  • ACT and NSW farmers visit "Allendale" near Boorowa NSW.
David Marsh a now cattle farmer from Boorowa started his farming journey when he purchased "Allendale" a 815ha property in 1966. Like most proud graziers David managed the farm with the standard conventional approach, having a largely economic relationship with the land and applying all the latest agronomy technics to lift yields. However in 1999, David stopped cropping and spending lots of money on fertiliser, chemicals and machinery. He sold his sheep and bought cattle and focused more on the landscape than the livestock. By changing his grazing and landscape management practises to regenerative "Allendale" is now far more resilient to the increasing climate variabilities. Native grass species are naturally establishing, no herbicides or fertilisers have been used since 1999, Soil Organic Carbon levels are increasing, leading to higher water holding capacity of soils and importantly the property is remaining profitable.
This short video is an example of the importance of farmers learning from farmers, something David Marsh has been very generous with over the many years of being an advocate and mentor of Regenerative Farming.
This event was Supported by the ACT Government with funding from the Australian Governments Future Drought Fund - Farm Business Resilience Program.
