    What a nice bloke. I've changed my engine oil many times on my old Mondeo mk3 and this chap covered every point of importance. Excellent.

    underneath oil filter in the middle you have 8mm socket for allen key. This is for drain oil from filter first to avoild splash everything around as you can see on this video.

    Cheers mate! Picking up a used Mondeo in the morning after wrecking my car last week and first thing I wanted to to was change oil and filters and brakes. Thanks to this I can jack the car up the second I get home with all tools at the ready :)

    Many thanks for bothering to upload this..I love it when people just explain and show exactly what they're doing and you do that perfectly....I'll be checking my Mk4 tomorrow to see if it's similar.

    My wifes mini cooper takes a low profile 36mm socket. I picked one up off ebay for not too much. Makes the job a lot simpler.
    Well done,
    Jay

    Sir nice video, I have the same car TDDI engine and I will do myself next service. As a constructive critic you should have showed to replace the washer of the Carter screw, which must done every oil change. Eventhough thanks a lot for your time and videos, I am learning a lot to service my Mondeo in Spain from you. Cheers and keep up!

    cheers, it gives us all a good look at where things are on this engine. might be worth getting the right sized socket for the filter (they really arent expensive) instead of using monkey and chain wrenches on a plastic cannister; this will limit the chance of serious damage when changing the element inside.

    La primera vez que cambie el aceite y el filtro a mi ford Mondeo MK3 rompí el tapón del filtro por usar una llave inglesa (ya que el tapón es de plástico y iba muy duro). Recomiendo el uso de un vaso de 36 ya que la fuerza se realiza por igual en todas las caras de la tuerca. No recomendaría intentar el uso de llave inglesa o cualquier llave tipo Stilson ya que solo ejerce fuerza en dos caras de la tuerca.

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sí, eso es correcto, especialmente con una tuerca de plástico.

    Word of warning, the oil filter housing isn't supposed to be much more than hand tight....tighten by hand and use a correct socket just to nip it a little tighter; the rubber seal will do the rest. You certainly don't want to use a chain tool or any excessive torque on it. It's only made of plastic, after all.

    Ahh, the joys of getting hot, dirty engine oil all over your hands - it's happened to me so many times! Good call about wearing gloves though, Martin - some nasty chemicals in that old oil.

    I'm too lazy for an oil change. Then you have to recycle that used oil and filter. Jacking the car, jack stands, crawling around on the cold ground. My knees are bad enough. Ya, I know, your showing how to do it. Say hi to everyone there.

    • @retrorestore
      @retrorestore  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brian Percival I didn't want to do it either Bri lol but it's not been done and you never know when the previous owner did it.

      You know that sticker they put in the window "Next oil change '64,560' (5000kms later) my car never gets to it, a year later and it's fall again, change it before winter.
