    Hy Michael, you're a fantastic teacher. I understood every word & Camtasia tool & technique you taught in this video. Admirable. Most teachers don't understand their students learning processes. Generally, their presentations are good. Their knowledge is good. But many a time, there is difficulty figuring out some of the things that they teach in terms of articulation, slang, or speed. Easy to learn from your videos. I am an audio & video producer from Singapore. I am into producing e-Learning courses. I understood every word you said. Thank you very, much Michael. Camtasia should employ you to teach educators to learn how to speak in their e-Learning programs. Applaud you. Thanks again

    Your video on Camtasia is extremely thorough from beginning to end and very informative without the price of having to subscribe to a teaching website, although it would be very cost effective if you did charge. The lessons about Interactive hot-spots and the interactive quiz ability of the the software supplied every answer i had about those features. I can now move forward to creating my videos. I did subscribe and sign up for the emails for extra free information . I wish all my teachers had been this thorough during my secular education. Thanks!

    Hi Michael, thank you so much. I've been really enjoying your videos. A quick question if you don't mind. Once I've exported the file and play it on a LMS, I can only see the quiz the first time I play it. If i replay the video, the quiz doesn't appear. I need to refresh the LMS for it to load again. Is there a setting that I could use to allow the quiz to appear even if i hit replay? I am using the Mac version of Camtasia btw. Thank you so much.

    In case anyone is interested, I have already researched using Udemy to host these kinds of interactive lessons. But that is a total no-go. Udemy only allows plain videos to be hosted. You can put a quiz at the end of each lecture but all it can do is just tell the student if they were correct. I asked, and you cannot even have answers link people to different videos, explaining why they were right or wrong. You can only have one link for the entire question that leads to a video about what this question covers. So, you couldn't even build an interactive lesson in Camtasia and then break that up into segments to replicate the same functionality in Udemy.

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      None of the video/course hosting sites natively support the additional code required to make Camtasia interactive lessons work, except for Thinkific. They support interactive content (Camtasia, Captivate, Storyline) on their paid Business plan. Another option is to host the Camtasia files on a server (Amazon S3, pCloud) and then embed the interactive lesson in your Udemy course using an . Not sure if Udemy allows embeds. I believe Teachable and Thinkific do.

    Hi Michael. I want to create a language course to make available on Teachable or Udemy. So far I've created a few slides in Powerpoint but I want to be able to include interactive grammar and vocabulary tests at the end of each lesson. Is Powerpoint able to do that or should I use Camtasia or something else? I'm probably not going to include screenshots or use my webcam. I will only use slides.
    And which microphone would be best for the project? My budget is about $200.

    hi Micheal, thank you for the video, can you please explain what is the difference between "Add Quiz to Timeline" and "add Quiz to Selected Media". Thank you

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Adding Quiz to Timeline" means your quiz is locked to the point or timecode on the timeline. Works fine, but if you change your mind and start re-arranging clips on your timeline, your quizzes may be out of sync with where you want them to appear. "Add Quiz to Selected Media" sticks your quiz to a piece of media, so if you change things around in your timeline, the quiz will travel with the media clip its pinned to and stay in sync.

  • @scottashby6745

    How exactly do you get back to the quiz after you have been branched off to a remedial clip? Am I missing something here? This is no little matter. This is a deal-breaker TechSmith. I assume my learners have to wade back through the entire video until they get back to the quiz that sent them on this journey. Only to be sent off again should they miss the next question too. Talk about CBT jail!!! Does anybody have a solution here? I'm all ears.

    I have set the interactive video to jump on a particular marker.

    Can you identify what the problem could be?

  • @andrewratner572
    @andrewratner572 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Michael,
    Thanks for the great tutorial. One of the great features of Camtasia that I also found is the "hotspot" feature. What I love about that feature is that you can also make a quiz function with that, let's say for a software training. A limitation I see with this, however, is that you can't link any of the data analytics functions with that kind of interactivity. So I was wondering: do you have experience with combining the quiz and hotspot features in such a way that 1) software training would mimic real-time usage, and 2) you can have the ability to gather data? I'd love to see the possibilities. All the best!

