  • The Homesteader from Henry Repeating arms is direct blowback 9mm carbine that reminds me a little bit of a mini BAR. Henry has done some interesting things with the reciprocating mass that makes this a very low recoil 9mm rifle

    In many regions, using an EBR will bring a legal lynching after a self-defense shooting. The traditional aesthetics of this carbine could help with getting a "not guilty" verdict as the jury will see a "deer rifle" rather than "machine gun".

    Made the mistake of asking to hold "the Henry without a lever" and as soon as I held it I told them to start the paperwork. Solid build, like the mag options, shoots spot on with those iron sights. It is a ton of fun at the range, but also very versatile. Still waiting for a .357 sidegate, but in the meantime this is fun, and 9mm is a bit less expensive to throw down the range

    10mm would be a good idea, but they need to add a delayed blowback to get the full potential of the cartridge. I don't want to run 10mm light, only to prevent case head separation on proper 10mm loads

    • @zaitcev0
      @zaitcev0 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Case separation is a concern on any blowback action. And, there's absolutely no difference in that regard between direct blowback and a delayed one. Both of them must permit a motion of the bottom of the case that activates the action.

  • @itsapittie
    @itsapittie ปีที่แล้ว +10

    The current "tactical" craze is kind of silly anyway. Tactical is a behavior, not an object. With an extended magazine and red dot sight, this carbine doesn't give up anything to an AR-platform 9mm. Personally, I like the traditional look and the fact that it's less likely than an AR-style carbine to attract negative attention doesn't hurt. Taking Sig magazines is a big plus because I have a P250. If they made an adapter for CZ mags it would be pretty nearly perfect.

    • @littlejimmy7402
      @littlejimmy7402 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the general American Soldier, tactical in gear meant it was tough (probably heavy too) and wouldn't break if you had to use it differently than designed (think entrenching tool). Also, that it was kind of inexpensive so when you lost it it wasn't a huge deal.
      The hi-speed tactical talk today always runs into what the Army runs into. I was an MLRS crewman in the Army twice, in different decades. The second time around was in 2004. In an effort to modernize and save money on printing, technical manuals were distributed as a file. Each MLRS launcher was assigned a Toshiba Toughbook.
      Every Toughbook in my platoon, except 1, had a broken LCD and they were waiting on replacement. I don't know if this is still an issue, but to think every combat vehicle in the US inventory is relying on a portable (and easily dropped) LCD screen, that's a huge and expensive issue. I'm sure the supply chain is such that it's expensive and inflexible as well.

      My thoughts exactly ! Why Ruger won't make a CZ adapter is beyond me I mean I get Glock love even though I don't own any. What I do own is a crap ton of Freedom week mags for Glocks and CZ's but I run CZ pistols so i'd prefer a CZ magwell because I own a bunch. Even Kel Tec knew enough to make their magwells for pretty much any pistol on the market with the multi mag version Sub2k.

    • @zaitcev0
      @zaitcev0 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Henry is difficult to make a takedown - at best the action bars will stick forward. Ruger is always a takedown. Henry has a more refined design of the magwell module, which may in time permit SMG magazines, paddle releases, etc. Ruger's magwell is basic and limits the acceptable magazine types.

    FIRST....Never buy a new model of anything. Cars, guns, or otherwise. Wait for the second debugged version. No idea why this dude is wasting his time and ammo shooting this gun at 250 yards. The bad attitude toward 45 acp is just as dum. Henry has a good idea here but it needs refinement. 1). Add take down capability. 2) 45 acp or better. You could still own a 9mm version too. 3) 5 round mags?? Seriously? At least 2 ten round or more mags in the box. 4). Wood is good but what's on there looks like it was made in high school wood shop. Needs a handsome high quality finish. Do all that and I'll gladly pay the $800 or more Henry thinks it's worth. In it's current version? No thank you.

    Henry missed the mark, they could have made a winner out the gate if it was in 10mm, 357mag, 44mag or 45acp. They are competing with everyone at 9mm, and Ruger is crushing them. Right now, it's almost worthless.

    • @bower31

      357 and 44 don't gonna go well in a box magazine, 45acp is for people with dementia, and it's called the homesteader, not the deer rifle. It's in 9mm for people to shoot coyotes and shit, not to shoot medium game. It's true the Ruger is cheaper, but man the PC carbine is very meaty
