    The representation of the “proactive” part of the monster comes from the attrition damage. It represents the monster hitting you back and forth during your activation. That’s the reason why you need to play parry and evasive cards in order to avoid that damage. Also, there are already some behavior in monsters that will make the monster take the initiative as well.

    I already played It , im halfway in a campaign and i have to say that dragons you face really felt like a threat , we have lost four times killing 7 dragons and many of them deal More damage by the beheavior than the atrittion deck , thats the amazing thing in the game , every monster Is so different

    Hey. Thank you for this great video.
    Now that late the pledge for this opened, and the late pledges for Aeon Trespass: Odyssey closes soon, I was wondering which of those would be your recommendation for mainly solo with occasional 2P would be. I know AT:O is more story and KDM-like gameplay, where this is more quick, one shot (or the campaign that hasn't been revealed too much yet) sessions.
    I just have a massive craving for boss battlers with crafting and upgrades and stuff that I can sit and enjoy for hours on end.
    Which of those two would you recommend, and why?

    • @WaitYourTurn
      @WaitYourTurn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're very welcome. Good question!
      I'm very biased because I backed ATO and didn't back Primal but I'll give you my reasonings for both.
      Primal shines as a multiplayer experience due to the incredibly rich cardplay system. As a solo player, you need to control at least two hunters but the game feels a lot more manageable with another player. The amount of choices inherent in the card system makes controlling 3+ hunters difficult as a solo player in my opinion. On the other hand, you typically control four titans similtaneously in ATO but the individual action system is simpler in comparison (move, attack, reactions). Although controlling four titans at once can be daunting, it's perfectly doable. Having another player will make it even better.
      For crafting reasons alone, ATO is probably a better choice although I'm not as familiar with Primal's crafting system. ATO borrows a lot of loveable elements from KDM such as slashing resources and gear off a monster in the middle of combat that I didn't see in Primal.
      Lastly, combat itself will be longer in ATO. Positioning is incredibly important and the grid is king whereas Primal uses a simplified system to allow for a compact session of play. If you have the time, ATO will give you much more play time in terms of variant monster levels, a much better story/campaign, and deeper exploration.

    • @kobusbrits3523
      @kobusbrits3523 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WaitYourTurn Thanks for the detailed reply and sharing your thoughts!
      I think my main appeal to Primal is the quick play sessions, short setup and compact look the game has. I also like the monster miniatures which looks really good, and the card play and reaction system looks... addictive? But I do get what you're saying that controlling 4 hunters will probably be daunting amd fiddly, more so than controllinh 4 titans in ATO.
      I've watched Five of Clubs TTS playthtoughs of ATO recently and I love the epic Greek mythology theme and modernized titans. I'm also busy going through the updates now and all those transforming and evolving weapons and stuff looks so good. I think it will provide a much more epic adventure and more hours, although I'll probably play it more solo where my partner might be more keen for the shorter Primal sessions.
      Oh, when you mentioned the monster parts that can be dismembered and then used to craft a weapon or form a resource... that sounds so so good!
      Do you think ATO will work as a 90% solo game? I think once you know the primordials base rules, each next level shouldn't be too much as it is just adding an extra ability or two. Hopefully it's not too fiddly solo, and even though it's dice, there's enough ways in the full game to mitigate bad rolls.
      It's a difficult decision for me. ATO overall is more appealing, but Primal's short plays seems like a "nice to have" when time is restricted.
      Thanks again for your input! If I know for a fact game X will excel at solo and game Y not so much, it would be an easier choice :)

    • @kobusbrits3523
      @kobusbrits3523 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WaitYourTurn Sorry for the spam, but I have 2 follow up questions I've been thinking of. Firstly, expansions. Do you think ATO will be fine with just the base games? How essential will cycle 4 and 5 be? I'm thinking base game + titans + perhaps the thicker tiles. What's your opinion?
      Lastly, replayability. For ATO, do you think fighting the same premordian over and over (each time with a new ability, etc.) will become stale? And do you think the cycles will be replayable, like KDM is? How about replayability for Primal, did you feel like fighting the same monster multiple times?
      Thanks, and I won't bother again, promise :P

    • @WaitYourTurn
      @WaitYourTurn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I'm hearing, I think you'll enjoy either one (albeit in different ways). So you can't go wrong with your ultimate decision :)
      If anything, ATO is a bit of a gamble because of how expansive it is (tech trees, crafting, metroid-style exploration, narrative, showdowns, etc.). The level of commitment and the amount of time needed to complete each cycle will likely dissuade multiplayer play and encourage solo play. I intend to play ATO solo, and backed it with the hope it would be 100% soloable. I have some playthroughs of ATO here:
      [SEASON 1] Aeon Trespass: Odyssey | Print-n-Play th-cam.com/play/PL9R8R4KTgyYYMtMFYUvUsZVhE-xZf4m2r.html
      Overall, like KDM, ATO was easily soloable. Primal was mentally more difficult to solo. Good luck!!

    • @WaitYourTurn
      @WaitYourTurn  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha, no worries. Please ask as many questions as you want. I love talking about this stuff.
      1a. That's what I was thinking for your case, especially since you're torn between two games. Why not just get the core for both and add expansions later if you really like the experience?
      1b. It's hard to say how essential the 4th and 5th cycles are since most expansions are by definition non-essential. For example, the 5th cycle revisits themes of despair found in the first three cycles while the 4th cycle expands on the vantage point system with Hermes gear and airships. As cool as it sounds, there will be later opportunities to get these cycles if you really enjoy the core. So I'd stick with the core in your case.
      1c. A pledge of the base game + titans sounds good. Aesthetically I'm in love with the idea of thicker tiles but the added amount of storage space needed for them makes it impractical for me personally. They have images of their white box print of the cardboard tiles (it's big!).
      2a. Perhaps not stale per se... the power creep in ATO between primordial levels is incredibly gradual compared to the power spikes of KDM. On top of that, once you beat a level 1, you are forced to hunt the level 2 (or choose to hunt a different monster) in ATO. I think the combination of these two factors will reduce the grindy repetition that KDM suffers from by (1) smoothing out the power curve of monsters and (2) preventing the player from farming level 1/2 monsters forever.
      2b. Definitely replayable, but not in the same way KDM is. While KDM uses brutality and death to force replayability, ATO uses limited time and exploration to encourage replayability. In my opinion, if done well, ATO's worldbuilding will be expansive and interesting enough to be worth revisiting and rereading.
      2c. Unfortunately, perhaps because the prototype I played was so limited, I felt Primal's monsters were not worth revisiting. Their reactive system of monster AI wasn't as surprising or compelling as the the cardplay of the hunters. I wasn't a fan of how the monster only *responded* to your combos instead of actively trying to kill you -- in that sense it felt one-sided and less interesting compared to KDM's AI system. Also, Primal's monsters weren't challenging nor difficult (but perhaps that may change if/when they develop higher-level difficulty monsters i.e nightmare mode). For this reason, I felt the lack of monster replayability was compensated with metric TONS of monster expansions during their campaign.
      Anyways, those are my honest thoughts. Please feel free to ask more questions. Otherwise, have a nice day :)

      I haven't played Marvel Champions, but after a quick look at Marvel Champions Primal looks somehow even simpler. It has only 1 type of resource cost (stamina), fewer card types, and no side-objectives or schemes. From my experience, it was a good kind of simplicity. I hope that helps!
