  • Mizzou football has struggled to put out a star QB over the last few years, but this years QB room offers a lot of hope as they have 3 blue chip players on the roster. Today, I will go through all four options, who they are and who should win the starting QB job, enjoy!

    Who will win the QB job? How good will Mizzou be in 2023?
    I think Garcia wins the job and they need to win 7+ games for Eli to keep his job!

      I think that can happen 7-8 wins for Mizzou. Cook kinda looked good late last season. It should be a interesting QB battle for Mizzou.

    At worst, Mizzou gets a more experienced and healthier version of Cook. He doesn't have great arm talent, but his decision-making improved dramatically toward the end of last season, and his legs add another dimension to the offense.
    Garcia may be the guy most likely to start if it's not Cook. The biggest question with Garcia is whether he has enough scrambling ability. He isn't a statue, but he's also not the same athlete as Cook, or even Horn. If Garcia starts, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cook get on the field in short yardage and redzone packages. He's a very good runner, and he's a good enough passer that you don't have to run only Wildcat offense with him in there.
    Horn has the arm talent and quite a bit of athleticism. He certainly has a lot of potential. I do wonder sometimes how much of his success in high school came from having Travis Hunter to throw to.
    I like what I've seen from Gabarri Johnson on tape, but it's pretty rare for Mizzou to start a true freshman QB.
    The defense returns a lot from last season. Even with the loss of Lovett, there's a lot of talent in the receiving corps. If Mizzou can even get just solid QB play, that's probably enough for 7 or 8 wins against an easier schedule than they had last year, especially in the first half of the season. It's not out of the question for Mizzou to start 5-0. 4-1 is more likely, but Kansas State lost quite a bit of talent, and the game is at home this year.
    A lot of it comes down to how Kirby Moore's offense fits the team.

    What should be done with Drinkwitz if the Tigers go 6-6 and lose yet another bowl game? My lasting impression of Missouri coaching hires was scouring the nation for the right hoops coach to lead the team into the future, then they announced the hiring of Frank Haith, with a diet rice cake ACC record of 114-127! But he was head and shoulders above transparent earthworm Mike Anderson, a nice guy legacy hire who put together a record of something like 24-67 for the Tigers over three seasons. I can still remember my revulsion seeing Barry Odom being congratulated for being hired to replace Pinkel, the same players who had threatened to boycott games over alleged racism on campus. On the other hand, its patently clear that neither Mizzou's football or basketball pedigree in the past decade merits being on the radar of any rising gem of a coach, so maybe rolling the dice with unproven entities is the best the athletic program can hope for. The money to hire a proven national caliber coach has to come from attendance revenue, which isn't going to be forthcoming anytime soon with this perennial treadmill of .500 seasons in football, but at least the basketball team picked up one win in the tourney this season.

    • @doc8hopkins
      @doc8hopkins ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Anderson wasn't a legacy hire and he went 111-57.
      I think you meant "true son" Kim Anderson who was indeed the worst hire in the history of Mizzou.

    • @sportshistorybuff319
      @sportshistorybuff319 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!!! Now I remember Mike Anderson's issue was his nickname "suitcase" for always having one foot out the door, needing a new contract.

    • @doc8hopkins
      @doc8hopkins ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sportshistorybuff319 Yeah, they called him that, but that's just because most Mizzou fans are assholes.
      Not only was he not a Mizzou legacy, but he WAS a coaching legacy at Arkansas, where he was Nolan Richardson;s assistant coach for years and years, including their '94 NCAA championship team.
      Of coure he would go to Arkansas if given the oppotunity. "Suitcase" was some coping mechanism bullshit from an underservedly entitled fanbase (I'm a huge Mizzou fan fyi).

    • @sportshistorybuff319

    But everyone needs to stop and think about this really Cook for the most part, Cook did a great job for what he was dealing with and less no RB really our RB was not really good. Sure cook had some bad calls but how don't even pro players do. So he has done his part he can be much better than Horn. Yes, he may not have that deep throw as most do but he can still put it down 50 yards. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone talks about Lock Really what was so great about him I never was a great fan of him he threw more interceptions than any QB should ever throw and still be a starter.

    The so called QB competition, esp in the SD State game, is a sham. Horn gets just a handful of passes in the 2nd half, this was clearly not a fair fight. I don't agree with swapping QBs every series necessarily, but it would have been more fair to Horn to start the game this way. Cook has never impressed me enough to hand it to him so who knows what's going on. Play calling really always seems to be an issue with Drink, just see too much weirdness often. He seems to love Cook to death, but hard to see why. Drink can talk, he can recruit, yet it's still too early to tell if he can lead. Pinkel let his actions speak for himself more often, he could recruit, and he was a proven leader. Drink is no Pinkel and it's still hard to fathom where the success was that prompted such an early large contract extension. Still boggles the mind but let's hope it starts paying off on the field.

    The thing I wish people would understand football is just a game.. I mean we can definitely love the game for sure it can be a fun a game to watch.. But at the same time we shouldn't really get angry over losing games.. I mean it's just the fans get to toxic for me to enjoy the game.. what if we weren't a fan of any team and we just spectated.. that's kinda what I am doing.. take the toxic fans out of football and it's honestly a fun game.. I don't hate any team but I hate sports fans.. when I lose in football I don't make any excuses or cry that I lost because can I tell you why because it's just a game.. its just about giving your best effort if you give your best effort you might win, if not at least you gave it a good try you know... that seriously what football is all about its about giving your best football is a really difficult game to begin with..
