    Great video like always I would like to add if you use zip ties for any outside holding jobs use the black ones they are recommended for outside use and hold up better to the weather.

    I put new wiring on my 5×10 trailer, I drilled holes through the center of the angle under the trailer and put cold water pvc rear to front and run the wire through, should last a good long time

    I like the video and information but the only thing I would not do is use a wire nut on my vehicle's wiring. Wire nuts are suppose to be used with home wiring only not vehicle use do to it is not a complete weather resistant connection and can cause high resistance with corrosion or connection issues later down the road with the ground wire.

    • @KnettersPracticalOutdoors
      @KnettersPracticalOutdoors  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I hear what your saying and I'll explain my though process. Wire nuts are not only for home use. They are extensively used in heavy industry too. You are correct wire nuts by themselves are not a good water tight connection, but with some anti-oxidizing grease applied in the nut after connection and then taping them up, you do have a pretty long lasting connection. And this does allow for disconnection without cutting wires. Which I often do because plugs corrode or wires break.

    You didn't show at the end if your work actually lit up all the led's on the checker. In my case only one of the lights works on the checker, so do you still put in a new truck side plug? Or do something else? I checked all the fuses I could think of and they were good.

    Wire nuts are horrible to use in vehicle applications, they're for house wiring... solder and shrink tubing!

    • @KnettersPracticalOutdoors
      @KnettersPracticalOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One of the reasons I like wire nuts for this application is a lot of the time my plugs only last a few years and then I'm changing them out again. If it's something more permanent, soldering is great. But my plugs wear out long before the wire nut connection. Especially when adding the grease and tape.

    It initially worked but then after flicked once. What is the issue. If someone could help.. A mechanic asked if the signal and brake were the same light they are not.
    So mechanic said that he believes that is the reason. IDK anyone know why?

    Ok, I am a 74 year old female, just bought a pop up camper, I have watched your videos, unless a missed something, I didn’t find my problem, so here it is. When we hooked up my car to the trailer all the running lights came on blinkers and brake lights lights didn’t, the guy said that the trailer lights were working the last time he used it, I am more inclined to think that it is from my car it was pulling a travel trailer but hasn’t been used for five years as far as plugging something into it and it does have a seven point hook up I just ordered a multi meter because I don’t have one I did check my fuses under the hood, none are blown, I will check the bulbs tomorrow and also check the wiring under the car, If you have any other suggestions please let me know I appreciate it thank you very much

    Dave,
    I have a 97 suburban, very very similar setup. I've tracked my issue to being inside the truck, where you connect the T-Harness. My 4 pin is getting power to the brake and turn signals but not the 3rd pin down just before the ground pin, the trailer lights. I also have a dual 7 4pin-7pin flat and the 7 pin receives no power. Do you happen to know the term for this part if the electrical system? I'm trying to hunt a blown fuse. Should I take it to the mechanic?

    • @KnettersPracticalOutdoors
      @KnettersPracticalOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok so it sounds like you don't have the running lights. Do they work on the suburban? If they do you probably don't have a blow fuse (unless your sub has separate fused trailer lights). If you don't need that 7 pin harness I would remove it. Also try a new T harness. Maybe corrosion or a wire break inside of it. Let me know how it turns out, KPO

    Why do people put a video of something completely different in the beginning like you did just to post a video ??!
