Sebastien, I do think that we deserve one now that is dedicated to the Temple of Hekate.....🤩

there's actually two triple goddesses in Greco-Roman mythology: Hecate and Diana. Hecate has rule over heaven, sea, and the underworld. Diana has rule over sky, earth, and underworld. What's interesting is that Diana was a triple goddess before conflated with Greek mythology. So the two originate independently of each other but ultimately became confused as one at times

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Hello and thank you very much for your message :)
If I'm not wrong, Diana, taken as the Roman equivalent of Artemis for the Greek mythology was incorporated quite later than Hecate for the Greeks around 600 BCE in the Roman mythology.
There are many meanings regarding the Moon in the Antiquity, and also the underworld and their deities through the ages.
Depending on the sources, we can find several meanings and origins ; quite fascinating :)
I like how this subject is discussed and debated ; I don't have historical intentions but like to be fairly accurate so I thank all the people who want to bring knowledge to the table.
I especially love #faryafaraji work on the subject. It's always delightful to listen to his pieces.
Have a nice day and stay safe ;)

Hi @SebastienAngel! This was great, but you made a misstep in your title. A more accurate title for Hecate is the Goddess of Magic and that's actually what she's more known for. She's only associated with the New Moon, not the entire lunar cycle itself and she's not actually a Moon Goddess. Selene is the actual Moon Goddess in Greek Mythology.

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +7

Hello and thank you very much for your very kind and accurate message :)
If I understand correctly from what I have read a long time ago and more recently to find out details about Hecate is that there are actually 3 Deities that are related to the moon. Hecate, Selene and Artemis. Maybe I'v have been too general with the title but I must admit it's a kind of easy way to embody one modern notion with one name for now. I also know Hecate has many symbols and functions associated to Her, and these functions had different means through the ages.
For the ancient Greeks, the goddess Hecate (she who shines from afar) embodied the different phases of the Moon. That's quite simple but I thought I'd stick to it for now.
But what I also knew and read again is that Selene, is the Titan Goddess and personification of the Moon which I will clearly put in my title when my tribute for Her is ready 😁
would love to know if other myhtology lovers will also tell me the same thing.
But anyway please, be sure I'll be as clear as possible and I will respect names, functions and titles as soon as I have a more complete "map" of the Goddesses, Gods, Titanesses, Titans and other great characters of this fascinating and so complex mythology.
Thank you very much for taking time to nicely note it and send it to me ;)
Have a great day and stay safe ☮

@she was more so associated with crossroads. She also, according to mythology, was gifted dominion over the heavens as well as the underworld by Zeus for siding with the Olympians in their war against the Titans.

Hecate is really the god of magic. She is only referred to be the goddess of the moon once, in Homer’s The Odyssey. Artemis would be the goddess of the moon. Sometimes gods have things that they are partial gods of, like Hades being the god of riches, even though there already is one.

    • @morgothsring2275
      @morgothsring2275 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@chicago2024_official You’ve got the wrong mythology. Janus was a Roman deity. Hekate is Greek and Anatolian. Both are associated with doorways, but Hekate is more closely associated with liminal spaces, like crossroads. I believe it was around the 1st century CE that she started becoming associated with magic, and by the 5th century, she was a full on Goddess of Magic. Btw, I have a degree in Anthropology and studied Greek Mythology at University. On top of that, I also practiced Hellenism for 8 years, and Hekate was my primary deity of worship. I know what I’m talking about here… Hope you have a good rest of your day.

Hello and thank you so very much for your kind words ! You are absolutely right about Hecate not only being a Goddess of the Moon in the GReek Triad along with Selene and Artemis, Selene being the personification of the Moon. But I will be back with other themes and titles to complete that more fairly ;)

Hi! This track is just really beautiful! I think Hecate might be one of the most mysterious deities. She is most known for being associated to the crossroads, magic and sorcery, and for being one of the goddesses of the moon, along with Selene and Artemis. She is also known for having three different faces (maiden, mother and crone), and she is linked to graves and the dead too. She helped Demeter in finding Persephone, and later she became her companion when she had to spend her time in the underworld. I believe the track fits her quite well, there's a lightness (I believe to symbolize the moon and magic) with a touch of mystery/darkness. I very much liked the voices in the beginning and the fact that you added two other faces in the last part of the video, a very nice touch in my opinion.
I hope you are doing well and I look forward to the next theme 😊

    •  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Gloria :D
It's always a pleasure to read your messages.
I already had 2 comments about Selene being the Goddess of the Moon and I still have to read more about it especially because the Moon herself had a specific meaning to ancient Greeks and their beliefs, and also for the Romans who appropriated Hecate (or Hekatê 😊) and the moon triad, Selene specifically becoming Luna, giving her first place in our late reading of mythology.
It seems like nowadays we see the Moon as one specific object, a satellite of the earth, but it should have had many other meanings in the Antiquity I suppose, with all it should have meant for the seasons, agriculture, astronomy, etc.
      Such a fascinating topic :)
I thought I could change my track's title but I've read somewhere it's really bad for SEO so I might keep a wrong title for Hecate 😅 (now you know my terrible secret plan).
I wish you all the best and hope you're doing great

Love your work and I follow this Greek Titan-Goddess💚
I'm disappointed that you're calling Her (Queen Hekatê) the Goddess of the Moon though.
As She (Queen Hekatê) is not such in the Greek pantheon / Paganism (Hellenism), that would be the Greek Titan-Goddess Selênê regarding the Moon in general (Her symbol & crown being a Crescent Moon) and the daughter of Lady Selênê; the Greek Goddess, Lady Pandia regarding the full Moon.

