AR 500 steel and 3/8 thickness is awesome and it doesn't matter where it comes from. On my range that is all I shoot it's 3/8 AR 500 steel because you can't hurt it and I like the way it sounds.

    At 2700 fps, the 450 bushmaster is really comparable to the 45-70. I personally think it’s just a bolt action version of a 45-70. With those options now, the real question is do you want a bolt or a lever action?

    • @Wayne-hs6gm
      @Wayne-hs6gm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@poorfatman5317 I did not realize that. But that doesn’t really affect my statement. The 450 is a new cartridge designed for ar-15 platform, that became popular as a bolt action. There has been very little research into custom load data compared to the 45-70. And at the end of the day, it’s the ft-lbs of energy that matter. And the 450 is able to compete with it in the lighter weight bullets ( 200gr). The 450 is essentially the poor mans big game cartridge.

    I'm surprised you didn't hit it with the 22-250, I remember the last video of it I seen, it put a whole clean through. Would have been interesting to see if it could or atleast how much it digs in

      To penetrate hard targets, you need something hard, fast, long and narrow. Exposed nose tool steel core bullet from 26 Nosler would be about a minimum for that. Obviously tungsten or hard ceramics (like tungsten carbide or boron nitride etc) would work even better.

    That was another awesome video. I really liked the 45-70 extreme penetrator round. Those hit pretty hard. I do believe the 50 BMG would go right through if the plate was securely mounted. Just so it doesn't swing and angle it so the projectiles go into the ground. Keep ringing steel!

    Mr. Who,
    That was thoroughly enjoyable. You should know I appreciate the invite to skip ahead but I refrained so I could them 45/70's and the .30-06. I will be looking up that .12 gauge round and seeing that hoss knockin' around and knockin' down some "stuff". I have shot 3 BMG rounds in my whole life and though I hit my targets (a steel plate, a milk jug, 5 gallon bucket) that is sufficient for me. PS- I will be watching for that Ruger 10/22 ammo test when you get around to cleaning it.
    Thanks a bunch.

    I got some AR 500 steel plates from midway USA on sale a few years ago and I ended up hanging them from 2x4”s and getting some of those temporary/ folding saw horse things and it makes an awesome mobile target system. Single large gongs for long range rifle stuff and 3 on one for a plate rack, love em! Haven’t damaged them yet, other than a chunk out of the edge of one plate from a close range 5.56
