    Hi Ernie, another great video. Now I want to make some for myself. Some questions. Where can I get Bone Ash? Do these cupels need to be pre-fired before use with a prill? Can you make a video on how to make your own furnace? I have many more questions...

    • @ErnieDionne
      @ErnieDionne  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I got my Bone Ash online somewhere. It isn’t cost effective to make your own. I’m not going to Pre-Fire my Cupel. I’m just going to use it and see what happens. I left it out in the sun today and will use it later today when I get to my next project. I’m guessing there’s no need to pre-fire the Cupel as it will be under fire when I use it. Yes, I have plans on making a larger furnace. I started purchasing the materials I need. Feel free to ask me your questions 🤗

      @@ErnieDionne If I make furnace, do I need a blower to increase the internal temp? Is there a special nozzle at the end of the propane inlet tube? Where would I find the Kale Wool? Can I stabilize the shape using Bailing wire or? Would I need to pre-flux my crucible? Do you purchase flux or make up your own recipe? So many questions... Thanks for your patience. Cheers!

      @@grantlucas2012 Hi Grant, yes, Amazon sells a propane hose with a regulator and a high pressure cast iron burner head where you can regulate the air flow. This can be used for a medium sized furnace. You can also purchase a 2 inch thickness Kaowool ceramic fiber insulation blanket from Amazon. I use baling wire to hold it together. When I build my large #12 size furnace it’ll be made completely different. Presently I’m using a #5 size furnace I purchased on Amazon. I use a small furnace I made to cupel my lead pills.

      @@grantlucas2012 You don’t need to pre-flux your crucible. The basic flux ingredients I used for each burn is normally the same: whatever the weight of my concentrate (let’s say it’s 50 grams) I will use, 50 grams Borax, 50 grams Soda Ash, 50 grams Chapmans Flux, 20 grams Potassium Nitrate, 20-25 grams Litharge with flour, (sometimes I add 20 grams of Silica if there is no sand in my concentrate) 1-2 pieces of rebar. During the burn, if I see that the melted flux is thick, I will add in some Chapmans Thinner, I just guess how much to add in. When pouring this into your Cone Mold you should wear a respirator (I hold my breath and don’t breath.
      Next week I’m going to start using Manganese Dioxide to replace the Chapmans Flux.
      The ingredients for Chapmans Flux is: 40% Manganese Dioxide, 20% Borax, 20% Soda Ash, 20% Silica.
      So I will just add more Borax, Soda Ash and Silva to my flux.
      These days I purchase my flux’s and cupels at Legends Mining Supply in Sparks, Nevada. It’s about 50 minutes from where I live. I buy it in bulk, it’s very cost effective for me to purchase it that way and it lasts a while. You can check them out at

    Did they dry ok? Any idea how to dry them faster?

    • @ErnieDionne
      @ErnieDionne  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi, yes, they dried good after a couple of days. You can dry them faster by baking them in the oven. Overall it’s not cost effective to DIY. They are much cheaper buying both Bone Ash and Mabor cupels in bulk. I just purchased 728 #5 cupels from Legends Inc for $86.10. Each #5 cupels will absorb 19.8 grams of lead. I hope this helps.

      @@jimbob6063able That’s interesting. It may have been too dry when you made them? Mine were wetter than I wanted, but they dried fine and worked well.
