I met David Gilmour in 1984 back stage at a concert in Hollywood Calif. He gave me a signed album that I have in my music room. We talked for 22 minutes. I called him…“The Master Of The Stratocaster” He smiled. I asked if I could shake both his hands that make such great guitar solos, he smiled bigger and said “Sure” and shook both hands at the same time, making a cross between us, I smiled HUGE. I asked him to describe his technique of playing guitar, he replied… “I strike a note, bend it, shake it and then release it”…. Yes, he does that quite well, better than any other guitarist I know, and I know all the great ones.

Pink Floyd is a great band. David Gilmour is the guitarist and lead singer. Anything from the Pulse concert is worth reacting to, but if you like his guitar solos, check out the song 'Sorrow' from Pulse. I personally think it's even more intense than 'Comfortably Numb.' I also was fortunate to see David Gilmour in concert in 2016. He performed a lot of songs both from Pink Floyd and from his solo work. He was 70 years old that year and put on an amazing performance.

Dude, David Gilmour has an amazing talent for being able to translate emotion into the guitar. Pink Floyd’s albums Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here put it on display, definitely worth the listen if you enjoyed the live performance. He’s playing an American made Fender Stratocaster, since you want to play. The Americans are pricey, but there are plenty of more affordable models of the Stratocaster and would be a great first guitar.

Nice reaction, young man….welcome to my youth. I appreciate how respectful you are, you let the artists do their thing and your comments were minimal.. I respect your respect..
I'm always happy to see when a new reaction video comes up on Comfortably Numb. As many others have said, you have just witnessed one of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded preformed by one of the best, most emotional, guitarists to ever grace a stage. This particular concert was recorded on 20 October 1994, Earls Court, London. This version is widely regarded as one of the best versions of Comfortably Numb ever recorded. I won't go into the meaning behind the song but Comfortably Numb is essentially a duet with David Gilmour providing two of the greatest guitar solos ever recorded. As the ending solo begins, it starts off into a beautiful melody but as the solo continues, it develops into a gigantic crescendo of unbridled passion and emotion. David Gilmour is that special, once in a generation person, that is able to bring out true emotion from his playing. I read a quote from someone once that read "Legend has it, all guitars want David Gilmour for Christmas". Glad you enjoyed the video. If you ever have time, watch the entire concert. It is well worth your time if you get a chance. Be well my friend.
I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap frogged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION… I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.
This is a band that will make you love music . This band is the greatest band in the world. Nobody compares to them . There will be no other band even come close.
Imagine seeing this show live. I saw them 5 times on this tour, and they were so precise that it was note perfect every time. And back in '94, nobody had cell phones, so they actually paid attention to the concert. Also, saw them on the Delicate Sound of Thunder Tour, which was also amazing.
love hearing and seeing people feel the power of the guitar, its like nothing else, to me its the only instrument that can sing like people do, everyone feels it, beautiful
we cant see it, its vibrations and sound waves, all we know its called music, it can change lives. This is as good as it gets, lets be glad we live in the times where genius like this can be witnessed
I really loved this reaction! Just about to hit the subscribe button, and hoping to see you do more Pink Floyd. David Gilmour is the guitarist, btw. Check out his solo stuff too. He played a concert at Pompeii in 2016 at 70 years old and still is better than anyone else. Keep the classic rock reactions coming and stay safe Edwin!
Check out Pink Floyds 'Sorrow' from the same 1994 Pulse Concert. Also 'High Hopes', another spectacular performance. I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since they released their 'Dark Side of the Moon album in 1973, I was 17. Pink Floyd is a British Rock band formed in London in 1965. They have been tremendously successful over the decades, selling over 450 million albums world wide. That would be 2nd place on the all-time albums sold list, second only to The Beatles.
The Pulse concert is amazing. The 1994 light show technology probably surpasses what is available today in 2021 (27 years later). You get to see 3 members of Pink Floyd from the 1960’s putting on a spectacular live performance at around age 50.
That stage was modeled after The Hollywood Bowl. In the 1960s or 1970s, they had come over from England & performed there.....& liked the acoustics. So they had TWO of them built for this tour. While they were playing in one city....the other stage was already being set up in the next, I think they had a fleet of 117 big rigs carrying all of the lasers & sound equipment. Do yourself a favor & listen to that album 'The Wall' start to finish. It's like one big story.
i could name dozens of songs you should watch. they´re the most influential and biggest band of all time, gilmour being one of the greatest guitarists of all time. here in 1994 they were already going for 30 years. their 1973 album DARK SIDE OF THE MOON is considered the most influential album of all time (alongside the beatles´ sgt pepper album). it is a concept album and the 4th highest selling album ever. you would do yourself (and all of us) a favor if you would do that album in one go (songs being connected, it´s almost a must).
