Some people argue that the second solo of Comfortably Numb on the Pulse Tour was and is the best solo ever played by a guitarist on this planet. I agree!

I'm always surprised anytime someone (especially a musician) says they have not heard Pink Floyd. But if you are going to get into the band, you have at least listen to an album side (1st half) beginning to end. Pink Floyd is not a band that you can really get by listening to randomly selected tracks. Every album is a concept that tells a story or has a unifying theme.

Thank you so much for reacting to this. I was in high school when this song first came out in 1979. I remember it well. My girlfriend at the time and I loved attending concerts. It was one of the things we loved doing together. There were a huge number of wonderful groups at the time and concerts were not very expensive to attend. Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Journey, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Triumph, 38 Special, Foreigner, and many others. I can not describe to you what a wonderful time it was to be young then. We were happier, relationships were closer, life was more carefree, and the music was spectacular. My heart just aches that young people will not get to experience life as we did as teenagers in the 70’s/80’s. Again, thank you so much for posting this video. It was a wonderful treat.
Pink Floyd is Legendary, they're a Vibe! I've been a huge Pink Floyd fan since they released their "Dark Side of the Moon" album in 1973, I was 17. There's no Rock band like Pink Floyd, they're in a category all by themselves. The listener feels Pink Floyds music, they take you on a cerebral journey, and David Gilmour's guitar is a big part of that. This Pulse concert is one of the best live Rock Concert/Show "productions" I've ever seen, it's really off the charts for 1994 imo.
I have 3 main bands that i absolutely love & have been with me for over 40+ years. These are Pink Floyd, Rush & Queen. I put them in no order of which are "best", they're all as good in their own ways. I got to see Rush live when i was about 16 yrs old, hitch hiked over 200 miles (back 200 too) to see them in London. I never unfortunately saw Queen live, although i hope one day to. I was however at this amazing Pink Floyd gig shown here. Another 200 mile journey to see them at Earls court London but thankfully that time on coach lol. I cannot express my deep passion & love for Pink Floyd, they have been in my life since such a young age. David Gilmour, like Lifeson & May is a guitar legend, a guitar god. His long notes & powerful guitar work is as much unsurpassed as Lifeson or indeed that of Brian May of Queen. They all deserve the 'guitar god' title & they all belong to the greatest groups category in music history. Pink Floyd, Queen & Rush have hit the accolade of global phenomenon now, they all deserve it.. Great to see you reacting to Pink Floyd, my favorite group when I was young, and my current favorite group, BTS. I cannot tell you how many times I blasted this song.
Never gets old. Sounds a little better every time even. haha. Thanks for checking it out. Its such an honor to the music that you are obviously such a careful and spirited listener! Awesome channel!
I was at one of the Pulse shows at Earls Court in 1994, I was a 24 year old and it was my second time seeing Pink Floyd. It was unbelievable, a full rendition of Dark Side of The Moon and just when you though life could not get any better they played this. I think I will enjoy watching your Pink Floyd journey with you.
Great reaction, John! Very much enjoyed watching you experience this and feel the same way we all did the first time we experienced this show. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing you do more Pink Floyd. As for which songs to do next, Pink Floyd albums are conceptual and meant to be experienced as a whole. They're more akin to a complete story rather than a collection of random songs. If you are up for it, I would recommend reacting to each album in one sitting, then either uploading it as a whole, or breaking the uploads into smaller files. Doing a song randomly is like picking up a novel and reading a chapter from the middle of the book. It's surely satisfying, but context is lost. Especially in the case of the "Big 4", Dark Side Of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. The Final Cut, to a lesser extent. If you would rather do another random song first, I would recommend Time or Money next. Lots to go from there though. Again, great job on the reaction, man!
Exactly. I always thought of them like a classical piece of work, say, an opera by Verdi, or an Symphony by Bach or Beethoven. While you might listen to one part and think "That is fantastic", the 'Big 4' you mentioned were made to be listened to from 1st track to last.
