Despite Sasaki being my favorite in the 81 kg class, you can't really argue for his selection when he regularly gets injured and loses to the top 2 on the weight class. Even though he's beaten Fujiwara, he's never beaten Nagase (that I know of), which is odd because Sasaki has competed against and beaten both Casse (twice) as well as Grigalashvili, and as far as I know has never lost to either, which even Nagase and Fujiwara can't claim. A person his size who can get bronze in the open weight at the All Japans should be doing better in his weight class, but it's hard if you're constantly recuperating from injury.
In 48kg it's 100% Tsunoda, but I also really like Koga's judo. (I would keep an eye for Yoshioka, Miyaki and Kondo for the future though). In 52kg, 100% Abe, other people in the category (Shishime, Shiraishi, Omori, etc) aren't close to her. In 57kg, most likely Funakubo, but there's still some chances I think for Tamaoki, Yoshida and Omori. In 63kg, I would say Horikawa is still in front, but both Horikawa and Takaichi didn't have a great performance, so I'd say it's still open (Watanabe, Tatsukawa, Doi, etc can maybe try to catch up). In 70kg, 100% Niizoe, the only that was close to her (Tanaka) got injured so she's miles ahead from any other right now (though in the Juniors, Honda and Hoshino are really good). In 78kg, I agree with you, they'll probably give Takayama more chances and settle with her I'd think. Though Umeki still performs well. Izumi I really like, but she hasn't done well in her last competitions in the international scene. In +78kg, 100% Sone, but Tomita is really good as well. In 60kg, will probably be Takato, but I want to see how well Nagayama, Koga, Kondo and Nakamura can do in the rest of the year. (Big prospect is Fukuda for the future, but Ono from Nittaidai and Matsunaga from Kokushikan are good). In 66kg, 100% Abe. Obviously Maruyama is second, and then you have Tanaka, Fujisaka, Takeoka, etc behind (Hattori (Tokai) and Kentoku (Tenri) from the Juniors are really good). In 73kg, will probably be Hashimoto, but, as you said, Oyoshi, Koga, Ishihara, etc will probably get more chances. (For the future Tanaka and Kihara are really exciting, Obata from Tenri is good as well). In 81kg, Nagase is in front, but we have to see how well (Fujiwara, Sasaki, Kohara, Oino, Kugimura, etc) they'll fight if they get sent. (Izawa from Meiji is really good). In 90kg, I'd say Tajima is close to Murao, but Murao still in front. (For the future, there's this high-schooler from Kokushikan, Kawabata he's really good). In 100kg, they need to send Green, Ueoka, Kumasaka and Wolf to compete more. Iida is not up to the task I think. (Arai is super good as well, though he's still 18). In +100kg, it will probably be Saito. Maybe Ota will get more chances. (I'd like to see Nakamura from Tokai be sent, as well as Nakano).
Honestly, the only 3 judoka that really impressed me out the japanese team this tournament was Uta, Sone, and Tsunoda. Yeah Hifumi looked good too, but despite the results of the final, i dont think he looked any better than Maruyama. The rest of the mens team were not great.
I think Funakubo has more and more troubles: lost against Deguchi, Klimkait and Cysique( 2022 but she was very close to be beaten this year). She can almost only win with her ne-waza and she needs to improve her tashi-waza because it can make her lots of problem ! Personally, I prefer Yoshida even if she isn't the 1st Japanese !
to be honest this year world championship japan performance is disappointing due to the high ranking judoka and hype they have they themself know they did not meet the expectation

Hi
I totaly agree with u
I think Sasaki has more potential but for some reason it’s not coming out on the international stage :(
Ironically for all the talk about the french team, in this world championship Japan was kinda carried by the female team.
🤔

Great observation! Thank you!
What about Goki Tajima? Its looking pretty well
He’ll be given opportunities but Murao still in front
Ai Shishime was a two-time world gold medalist and is definitely the number 2 in under 52.

I hope Maruyama keeps going! He is a great Judoka!
Don't forget Funa Tonaki at -48kg too, she's still great.
Oh yeah she’s good!
Idk if this is a dumb comment but can Maruyama not move to -73?
He doesn’t cut much weight as it is, Abe would be more likely. Go look up Maruyama and Ono pictures. They’re so different
I would't say that Abe dominates maruyama completely.
Does anyone hear know if the guilotine choke is legal in judo?
I think so. As long as it’s a choke and not a neck crank
japan was the best team from 2018 to 2021

Saito did a great performance, he put out everything against Riner but unfortunately wasn't enough.
What about ono, saw something about him coming out of retirement for paris but idk whether it's true or not.
He’s very much retired
I would give more credit to the mexican girl, she was a former british competitor, now she competes for MEX
Sazaki destroyed Grigalashvili
Cbo judo
By no means it was flawless. The team final was terrible.
to be honest this year world championship japan performance is disappointing due to the high ranking judoka and hype they have they themself know they did not meet the expectation
well they do have lots of pressure to win
I think they did pretty well. Just not as many golds as usual
