Matsuyama is a genius. There is no doubt about it. Her creativity is limitless. But, Shida has improved tremendously since December last year especially in her skills at the front of the court. It seems to me that is making a big difference to this pair.

This Japanese pair is versatile, balanced and strong across all aspects: fortress-like defence, effective placements in attack, winning at back-court, mid-court or front-court. They won a lot of points in flat exchanges mid court. Shida used to play in mixed double discipline, pairing up with Watanabe... I'm not surprised by their meteoric rise in ranking and clinching the All-England title. One thing to give credits to the JP coaching team is their excellent work and risk taking. This pair was split up last year due to Shinda's injury. Matsuyama was paired up with more successful seniors in battles at the Surdiman Cup. They definitely benefited a lot from that experience and have understood their strengths and gameplay a lot better after playing with others.
They weren't split up last year, Shida was injured during the Sudirman cup and only Matsuyama from the pair was matched with other senior players (Matsumoto and Matsutomo for Uber cup).
People can say what they want, but why dont you look at the match. I been saying shida needs to up her game to match Mastuyama's game and they will be great. Shida did that + some. That is why they crushed Kim and Kong. And that is not easy to do. And this pair is pretty good too. Not as good as Kim and Kong but pretty good. Mastuyama has been the one taking the load while Shida was playing bad. She was hitting soft and not attacking. Look at what Shida has done in this tourney. She played better then Mastuyama. Now they will be one off the best in the world as long as Shida keeps playing strong. Matsuyama will always play great, as lomg as Shida keeps playing strong they will be one off the best teams in the world
They played at the German Open in the finals on Sunday. Chen also wasn't in her best form last week and then both Chen and Jia were tired on Wednesday after the finals (almost 2 hours of play with the second game at 29:30!) At the same time, the Japanese and Korean players almost all dropped out early last week. Maybe to rest for the All England. Just a guess.

Ya setuju. Tapi sebelum All england juga Matsu/Shida kalah dari pasangan korea yg ini. Mungkin emang performa korea yg lagi kurang bagus waktu lawan jepang

Gak juga. Ini Nami/shida memang yang permainannya sudah beda. Lebih agresif dan banyak nyerang dan kurang error.
