    Just started learning Camtasia and was initially sad because it had no interactivity opportunities but BOY I WAS WRONG! Thanks so much for opening up this entirely new way of using it!

      Hey Cameron! Yes, this hotspot feature is kind of hidden away under visual effects. I'm so glad this tutorial was helpful! Please let me know if you have any questions! 😀

    Really appreciate your videos. They have helped me out more so than others. In the spirit of helping, I wanted make a suggestion for your voice overs. You might want to consider downloading Audacity and using the noise reduction feature to remove all the spittle and smacking from your voice overs. It will make it much easier to listen to. Thanks for the help.

    I'm attempting to create a simulator in Camtasia. Each slide has multiple hotspots set up so I can jump around (back and forth) with ease. However, I seem to missing a step, maybe in publishing? When I publish as a Smart Player MP4 it is playing the video all the way through without stopping at the markers. (We don't have a Screencast account anymore). If I view the HTML file it works great, just not the MP4

Also, I have a separate video about using Google cloud console to upload and share your files th-cam.com/video/74VQd6YNTXI/w-d-xo.html

    Am I right in saytong that Articulate 360 Storyline can do everyuting Camtasia can and if I'm wrong, can you simpley import camtasia interactive videos into storyline as an ?

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brendan - thanks for the great question! Articulate Storyline 360 is better for adding interactive elements, tracking scores, and handling more complex logic. Whereas Camtasia is primarily a screen recorder/video editor, with some basic interactive functionality (hotspots). That's why I use Storyline 360 for most of my interactive videos, although some people prefer Camtasia because it's a less expensive tool 😀

    Very good video! Instead of Techsmith Screencast, can we not export the video as SCORM? As there is the SCORM export option at the end in Camtasia, I wonder what´s the difference and outcome.

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much, Bertalan! The SCORM option only applies to videos where you've included a Quiz or Survey (Found under the "Interactivity" tab on the left). Since the method I described in this tutorial only uses hotspots, a SCORM package won't be produced. Here's a video to explain further: th-cam.com/video/o-WuTqdiCgw/w-d-xo.html

    Great video - thanks. You say the interactive video can be uploaded to TechSmith Screencast. Will it also work with Techsmith Knowmia?

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much, Malcom! That's a great question - I'm not using Knowmia myself, but I did find this article that makes it sound like interactive hotspots will work with Knowmia Pro. www.techsmith.com/blog/make-course-videos-interactive-and-accessible/ If you get the chance to test it out, please let me know if it works!

    I have a question. I know that uploading the interactive videos on youtube are a no go, but do they work with just a basic upload? I guess my question is, will the raw video have the interactive click? Or do I have to look for a platform or a code that makes it interactive?

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you upload an interactive video to TH-cam, you might see the buttons, but they won't be clickable (so it will play as a linear video). You might try exporting your Camtasia file to to Techsmith Screencast Pro (currently costs $99 per year, max of 250 videos). Then you can generate a link and embed that into your website or a course creation platform. The free version of screencast works too, but only keeps the videos for 12 months.
      Here's a free option that requires a bit more work. First you export with Techsmith Smartplayer as described here th-cam.com/video/zXvn53y5mpo/w-d-xo.html then upload to Google Cloud console as described here th-cam.com/video/74VQd6YNTXI/w-d-xo.html.
      Sorry if this seems a bit complicated. Techsmith Camtasia is relatively inexpensive, so the export methods aren't quite as smooth as I would like :) Techsmith has something called Knowmia, but I believe they will discontinue it soon. For perspective, in my freelance business I use Articulate Storyline to add interactivity to my videos, upload them to Google Cloud Console, then embed the links in my website and online course platform (I use Thinkific as my course sales platform try.thinkific.com/kimberlygoh5275)
      Hope that helps!

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much @Parag Gawade! I usually end my videos with a call to action screen. They could either play again (which takes them back to the start) or they can jump to an external website, sales landing page, additional training video etc.

    But if a video is made like this....what is the final output format.....it gives a standalone video file like a normal mp4 and that will play in any computer or mobile irrespective of the player ?

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To get the interactive hotspots to work, you'll need to output it to Screencast (timestamp 7:20) or take a look at this video for another option th-cam.com/video/zXvn53y5mpo/w-d-xo.html

    Hey Kimberly. I'm playing with this feature and have the interactive hotspots working as they should, however, the play button in the smartplayer can be clicked, essentially by-passing the buttons. Do you know if there is a way to look the play button or hide the navigation bar until the user clicks one of the interactive hotspots?

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question, Stephanie! I tried it myself and I see what you mean. I don't know if there is a way to hide the navigation bar or play button, but you could contact TechSmith support and ask them if they have a solution. I've found that Storyline 360 has more features for preventing people from moving forward until they've made a selection (you can actually hide the player completely and control everything with buttons you create yourself).

    • @StephanieHarnett-slhice
      @StephanieHarnett-slhice 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KimberlyGoh Thanks for that info. I'll check with Techsmith support but I'm thinking only the quizzing option prevents forward movement which is a bummer because the interactive hotspots allows for visual creativity. I'm an Articulate MVP but in this case, the client wants to use only Camtasia. : )

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StephanieHarnett-slhice Yes I'm a pretty big Articulate fan too but you've got to keep your client happy ;) I hope your conversation with TechSmith goes well. It seems like they could do a lot with HotSpots if they are willing to extend the functionality. Good luck and let me know how it goes!

    I teach languages. I am looking for some interactive videos where the students will respond verbally and their voices will get recorded. So, basically, instead of just adding comments to the screen, in writing, I am looking for something where, while playing my video they will be able to record their answers. Is there such a thing?

    • @KimberlyGoh
      @KimberlyGoh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a great question, Patricia! Have you tried Edpuzzle? It looks like they have a function where students can respond with audio Here's one help article: support.edpuzzle.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406796811789-Can-students-respond-to-questions-with-audio- And here's some info for the student: support.edpuzzle.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406796825357-How-do-I-record-an-audio-response- Hope that helps! 😀

      @KimberlyGoh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      PS - I believe Edpuzzle allows you to add quiz questions as the video progresses, but I don't know if it supports "true branching" to other places in the video based on the student's answers. But you can check the Edpuzzle website to find out more details.

      @@patriciajorgensen4728Sure, you just have to make it an open ended question for audio responses to be allowed. Here's a feature announcement (if you need help, they've included a support link under the video, or maybe you can contact them to ask? :) th-cam.com/video/c1Hjfa7JZtc/w-d-xo.html

      @@KimberlyGoh Thanks. It's hard building a portfolio when you can't afford most of the industry standard LMS programs and have to create something during the free trail. I've been teaching "mostly English" for nearly ten years now "college level" and just now shifting towards instructional design. I can't stand getting a job as an adjunct instructor and the curriculum is already built and you can't change anything. My education is a M.A in English Lit, so I'm teaching myself all the industry standards, Articulate, Absorb, Captivate.... Honestly I wish I could just stick to making videos, interactive PowerPoints and E-Learning video games and not bother with anything else.