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the time and effort on your comment, Andrew. Sounds like you're talking about using Camtasia for software simulation. I've never done that. Not to say it isn't possible, but it I think it would take a lot of manual effort, depending on how "real-time" you want it to be. If you only have a few hotspots (choices) it might be manageable. There is software specifically for creating software simulations. Adobe Captivate is one of the most popular. To gather data (I assume you're talking about tracking for a learning management system, or to email results) you could connect your hotspot to a quiz. Remember, a quiz is just a location on the timeline or a media clip. So, when the user clicks the hotspot, you set it to jump to the spot on the timeline or media clip containing the quiz. You would need to modify the quiz settings, so they work with your instructional goals. And it would take a lot of organization (as most good interactivity does).

    Hi Michael,
    Yet another great tutorial. Will Camtasia interactivity work with courses on Teachable?

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      To use Camtasia interactivity on Teachable you would have to export and host the interactive Camtasia project (it's basically a mini-website) on a web server. Then you would use an (html code) to embed your interactive Camtasia project on a page in your Teachable course, if they allow that. You may want to check with Teachable's tech support.

  • @betteranimation3999

    Hi Michael, I am not sure if this is the best platform to be asking this question but here goes. Could I use the interactive features on the social media networks?
    Beat regards, Paul

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question! Videos using Camtasia's interactive features (quizzing, hotspots) need to be hosted on a web sever to work. There's a bunch of javascript code that needs to run to make the interactivity work. Social media platforms, to my knowledge, can't support that code. What you could do is host your interactive video on Amazon S3, screencast.com, or your own web server, then link to that from your social media platform.

I am wondering if this quiz can be placed onto my website and if people that want to participate must give their e-mails . In the end, Camtasia just produces what would be treated just like any other page on your website (although way more complicated of a page than just a plain HTML file). So, any web site design that controls who can go to what pages (for instance with a login) can then control who can view each of your learning videos. But that's all I know so far. I do not know which software you can install on a web server to do this kind of thing. Personally, I am looking into Drupal, but I don' t know enough about it yet.

    Is Camtasia in the same class as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere? Pricewise they are close. In what niche does Camtasia fit? It appears aimed more at e-training editing and presentations. I'm confused.

    • @MacVideoMagic
      @MacVideoMagic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wouldn't put in the same class with FCPX or Premiere Pro. Camtasia's primary focus is screen recording, then editing those recordings using text, callouts, annotations, animations. Editing camera video is not its strength. You can do basic editing, but in my experience it can have issues with camera files (laggy). I have used Camtasia to create course content involving images, voice-over, text and animation, with a few video clips thrown in. Worked pretty well. And you can use it to create interactive videos, involving quizzes and clickable buttons (hotspots). That's pretty unique. But I wouldn't cut a film on it. 🙂

      From what I can tell, each quiz in your video is treated as an independent entity. Users can see the results of each separate quiz, but not a results summary of all the quizzes in the video at the end.
      Only the quiz creator can see a summary of all the quiz results in a video, and that's only possible through Techsmith's Quiz Reporting Service. You set that up through the Quiz Reporting Options in the Production Wizard.
      It may be worth asking Techsmith to put in a "View Cumulative Quiz Results..." feature into the next version of Camtasia.

Hope this helps: support.techsmith.com/hc/en-us/articles/227104508-The-TechSmith-SmartPlayer

      Ah thanks. It says that these mobile devices will require a free app in order to become interactive. Darn, that's a barrier I'm not willing to accept at this point. However, you are working on a few ideas and perhaps you'll inspire me!

      Yeah, not a fan of having to download an additional app to use interactivity on iOS. I guess that's how you keep the experience consistent for all users.