"Lonely hearts club band" was greatly influenced by Pink Floyd. Both bands were recording at Abbey Road recording studio at the time. When the Beatles heard Floyd, it blew their minds. The Beatles didn't feel so great after hearing what Pink Floyd was turning out.
It make me proud my favorite band is appreciated by the next generation. And I am an original next generation Floyd fan, since I'm 47. "Dark Side" came out the year I was born, bro. My best concert experience ever was Pulse at Giants Stadium in 1994.
This man is a translator....he passes his emotions thru his fingers that connect with his guitar that drives incredible levels of energy...I doubt it's measurable...
Saw that live. Not that specific recording, but that tour. Seeing that disco ball light up a coliseum was something I'll never forget. And David flat kills that solo everytime. Welcome to the world of Floyd good sir.
Cheers for doing this song, I have heard it many times but I had not seen this live version, a friend that seen them live said it was on another level to the studio tracks. Now I know what he meant.
To see this live was something to behold. I saw it 3 nights in a row and had chills all 3 nights watching this. His solo on this is beyond outstanding it truly is out of this world. The notes seem to be playing to the stage effects then calling to the disco ball to open up but you can't not be affected by just the power of his playing.
Congratulations you've done something I can never do again, hear Comfortably Numb for the first time! Get it on a good quality big sound system and it's awesome. I've had the pleasure of hearing it live! By the way, Pink Floyd invented the light show.
That guitar solo for me is just, well, you know when you hear a song, and no matter how many times you hear it, you just feel amazing hearing it? How it makes anything you are doing that much better? That is what that guitar solo is for me. Every time I hear it, it puts me in an awesome mood.
He’s in the top ten for sure, but I think you’d struggle to find a list with him at 1. With that said, he is a master, and this solo is probably my favorite of all time.
Great reaction! Same concert, SORROW. As epic as you just saw. David Gilmours guitarwork is incredible. By far my favorite. Tons of great guitarwork in Pink Floyds catalog. For a really entertaining guitar performance, check out Prince when he played WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS with other legends. A fantastic performance if you havent seen it. He can really play. Be safe.
If I can recommend an album from PF to you I would recommend watching the pulse dvd. You will essentially get the best concert you will ever see….and hear!!! Give it at shot and watch the thing. It’s long so I’m not sure it would work for a quick 10 minute TH-cam video but I guarantee you complete and utter amazement!! Enjoy and much love for not interrupting the music. Great job my friend 👍🏻👍🏻
Another great solo you have to check out is Chicago playing “25 or 6 to 4” Live at Tanglewood 1970. Terry Kath absolutely kills it. When someone asked Hendrix what it was like to be the world’s greatest guitarist, Jimi said “I don’t know. Ask Terry Kath.” Take a listen to this and you’ll know why he said it.
I'm 74 years old and remember my daddy telling me, you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. Put time into learning the guitar. First the calluses on your fingers to your first chord, then onward.. I know you can do it. God Bless
I flew from Australia just to be at that concert, if you thought that solo was amazing, the solo at the concert was 3.5 minutes longer. you can find the uncut version on youtube. if i posted it to you it would get blocked. they have a song called "wish you were here" it is done with an acoustic guitar on the record, that was the song i taught myself to play a guitar with. i first got into Pink Floyd 1969. yes i am old. this version of Comfortably Numb takes me back to the concert every time i hear it
This was the last song of their concert. You can also catch the encore, which is the song "Run." But if you want to watch the entire concert, you can catch it on TH-cam. I just spent a week in the hospital and, lucky for me, my roommate also liked Floyd, so we watched it together. Regarding how to approach Pink Floyd on disc, start with the "Dark Side of the Moon" album.
Edwin! Great great reaction! Loved it. Old guy here 61.I grew up with this music., the guitar player is David Gilmore. I love him also on their Dark side of the moon album (which btw is meant to be listed too in entirity as each song melds into the next. I love David Gilmore on the song Time. Edwin you need to share this music with your peers, like so many people and so many generations… people tend to stick with listening to what they know and don’t usually explore outside their comfort zones…. Luckily I grew up with older parents, and siblings that were 10 years older as well so I’ve been exposed to everything from do-whop, to classic rock along with older big band era music and of course what was the in thing when I was a kid, which was 80’s pop, hairbands, and the early days of hip hop and rap…. Then the intro of 90’s grunge and so on…. Gotta keep an open mind and sample as much as you can get!!!

The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION…
I have seen Pink Floyd 4 times. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.
