I have around 25 Phals and they are all in pots in spaghnum moss. They all live outside on my back patio and seem to love it there. I live in Brisbane, Australia, so we have hot summers and cool winters. Your Phal is beautiful, I love the delicate coloured blooms.

This is truly a lovely phal. Appreciated being able to hear how you have cared for this orchid. Thanks!

The newest and oldest leaf look normal, all the other ones indicate the light wasn’t enough when they were forming hence the dark green hue and no invisible silver markings. When mounting the leaves hang perpendicularly they receive less light than being potted as the leaves face to the sky.

Wonderful to bloom these species in your location sir. They can grow well in low elevations but are quite hard to bloom in hot/warm areas since they are highland species. I believe in Florida it has low temp drop during winter just enough to initiate bud formation? In terms of size, I made comparison on their flowers, Phal. philippinensis is on par with amabilis. Your plant is very established on the mount and the roots looks marvelous unless the roots are starting to stray away from the mount is the time to move it to bigger mount

Nice plant! How do you treat for mites?

Different products, every 4 or 5 days for 2 or 3 months.... I spray pure 70% isopropyl alcohol and wipe with kleenex. That kills on contact but damages buds and flowers (so only on non flowering plants). I use Avid, Bayer 3-1 miticide (mites are spiders and insecticides do not work on them). Twice a year, I use distance which is a systemic.

Beautiful! Absolutely a lovely phal. I have (had...is probably what is most likely going to happen) a schilleriani x phillapensis that has the most beautiful big purple leaves with gorgeous markings with a compliment of phillapensis looking flowers, it went down hill quickly this blooming, couldn't see but a couple of mealies, then all but one leaves were on the floor. I found a thick group right under the sheath....mine is in a bark/moss mix in a pot, so without lifting it out of the pot I missed the big problem. Wish I could find it again just to be prepared for what I feel is a bad outcome.

@@kellyduguay3368 Yeah, we need to observe our plants constantly. Pests are always plotting :(
