I hate that Violet and Elastigirl have skirts when they never had them in the movies, that actually really bothers me about the Incredibles Halloween costume and the worst part about these skirts is that not only are they unnecessary but they don’t even look good they look really tacky
Oh yeah, I'm super-disappointed in Disney for deciding to stick skirts on their "official" Violet & Elastigirl costumes. They'd both look FINE and equally modest to the Dash and Mr. Incredible costumes without those, as you put it best, "tacky" skirts.
some people aren't comfortable wearing leotards so i get why they put it. still, it wouldn't kill them to have it be velcro-ed on so you could remove it if you wanted.
That's what I said when I saw it. They didn't have skirts, so why do the official costumes have skirts?

About the “sexy” Sanderson sisters, it’s actually genius because they are designed to be worn in the park during the Halloween party! A regular Sanderson dress would break the dress code because it’s too long!

@@omgubler yeah it’s partially a safety thing (long dresses could get caught in something) but also to differentiate adults in costume between cast members

It’s kinda sad that the decent Chewie costumes are the ones made by the hardcore fans for themselves. Like has anyone seen Adam Savage’s Chewbacka costume? Yeah, I’d guess it would cost 500$ to make at least but you can use this costume for its lifetime. That’s what’s disappointing about halloween costumes. They are expensive, uncomfortable (visually and physically) and last one evening before ripping into shreds
Yep, you nailed it. Homemade costumes are ALWAYS superior to store-bought ones. ALWAYS.
Thrifting is almost always the better choice.
For a Chewie costume, I’d probably go with a brown fake fur coat and brown sweatpants. And call it a day because I’m kinda lazy.

I dressed up as a box for Halloween. Got a big cardboard box, cut head and arm holes, best night of my life.

As someone who worked at a company that made some of these costumes, this hits on another level!

At least all of those costumes aren't just two pieces of felt fused together that cost 70+ bucks. That's essentially the entire stock at any given Spirit Halloween. I swear that's what most of the kid's costumes I've seen are.
Either that or crappy thin printed polyester. No, I make my daughters costumes.

@@Baldjotarokujo I can't really blame the store for the cheap nature of boxed/bagged pre-fab costumes. Most Halloween stores have some nice non-costume decorations.
I actually own The Mr. Incredible costume at the beginning of the vid. It’s not bad, I just wish it was all a one piece jumpsuit and not a two-piece (shirt and pants). I found the pants to be very baggy.
EDIT: I love most of these costumes Dan has shown. That first Buzz Lightyear costume would be PERFECT were it not for the “bell bottoms”

I may be nitpicking but is the Baymax costume in the parks "technically" an inflatable costume? Also as someone who currently owns an Oogie Boogie costume, I have to agree with you on the inflatable Oogie Boogie costume. That can make people uncomfortable instantly.
I once had a Luigi costume, it had this inflatable pad, not very comfortable

I wanted to be jack skellington this year but they were all so weird i decided to use the folkmanis jack skellington puppet (which is see you have) with black clothes and black mask. but it works because i LOVE puppets so i am very excited!

So, costume company insider information here.
Franchises and licenses for costumes periodically go up for auction. The biggest costume companies in North America are Rubies, Disguise, Leg Avenue and DreamGirl. There's Charades, Forum, California Costumes and a handful of other companies but they are too small to pay the big bucks for the licenses, you'll get look-alikes out of them ( Sometimes they are significantly better than the official costumes. If you want an example, look at the official Link costume by Disguise and the Elf Warrior look-alike by Charades. The quality of the Charades costume is excellent in comparison). ELOPE also has ties to Disney and they do good work but they only do accessories like hats.
For licensed Disney costumes, it's flip-flopped between Rubies and Disguise for years. Disguise and Rubies are some of the crappiest costume producers out there but because they are so big, they have the money to buy up all the licenses. Rubies and Disguise are infamous for their cheap fabrics, terrible construction and horrifically crappy fittings. Chances are excellent you will NOT get a good costume from them unless you're going to be purchasing from their prestige lines, in which case, be prepared to shell out $200+ for a costume. That "good" expensive Chewie, is from the prestige line. The bodysuit is actually pretty damned good but sheds like nobody's business, everything else is horrible, crunchy, misshapen latex and glue.
THAT is why those costumes look so damned terrible.
rubies is definitely pretty cheap quality but I'm still grateful for them because they're the ones who made the beast costume I needed for the Chihuahua it was either that or pay way too much on Etsy and I'm on a budget
@@cathya7045 In a pinch, cheap costumes can be tweaked and modified. Sometimes Rubies can pull through like that.
If I had the choice and wasn't constrained by budget, I'd avoid Rubies and Disguise like the plague.

We live in a world were not only do we have easy access to cosplay costumes (which have always been higher in quality) but now those have become even higher quality bit they are also as cheap as some of these. And yet somehow halloween costumes made out of paper tissue fabric still exist. I think the onward one broke me, a real printed hoodie, button up and jeans could be bought for less.
Lmao the Oggie boogie costume is what I wana wear to chase children down the street but no I’m going as a zombie version of shoto todoroki

Every single mass manufactured halloween costume is many with polyester, aka plastic. If you want to give one shred of decency to the environment, please don’t buy these costumes which are made to be coat you in plastic for one night then be thrown away. There’s enough fabric in the world. You can make something yourself out of cotton or buy responsibly from an independent seller 💖💖

Those Buzz accessories would be good for dressing up one of those Buzz t-shirts they sell at the parks, but they probably can't show the model in the shirt or people will think it's included.
As to why Disney's reembracing Hocus Pocus this year, I think it's because there's probably very high viewership for that movie on Disney+ and Disney's taking notes. Disney+ has given us the ability to access a large amount of Disney's Halloween content without having to wait to see it on TV or buy expensive DVDs, and we're taking advantage of it

Finally someone talked about costumes having textures printed on! It drives me insane! And the back “just giving up” ad you said😂 that would’ve annoyed me so much as a kid! Still annoys me now!
So I have been cosplaying my whole life. Specifically Star Wars cosplay, and I've been around and in the 501st, Mandolin Mercs ect. for years. Chewbacca is literally the hardest costume to make. It's possible but I've know people who have spend 1000s upon 1000s of dollars to get chewbacca done. Additionally they have to continually spend money to make sure he always has the proper amount of fur cause the fur falls out between troops.

The reason why they can’t make a good Chewbacca Halloween costume is because the actual costume used in the movies and the parks is made of yak hair which would be super expensive to mass produce.
I don't remember there being a rainbow on Forky's foot, but as an adult, I would 100% wear that costume so I can say "I am trash" and "I'm having an existential crisis" lol
