    An excellent unbiased review which I have come to expect from Pocketnow. The 1520 is on order and I think its going to be my phone for a couple of years!!!

    Using this phone for 3 years now, it's very sturdy and with the WINDOWS 10 Anniversary update, it's superb!
    Every weakness mentioned in this review were gone, except it's size of course!

    I've been accustomed to Android but later this month I might be switching to Windows. Thinking of getting the 1520 or the 930,but I want to ask people here if it's worth the switch.

      @ajproart2 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      The one in the middle (that's what she said lol) from the 3.

    • @andreamangano6059
      @andreamangano6059 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made the same switch. I was a bit scared about it. But now I really like WP and integration between multiple devices (phone, Surface Pro, Notebook).
      I started with a second hand 925, and I finished just today to buy a 1520.
      I just sold my 925.
      I was coming from a Galaxy Note N7000 and I wouldn't buy a Samsung again.
      The build quality of Nokias/Microsoft is very high.
      I liked the smaller size of the 925 and portability, but I miss the readability of the phablet size devices and the lack of an external storage slot.
      So that's why I switched to 1520.
      I hope to get used by size.

    As Michael said, it is the sotware the one draging this phone down. The addition of the SD card is kind of crippled without a proper file explorer. Also the lack of USB host capabilities is another unfortunate limitation of WP8 that push these devices out of power users' radar.
    This type of devices (phablets) would benefit a lot from having a OS like WinRT which, although not good enough for desktop devices, would certainly make this device far more usable than it is with WP8.
    Hoperfully, MS may update WP8 to be more like WinRT so these devices are more versatile in the future.

  • @PeteBeast
    @PeteBeast 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Amazing review as always! One thing though, at the begining you said "It's WP's only phablet to date" Isn't the 1320 a phablet, also?

    • @slavsuperstar7792

  • @Ronnet
    @Ronnet 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Too big for a Phone, too small for a tablet. It doesnt matter. These devices are personal computers and their size depends on personal preference. Microsoft is moving towards one OS for all devices. So you can run the same Windows on your Phone, tablet, laptop, desktop or whatever you call your daily driver. This is a pretty cool vision for the future and it puts them ahead of Apple and Google that have multiple isolated operating systems.

  • @zybch
    @zybch 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Worth noting this is a review of the inferior AT&T version that has 1/2 the storage and no wireless charging compared to the non-gimped European/Australian version. Also, it has a super sensitive touchscreen that can be used even when wearing gloves which could be a HUGE selling point for anyone living through winters where u don't want your hands freezing off.
    Its a GREAT phone/phablet. I've had mine for a couple of months and found it VERY VERY difficult to switch back to my 2010 with its 'tiny' 4.5" screen, and its just so more polished design and materials wise than any other device I've used (and I've used a LOT). The OS is also the only mobile OS that feels current in its look and feel. Apple hasn't done jack for years with iOS and android used to and still feels like a barely working collection of disparate parts bolted together.

    As a previous Lumia 920 user who upgraded to 925 then finally got the Lumia 1020, All I can say that it seems I got a new addiction, these phones are simply great if not the best among all competitors in terms of quality that includes great photography, wonderful screens, amazing sound quality and much more!
    However for me and as I'm still addicted to my Lumia 1020 fine outcomes specifying the Camera, sound and Screen, I will be waiting for more Megapixels Lumia phablet to buy at least I can get both more horse power along with ultimate photography.
    Cheerz! Adel

    Give me that spec in a 4,5/5" display (so I can fit it in my pocket ;p) and it'll be a perfect phone for me. One question: does the "black" update finally support bf keyboards?

    A score of 8.4 sounds impressive, but what does that really mean? Do you have the points criteria somewhere broken down so I can see where it scored well and where it did not?
    Thanks.

    @goswamidhaval 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That was a very true review.
    I too am pissed with companies not using the screen size to advantage. I have a note 3 but the UI makes it look like an upsized S4... Thats stupid...Why cant we have more icons on the screen and multi tasking windows at the same time...
    Atleast this one has a home screen with more tiles, so that we dont have to hunt around. But again just one step in to the UI and again the disappointment creeps in...

    That is a good looking phone for its size. Windows needs to figure out how to utilize that size more. Good thing is that looks like it could be fixed in software updates. The only thing I would worry about is that it never gets a software update. But have to say the home screen does look nice.

      Yeah but the specs are far between them. CPU, GPU, screen resolution and the capability of the 1520 to throw RAW DNG files.
      The power of the unit will be important to determine how Microsoft will update functionality of the the device in the future.

    A beautiful phone with what looks like a pretty damn good camera. As an Android user (and a former iOS user), I can see the appeal, but can't help but feel ambivalent. I have to use the "A" word: apps. Has it gotten better?
    Pandora
    G-mail
    Keeper
    Dropbox
    Google Drive
    These are just some of the essential ones. Does Windows Phone have Outlook installed? Can you manage your files like w/ Android? Any info is appreciated.

      I love the phone, I have had it since day one. For your "A" list here it goes, Pandora, Yes. G-Mail can be added under accounts it's situated as outlook settings, not an actual G-Mail App. If Keeper is the PW security app then Yes. Dropbox there isn't an actual app for it but a ton of 3rd party apps to connect with Dropbox. Google Drive again no actual app (that's on google not MS) but there are 3rd party apps that connect to Google Drive. It comes with office installed and outlook is the mail program with phone. I must mention though, in regards to the cloud drives you mentioned, I prefer MS's OneDrive to them. Easy syncing between all devices connected to the one drive. Especially if you are using Windows 8.1 PC, to be able to just work on the same document seamlessly between devices without having to due a manual sync. As for the rest of the apps that are available it's not as abundant as Apple or Android but face it 90% of the apps in the stores are useless, that's including the windows store. But the apps that are worth it are well worth it. Gaming apps is where this phone really shines, as seen from the video. Along with OneDrive syncing it also syncs your outlook calendar. It has reminders for events and appts, and since its outlook it will also send you a reminder email. As for file management, there is really nothing to manage. pics are stored in pic folder, music is stored in music folder etc etc... and all that can be managed thru the computer with either the program or basic windows explorer. With the upcoming Windows Phone 8.1 Update coming you'll be able to explore files on the phone. Hope this helps.

      babyhughhef Thank you for the reply and information (and for being nice about it too). I may be ready to give a Lumia/Windows Phone a shot. I like Android, but a lot of the apps can be buggy and the OS itself, though flexible with a ton of customization options, is prone to lag and crashes, especially with some 3rd party launchers.
      I own the original Surface, and even though the app store is sparse, the excellent hardware, integration with Sky/One Drive, and inclusion of MS Office is quite nice. Also the standby battery life is very good and I don't have to worry about screen brightness or continually closing apps. I hope the Lumia phones have similar standby battery life; the hardware looks equally exceptional.

      the battery life on the 1520 is amazing, my longest time with out charging is 2 days and 10 hours that's with surfing the web and videos music and games. the screen auto adjusts the brightness, quite good, but you can change it to suit your needs. another feature I like about this phone and other MS products is that it scans your music and if it is also sold in the music store it is automatically added to your music collection via the cloud. which is something nobody else does. if you got an unlimited data plan or a healthy one or on Wi-Fi you can basically have your entire music collection on your phone.

    Windows Phone was the superior mobile experience...and Nokia Lumia was the perfect hardware that not only delivers but adds to that experience.
