    Great information! I use the Manna Pro goat minerals you showed briefly on the screen. As far as I know, this is the only brand that contains ammonium chloride, which inhibits the formation of urinary calculi in the excretory systems of goats -- especially bucks and wethers. It is a horrible condition that is excruciatingly painful to the animal and, if not corrected in time, fatal. I keep a jar of ammonium chloride on had and add a little extra to the Manna Pro whenever I refill the mineral feeders.

    • @DelcifromALifeofHeritage
      @DelcifromALifeofHeritage  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's so good you keep some on hand! Yes! It's awful to have happen to our sweet boys! I have never personally had one of my bucks or wethers get it, thankfully. The timing of when a goat is castrated affects their likelihood of getting urinary calculi along with their diet and water intake. Thanks for the comment, that's great information!

    Hi, first I want to say that I love your videos. They are very helpful. I have two wetherd miniature goats who are almost a year old. I have tried several ways to get them to eat their minerals. I've tried adding it into their daily hard food, and they just eat around it. I tried mixing a little water and apple cider vinegar in with it ( as was suggested to me) and they wouldn't touch the food. I've put it out as a free choice and I've not seen any evidence that they have touched any of it other than the baking soda. They do lick the pink salt lick, but don't seem to be touching any of the other minerals. The minerals I have on offer are copper, Sulphur, dolomite, kelp/seaweed, garlic granules , and Kooglow supplement. One of my goats has long hair and he also has really bad dandruff which is why I started offering the Koolglow hoof and coat supplement. I also have baking soda and charcoal on offer. All of these supplements and minerals were suggested by the breeder. I live in Australia and we really don't have any goats specific brands of supplements or minerals available in our feed stores . Sorry for the long comment, but I am just concerned that I am not doing something right. I mainly worry about their copper intake. I am honestly very confused as to what is the right thing to do. I would greatly appreciate any advice or comments you can give regarding how to offer the minerals or what I could be doing better. Thank you so much for your time.

    Just found your channel and so thankful as I'm about to acquire my first two nigerian dwarf does in milk in under a month! The current owner has them on a mineral block, but I want to offer loose minerals as you suggest. How would you suggest I make that switch? Would it be ok to just start them off on loose minerals right when I get them or do I need to start with the block then slowly switch like I will for their grain? Thank you!

    • @DelcifromALifeofHeritage
      @DelcifromALifeofHeritage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wonderful! That's so exciting!
      I would just offer them the loose mineral. If they are deficient, they might eat a lot of the mineral at first but it will even out as they start to get enough.
      Good luck! 😊

    • @DelcifromALifeofHeritage
      @DelcifromALifeofHeritage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct, I wouldn't mix it into the minerals. Don't mix anything in with the minerals because it can mess with their consumption.
      You can give it in a drench. A lot of times people will add it to their natural dewormer mix.

      I'm not sure I followed that exactly. But the best thing to give your goats is grass or hay. It's best to rotate the pastures if possible to help them have less of a worm load. A high grain diet can cause problems if it's not managed properly.