John, this is a great example of PF. I was at this concert and it was an amazing experience. I can’t describe how good it all was. The sound and the visuals are very well put together and the huge mirrorball at the end was just amazing. Legendary musicians. Glad I was able to go.
Pink Floyd is a rabbit hole you will never emerge from , I've been down there since 1972 . David Gilmour's timing , the way he holds a note and sheer emotion is spellbinding. He plugs his soul into the amp . You have to listen to Dark Side of The Moon in one go to appreciate the story behind the album , it's a message to us all .
You are obviously part Floydian, The song "Time", needs to be heard to understand their excellence not only on stage; but their incredible in-studio production. Time may be the best example of that, oh and the song is great too!
Great reaction to this classic song and video. I saw them on this Pulse tour in 1994 at The Alamodome in San Antonio with 47,000 fans. I had 18th row seats on the floor and it was an experience of a lifetime!!! Also saw them in 1987 in Austin. You should also react to, from this Pulse tour, High Hopes and Run Like Hell!!!!
I was fortunate enough to have been at that concert in 1994 when they came to the US. That was Pink Floyd's final tour as that band. It was the most ethereal experience I have ever been a part of.
Sam Brown (backing vocals) should take such immense credit for her incredible, immaculate harmonies…perfectly delivered. Lovely to meet you when you supported ELP at Royal Albert Hall in October 1992.
Big audience, and I was lucky enough to be one of them :) Brilliant solo, especially as this was at the end of a long show, this was the second encore, the 3rd and final encore was "Run like Hell", if you like light shows you should miss that! The entire show was brilliant, but if you want another great solo try "Sorrow", or maybe "One of the days".
John, I don't usually comment on videos, but I have to say, you've got to listen to Dark Side of the Moon all the way through, with no interruptions, in a dark room with headphones. That album remained on the album chart for 741 weeks from 1973 to 1988! My husband and I have been blessed to have seen Pink Floyd live 25 times in different parts of the world. The best time was on Long Island, New York 5 night in a row in 1988. If you ever get the chance the best tribute band to see would be Brit Floyd. I hope you'll listen to the Wish You Were Here and Animals albums, too. Pink Floyd has always been my favorite band and always will be. Thanks for all your videos. We really enjoy them. P.S. I forgot to mention the first time we saw them live was in 1977 Frankfurt, Germany. The Animals album had just been released days before and we got to hear Animals for the first time live. It was incredible! Cheers, John!
hands down john,,the best solo ever......argue that and makes me tear up everytime,,dead brothers song..takes me back to when we whooped each others ass as kids...love it
First introduced to Floyd in 1969 by of all people… my grandma. CCR for my birthday & Pink Floyd for Christmas. In 69, under Syd Barrett a much different style, more psychedelic!
I have seen Pink Floyd Live 4 times… I saw this same show in N.Y. 1994. The concert brochure said the stage is 120 feet wide. It takes a crew of 60 technicians three days to set up the entire lights and all. The concert schedule required that there had to be three entire crews to keep up. They leap froged each other for 92 shows with 20 Trucks per crew and a total staff of 195. The tour cost the promoters $98.MILLION to put on, but the total profit was $260 MILLION. Nick Mason’s drumming is incredible and matches Gilmour’s guitar emotions while Richard Wright takes us on a Magic Carpet Ride of tones that form the foundation of it all.
I went to The Wall concert in Los Angeles in 1981. Because the stage was so elaborate it couldn't travel. They only did 31 shows in 6 cities. There were so many trucks they had to shut the roads to the LA Sports Arena for six hours when they arrived. In 1989, I was in the US Army stationed at Vicenza, Italy and got to go to the Venice concert. That one was wild. It was free and so many people showed up they has to close down the trains and water taxis. A riot broke out when people couldn't get to the islands. The head of the gondoliers union tried to blackmail Pink Floyd. He told them they wanted US$10,000 or they were going to fill the canal with their gondolas and blow these whistles they carry during the entire show. Gilmour told them sure, come back after the show. When they showed up after they show, Gilmour told them to piss off. The gondolier ended up getting arrested. The mayor of Venice was forced to resign over the damage that was done to the city. The city council said the amps caused sonic damage to St. Mark's Basilica.