Hello and thank you very much for your message and for taking time to share your knowledge :)
I realize Hecate's functions as a Goddess are quite complex and I've read years ago and also recently about thz triad of the Moon for the ancient Greek beliefs and rituals and I know Selene is the Titan Goddess considered as the personification of the Moon when Hecate is associated to the New Moon. My knowledge in astronomy and history is quite limited and I only felt it was fair to call Hekate after one of the multiple characteristics for the antique Greek people.
But I think I'll try to find the more appropriate title when I work on Selene :)
Please, don't hesitate to tell me what you think about it.

@ thank you for talking your time to read my comment and for understanding where I'm Coming from💚
Queen Hekatê is indeed associated with the New Moon, every New Moon is called a Deipnon for Her and is a Holy day in Her name that is certainly True
Regarding the Triple Goddess Symbolism, this Symbolism is regarding Her Epithet Ennodia, Her of the Crossways and isn't to be taken literally as three Deities.
However this imagery and the Epithet Ennodia share (probably) common origin because of the pre-Greek Thessalian Goddess Ennodia which the Epithet name was derived for and later used for Queen Hekatê
I personally see no issue using the Name & imagery of the Goddess Ennodia for Queen Hekatê and even do thus myself next to following Goddess Ennodia💚
I hope you've a nice day and thank you again for listening!😊
And same to you, hope you've a beautiful rest of the week & stay safe too 💙

I don't know why you guys are so ignorant about the huge planes of Hellenistic and Anatolian combined Mythology and religious practices. This Goddess that was worshipped in huge Cults as in Anatolian Caria, Smyrna, Ephesus etc as Ourania and Soteira (Saviour) is only the Goddess of magic? Seriously?
She was also sycretised with Kybele Goddess. She got this title too. The womb of the Gods. As Ephesian Artemis was the queen of the Galaxy. Hecate and the others as one Saviour deity is (are) corresponding to Sagittarius A, Hydra, and Ophiuchus constellations. There's no triple Goddess. You just get confused bc Hecate replaced and absorbed the previous ones starting getting elements of monotheism.
Her xoanes and statues had 4 faces. In her sorcery role the faces were of 4 animals. I won't say who! Search artistic depictions! Very few statues survived and she looks there more like Liberty statue with Sun rays on her head and torches. But there are paintings and texts that gives us her 4 headed form also. Even Hesiod mentioned that she had absolute dominion in infernal worlds (as internal fire and regenerator) in our realm as nourishing all Life and in Celestial realms are Ourania Fire. She the daughter of Perses.
Her father's name link us to her Middle Eastern Iranian roots also. She is the Goddess of the Morning Sun as Anahita was the feminine side of Mithra. She, very early was in connection to the Sun ressurection god of eternal happiness, bliss and love/s*x, Dionisos. Her children sorceresses Medea and Circe were priestesses and daughters of Helios (Sun). Another connection to Sun again. These demigod women (Medea was a historical person) were about to give judgement and expose the real rotten side inside of men with their temptations in order for them to get cleansed, to understand their addictions and correct their wrongs or get punished bc of their male cruelty. All the evil magic stuff stories were created by democratic Greeks bc they had hate for certain free women tribes. That's also why they had woman in low position in society in addition for example to ancient Persia and earlier in the Inanna's female ferocious army that they had almost top roles.
The things you write is basic and from only one source or google. Not a Study. Greek history ddnt stop in the classical Era you are reffering to. It survived till late antiquity with the Hellenictic Era. A huge advancement in philosophy, mathematics, medicinal science and science of automatisms like AntiKythera mechanicms. All the western world we live today exists bc they created the foundations. The Greeks. In Anatolia these Goddesses Kybele, Ephesian Artemis and Hecate were worshiped as Soter, Saviour long before other male "Christs" replace them. Yes, all people around the world went to this cult festivals. Magic was only an aspect among many. But even in the classical period you are reffering to, Hecate was mentioned less bc she was a secret symbol in the Eleusinian Mysteries with important role only for the initiated. Peace. From Hellas🐦‍🔥🔥🌞🌕

Hello. I've just read your message. I must say it doesn't start very well.
The first thing one should always do when writing to other people is being polite. You seem to know more than me (which is fortunate because I am only an ignorant musician) and, as you seem to mention, more than anyone here. Please, note this is not an History channel, just a music channel. Of course, you are very welcome to share your knowledge, but I must tell you this :
A good thing to do is share your knowledge for sure. But to do so, there are two things you might want to do to avoid being too patronizing and just make people react in a bad way to your message.
So to begin wth, I'd rather read something like "I would like to correct some errors" or even "you got it wrong about Hecate's origins and meaning".
Then, some references would be much appreciated ; I only ask to know more about the Goddesses and Gods' origins, but I am not going to take the things you write for granted just because you write them : I am sure you know what I mean.
Knowledge is one of the most precious things we share as humans ; we can do it we can do it both intelligently and cordially.
Have a beautiful day and stay safe ;)
