i love how you form ur content into something so seamless, watching like 10 minutes of ur stuff feels like fricking 2. its like anime but youtube. keep up the great stuff. watching ur content has gave me so much knowledge on editing and youtube. id really like to talk to you and hear it from ur prospective and ur opinions on some stuff.
This helps a lot. I'm still nearer a beginner trying to add more b-roll to my edits ... it helps a lot to see where I need to eventually try to get (enhancing the b-roll further with sound and visual effects). It's not that I didn't already know that - but seeing the difference helps drive the point home.
Hey Brian, I’m working on making a channel for beginner editors. Is there something in particular you struggled with? Or something you want to learn still?
Bro your work always amazes me! Just tried working on a vlog based off of everything I’ve picked up from your videos and it feels it still is missing something! But it’s a start will drop it can keep learning from you. Man keep up the great work, I’ll keep watching!!
THIS IS SO IMPRESSIVE! I’m definitely going to take inspiration for my upcoming TH-cam video. I am really starting to love editing as more of an art form instead of just busy work like you said! Thanks!
Having worked with many high profile channels, the moment a TH-camr starts seeing editing as art and not busy-work is always the biggest game changer to their content. It is a little known "TH-cam hack" I am trying to get more people aware of. The fact you are becoming aware of this early on will have a huge return on investment! Happy editing!
@@HillierSmith Thanks so much, Hayden! You're a huge inspiration for me, and I'm looking forward to popping up on your home page once I nail down my niche and content!
Dude, what an incredible video! I am in awe at how you made that commercial without ever turning on a camera. Gets me excited to step up my editing game!
Video editing is definitely art! To be able to story tell is really what makes some of these youtubers so successful! I just found you and have watched almost all your videos! Thank you for breaking it down so well for all of us and excelling in your craft! Hoping to learn more from you!
man, I gotta say you keep giving and giving, and the passion and purpose in your videos has a fire that give people like me hope. thank you for this video, feeling inspired by your passion and can't wait for more and more, thanks for being there always, and explaining it to me like I'm 5 years old. much love from vancouver canada brother!! Hayden, your editing breakdowns have been a huge help with starting my channel. Thanks a lot and keep’em coming! Would love to see you commenting over a typical talking head channel’s video (Graham Stephan, Ali Abdaal…) Looking forward to your next video!!
Random question, for editing vlogs. Do you think having any music track under A-Roll/Talking moments takes away from the video? Should music only be used under B-Roll sequences?
An entire video about music is coming in the very near future... 😉 But the short answer is music needs to reflect the action of the video. In the first ten seconds of this video, for example, I have electronic, bright music playing. When I say "$1,000,000" the music cuts out to highlight it...then the beat drops and the tempo picks up to show that having a $1,000,000 budget is exciting and that your mind races with possibilities. Then the music cuts out again when I reveal that it's only a $500 budget...So in the first 30 seconds, we've had about 4 music changes all to reflect the action of the video...TLDR: music should "yes and" the story.
I don't know if its too late to answer this question but audio (not necessarily music) can make what you saw have that power and flow it to the next scene. Love this specially for the intros. Bring music in and out to highlight what you want to convey
Did Hayden forget to include his own time in the budget? I think that this just proves the point about what’s wrong with the whole Artists dilemma. Yes, everybody consumes art, but it’s usually the middlemen, the platforms - not the artists getting rewarded.
What a fucking creative video!!! You always surprise with you creative mind. I would've loved it more if you had showed the music part as well. That music track fits perfectly. I wanna know your mind behind it ❤️
Great pacing. Being a video editor myself it takes me out of it when I recognize commonly used stock footage I’ve seen or used before but for the average viewer it looks all new and highly produced.
I have had so many thoughts about her new vlogging style! I won't shut up to my friends about it. She's really doing something different and it's working so well for her! A video about it is definitely in the works...
Your videos are both amazing and disapointing. I was looking foward to learn about video editing, youtuber stuff and etc. Your videos were amazing. At the same time, I saw how much effort you've put into it and I noticed that I could never be this good, nor I would ever dedicate as much time and effort as you. So I am kinda disapointed at myself and because I can clearly see that the internet is ruthless and required more and more quality for not so great returns
Man ...Hayden this is amazing. I am so confused about how to structure my videos and have this perfect flow but you make it look so easy. Plus this video gave me a lesson on how I also should plan my videos...Perfectly presented video..I think imma get back into editing...cuz this was just so motivational and so so good!!!
@@HillierSmith I found out that it never sounds the same whether is listen with my headset, AirPods, or speaker Maybe I should stop editing with a headset
the only annoying part with the ad is that the audio keeps peaking and that the voice isnt mixed into it well. Like just some compression and slight EQing will change that drastically
So glad someone else noticed this. I'm reading all the "brilliant" comments thinking, uh, but wait a minute now...haha. Grateful for the content all the same.
You may have only spent $500 in “raw materials” but your expertise, skill, experience, talent as a storyteller and artist is what makes that video worth A LOT more. I mean, how do you charge the client for your “Be An Artist” idea and the design of the video? If it only took you an hour to come up with it, does that mean you only charge your $125 hourly rate? No way! Plus, you should charge clients based on the value of the results your work gets, not the time and materials that went into making it. You’re not a commodity, Hillier! You’re an artist who can help clients solve problems and achieve their goals. That’s worth so much more than $500. 😎🤑 Kinda wish this vid was about how you can charge $5k, $10k, $50k for a big time commercial but only spend $500 to do it. Seriously awesome work, though. Especially with those neon animations. 🙌🏻🤘🏻
I loved this video Hayden, thank you ! It was really inspiring and made me want to edit a commercial haha. And the editing of the video itself, not only your ad, is as always excellent, especially when you use it to emphasize comedic effect.