Listen to sorrow live He Auctioned off a lot of his guitars including the black strat which sold for 3.2 million alone. And he donated it all to charities he’s one of the most talented guitar players and honestly he’s one hell of a human being.
Mind was officially blown when this version came out in 1994. Knew and loved the song before, but this took it to a stratospheric level! I still get chills every time I hear it! The Pink Floyd well is deep...so much incredible music to hear & experience. Just a smattering of must listens: Echoes, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Time, Dogs, Welcome To The Machine, Wish You Were Here, Us And Them, Money, One Of These Days (do the version from this concert! 1994's PULSE)...these guys were masters of 'head' music! Always a trip!
On your own you need to listen to and experience,”Pink Floyd” album ”Dark Side Of The Moon”, when you get to “Great Gig in the Sky”, your head will explode, keep on going listen to the rest of the album. And then listen to it again and again. Other great Pink Floyd albums, “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals”, The Wall”, add more.
The power that the rest of the band brings to this song provides a wave of emotion .. listen to the beat down as he plays. Its a thousand pounds of music on your soul.
"Leo Fender created the Stratocaster and God created David Gilmour to play it." This solo still brings tears to my eyes, just as it did in the auditorium that night a, scarcely believable, 27 years ago.
Nobody. NOBODY puts more raw gut emotion into their playing than Gilmore. Just staggering to see every time. And he sings pretty good too! ;) To be fair, if you want to really hear "Pink Floyd" you need to go back to their earlier years when it was a quartet with Roger Waters. But great video for sure!
It's safe to dive into Pink Floyd "head first" John as PF's musical pool is VERY DEEP! Since the late 1960s, hippies and all sorts of music lovers have been trippin' to PF's tunes and albums. Try "The Wall" to understand the lyrics and setting of "Comfortably Numb," it's quite a journey. Love the way PF embraces the deep BASS as a counterbalance to the toothy treble of the terrific guitar solo riffs.
Along with the Floyd ( this was their last concert ). Checkout some of Dave's solo work after the Floyd. " Live at Gdansk" " take a breathe " On an island " the blue" Last time playing " Echoes" all *****. "Live at Pompeii: :" in any tongue" ***** the whole concert and Daves last. Couldn't have picked a better one to start with, maybe the best live recordings ever. DAVID GILMORE.
Except it's spelt "GILMOUR"
@@psbarrow Sorry,but you just spelled SPELLED SPELT!😁👌
@@kevinsmith4429 That's because I'm English. Look up how the past tense of "spell" is used in British English, from the mob who invented your language in the first place.
@@psbarrow Sorry, tried to reply but doen't seem to be working,so if somehow you get 2 replies ,sorry. Yes,you are correct,I was just jacking with you. I am an Original Native of the Sovereign Osage Nation in Oklahoma, have no affiliation to that other mess. Nice to converse with you.

@@psbarrow agree! We Aussies use spelt too!
They put you on a awesome journey! Go down the Pink rabbit hole, you will never be the same!! All PF is Fire!!!🔥
GREAT REACTION Being old sucks, but I was there when it all started! Tears in the eyes :)
this song always brings me to tears every time.
Awesome channel!
you couldn't have a better intro to PF... happy journey.
Pink Floyd doesn't make music , they make ART . Listening to this band since 1972 .
John, this is a great example of PF. I was at this concert and it was an amazing experience. I can’t describe how good it all was. The sound and the visuals are very well put together and the huge mirrorball at the end was just amazing. Legendary musicians. Glad I was able to go.
I was there. Watching & listening to as Amazing virtuoso in dad jeans & t-shirt.
At the Pulse Concert, there are 3 members of Pink Floyd from the 1960s performing at around age 50.
May 1, 1994 Birmingham Alabama - one of my greatest concert experiences.
The Pulse concert is a MUST watch
Good for you!!