It does my old heart good to see young people enjoying the music of my generation. Welcome aboard.
This is a band that will make you love music . This band is the greatest band in the world. Nobody compares to them . There will be no other band even come close.
I was there in 94 😎🤘🤘🤘
This is the best performance of one of the greatest songs ever written. Stunning
I just love seeing the emotions on the faces of all these first time listeners. Such an amazing band and this is my favourite track.
I discovered this song in 2014 ,, still loving it !! Would be still in the future !
Welcome to the "club" Edwin. Hope you keep listening to their music. God bless and keep you .
You get a like simply for being so respectful of the band and the music. Well done.
Now it's in your head. Now you'll be hearing it forever, and that's a good thing.
There is "Music" and there is "Pink Floyd". They brings you somewhere out of your mind!
Legend has it he's still wandering the streets of London, playing that solo....
And the song "Run Like Hell" from that concert, too!
One of the best live performances of guitar solo ever. 😀
Wow, this band is indeed timeless
Thank you for not pausing. You just heard one of the greatest guitar solos of all time, over one of the greatest songs ever written. Subscribed!
Music for the Soul
This man is a translator....he passes his emotions thru his fingers that connect with his guitar that drives incredible levels of energy...I doubt it's measurable...
I was lucky enough to be in the crowd!!! Just beyond amazing... right under the ball!! 😄
I had the pleasure of seeing that tour. Was amazing!
They always close their eyes
That guitar solo for me is just, well, you know when you hear a song, and no matter how many times you hear it, you just feel amazing hearing it? How it makes anything you are doing that much better? That is what that guitar solo is for me. Every time I hear it, it puts me in an awesome mood.
Dave Gilmour arguably the greatest guitarist in history
He’s in the top ten for sure, but I think you’d struggle to find a list with him at 1. With that said, he is a master, and this solo is probably my favorite of all time.
@@ugadawgs1990 Which is why I said “arguably”🧐
Now you have discovered The Pink Floyd, Listen to them and enjoy. Do a reaction to Great Gig in the sky next.
I'm 74 years old and remember my daddy telling me, you can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. Put time into learning the guitar. First the calluses on your fingers to your first chord, then onward.. I know you can do it. God Bless
Went to one of their concerts, was blown away!!!!!
Im glad a young man as your self now has respect for this older classic rock keep the good work and research all ways your friend Chad GODs Speed
I like your openness and u don't over do it. Good job!
- "Man, he's still goin'"
Me: "Hold on to your seat, witness greatness!"
Great video man ;-)
I flew from Australia just to be at that concert, if you thought that solo was amazing, the solo at the concert was 3.5 minutes longer. you can find the uncut version on youtube. if i posted it to you it would get blocked. they have a song called "wish you were here" it is done with an acoustic guitar on the record, that was the song i taught myself to play a guitar with. i first got into Pink Floyd 1969. yes i am old. this version of Comfortably Numb takes me back to the concert every time i hear it
Thanks for listening and not pausing it every 20 secs like others do. Welcome to the world of pink floyd,,,enjoy
This was the last song of their concert. You can also catch the encore, which is the song "Run." But if you want to watch the entire concert, you can catch it on TH-cam. I just spent a week in the hospital and, lucky for me, my roommate also liked Floyd, so we watched it together.
Regarding how to approach Pink Floyd on disc, start with the "Dark Side of the Moon" album.
because of this video i LEARD how to plat ay 55 yrs old. I now have 8 guitars and brings me great joy every day
Edwin! Great great reaction! Loved it. Old guy here 61.I grew up with this music., the guitar player is David Gilmore. I love him also on their Dark side of the moon album (which btw is meant to be listed too in entirity as each song melds into the next. I love David Gilmore on the song Time. BTW I started playing guitar in my mid 30ies. Never to late to start. The old saying was if you can practice at least 1 hour a day, after 2 years you will have a nice base to row from. I personaly know someone who started at 30 and in 2 years was incredible! sadly I was not....but I am not bad and enjoy it. LOL
Been a Floyd fan for over 40 years but in this video / on this tour the LD is just on another fucking level. That stage omg !!!!
I saw this tour at Yankee stadium...excellent! all these first time listeners use this cut.
They've been doing huge shows like this for many decades
I wonder how many people have heard Dave Gilmore and said, " I need to learn guitar "
Good reaction
Took my son to see this in his senior year of high school in Vancouver, B.C. Watch the whole concert.
I need to learn, I need to learn...I admire this young man and hope he learns what he needs to to be happy in life!
Marooned by Pink Floyd is amazing
Bro, Pink Floyd has been around since 1965.