Thank you for your reaction. Reminds of good old days.
You are obviously part Floydian, The song "Time", needs to be heard to understand their excellence not only on stage; but their incredible in-studio production. Time may be the best example of that, oh and the song is great too!
This was always one of my favorite PF songs. I always wanted more guitar at the end of the studio version. Here, Gilmour gives it up!
Just love this uninterrupted response! Well done Sir !
Please also check out Pink Floyd live at Pompeii 1972; 50 years ago.
To witness them live is the only way to truly appreciate
I was fortunate enough to have been at that concert in 1994 when they came to the US. That was Pink Floyd's final tour as that band. It was the most ethereal experience I have ever been a part of.
Watch "one of these days " from the live pulse album.. also any songs from the live pulse concert you will not be disappointed
The guys carefully reached their hands into the firmament with this one and brought back a huge slice of Heaven.
Pink Floyd... total legends !
next one from Pink Floyd - On The Turning Away (live to the Delicate Sound of Thunder concert 1988) 😎👍
Sam Brown (backing vocals) should take such immense credit for her incredible, immaculate harmonies…perfectly delivered.
Lovely to meet you when you supported ELP at Royal Albert Hall in October 1992.
Pink Floyd always takes you on a ethereal vision quest. Like a band of plains-walkers, phasing through the realms of existence. Take it all in.
Pink Floyd is a genre in itself...if we approach this style musically and creatively, we make "Pink Floyd" music.
david gilmour, black t-shirt, jeans, no gimmicks. arguably the greatest of them all.
More!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Both "Sorrow" and "High Hopes" from this concert are amazing.
You absolutely should listen to all Pink Floyd...they have so many amazing songs. I can't think of any that I don't love. 💜💜💜💜💜💜
You should start with my 2 favorite albums, Wish you were here and Dark Side of the Moon.💜Have fun!!💜
The entire "Pulse" concert is worth watching, every single song is a show.
hands down john,,the best solo ever......argue that and makes me tear up everytime,,dead brothers song..takes me back to when we whooped each others ass as kids...love it
Good reaction video - thank you!
Greetings from New Orleans..digging the reactions and commentary!
First introduced to Floyd in 1969 by of all people… my grandma. CCR for my birthday & Pink Floyd for Christmas. In 69, under Syd Barrett a much different style, more psychedelic!
Arguably the best guitar solo in the history of rock.
No one makes a guitar weep quite like DG 🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️
Brilliant! David is a master.
Listen to sorrow live He Auctioned off a lot of his guitars including the black strat which sold for 3.2 million alone. And he donated it all to charities he’s one of the most talented guitar players and honestly he’s one hell of a human being.
This song has the best guitar solo of all time, in my opinion. It is also the most visually impressive concert I have ever seen.
It's like watching Secretariat run away with the Belmont Stakes in '73. So emotional.
Pure Talent...saw them in the 80s
lol, who was that guitar player!! Just the Greatest guitar player of all time!
This is one of the most epic concerts ever. Please do more. 😎💯
Shine On You Crazy Diamond! Same Show!! Must See!!! Opening song.
Dude, you're born to see Pink Floyd playing ECHOES Live at Pompeii 1972.
😏 I'm about to change my mind on Dark Side and pick Echoes instead! 😁🐰
That whole concert is available on YT, you should check it out if you haven't already.
Just watch the whole Pulse concert. Prepare to be amazed.
Pink Floyd the Epitome of Music
☮️🎼👊
From the same Pulse Concert, try to check out SORROW, ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL (part 2), and also RUN LIKE HELL
best band of all times 😎👍
Along with the Floyd ( this was their last concert ). Checkout some of Dave's solo work after the Floyd. " Live at Gdansk" " take a breathe " On an island " the blue" Last time playing " Echoes" all *****. "Live at Pompeii: :" in any tongue" ***** the whole concert and Daves last. The only person to play in this theater twice since 79 AD.
Solo 2 Soothes my little baby soul. Shout out to King lyrxst
