I love how you committed to teaching yourself 8 in 8 and once you talked yourself into the attitude of "I'll learn or at least I can say I tried" so yes. Also, I saw MJ describing and demonstrating "How" to Moonwalk and the trick is that while you're sliding one foot back, just as you're about to slide the other foot back you slide forward with the one you just slid back. It worked for me and I don't dance at all.,.but I don't stand still either 🤣 Yes, 8 more after you recover from tired cheeks, hurting legs, and the abrasions on your neck.✌️♥️🎸🎶🙏

I'm impressed by the progress you made with the trumpet in 1 hour. I've played the flute for a while and it has a similar thing going on with the embouchure. I've heard that the trumpet is one of the harder brass instruments to get the embouchure down on.
trumpet is hard af man, i can make good sounds and pay a couple octaves, but for me the hardest part is improv and phrasing with the fingering positions
I've played trumpet for more than 10 years at the music school and the hard part is, that you have to make the exact pitch with your lips..the fingering part is, compared to guitar, pretty easy imo. And you have to practice constantly, otherwise you loose your muscles pretty fast. Haven't played for a few years now and can't make a single clean tone anymore. French horn is similar.
I play trumpet guitar and flute among many others and so far I have found that trumpet for sure has a very strange embouchure and while your problems with flute are very hard to deal with they will eventually get better just by playing at all but with trumpet you very much have to focus on that and it doesn’t only get better by playing. You have to put that as a priority
trumpet progress is real dude! i’ve been playing for almost 9 years now and the best advice i’ve heard is to tighten the corners, just the corners of your lips, and make sure you are pushing air with your diaphragm. also, think of it like your blowing air through the horn, not into it. hope this helps!
The last one with the spoon is actually really cool! You can play the rhythm and melody on the same guitar! That is definitely something I want to learn myself. Always love your videos, keep up the amazing work!

Approach sweeping slow and methodical. If you try to sweep at 200 bpm starting out, you will not improve the techniques of muting and the flow of your picking hand. Be sure to use a metronome when practicing this, or the notes will feel sloppy.
I LOVE the "you can do it" message at the end of this. It was fun watching you try all these skills, but that little hook at the end zipped the video into inspirational territory. I feel like I can use this as inspiration to pump up my own guitar skills. Thanks, Sammy G!
Speaking of guitar/brass crossovers, there's a cool Trent Hamilton video where he shows the relative pitch distance each of the valves gives you and shows how combinations of valves don't line up with guitar frets, which is why valved brass need tunable valves.
I hear you on the trumpet. One of my favorite songs of all times is Hands by Moving Mountains- the way the trumpet (and some other brass) comes in on the crescendo absolutely makes the song soar.
The trumpet bit was really cool for me, I have played a lot of trumpet in my past and still dable with it from time to time, and yeah it was cool that you were able to figure out how it makes sound in an hour

I once played a gig with this band where the guitarist was playing a brand new $1000 guitar, he went to do a guitar flip and it fell off the strap and the headstock broke right off. It was one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen
My grandfather can whistle louder than anyone I’ve ever heard. As a kid, I could hear him whistle for me from blocks away and I don’t even think he uses his hand! So as a father of two myself, I also decided to finally learn it a few months ago. I still need to work on consistency, but the one time I really did it I had no idea I did it because it was so loud I basically deafened myself temporarily and my wife, who was sitting next to me and doesn’t have great hearing, assured me that I had done it. I basically only heard the echo of it in my house but it was like I had imagined it. Thankfully my kids are sound sleepers who sleep with loud white noise since we have a small house. 😂
5:02 haven´t played trumper in....ever. But that explanaition makes me imagine it´s in it´s own way, similar to playing pinch harmonics in a guitar, cause each one needs your picking to be precisely on one spot and can be easily messed up
I made the first move back in the 90s with one of my first guitars. No strap locks, though. I have had to screw my head (guitar head) back together because the guitar went straight to the floor head first.
I did the guitar spin when I was a kid after seeing Steve Vai do it. I think he pushed it backwards though. It was pretty cool the first 5 times before it went flying.
Definitely have been to a local show and the guitarist did the flip, and definitely watched the screw dislodge, but it was the other one than you did on yours
I practiced the hamboning on both sides to the tune of We will rock you since it’s the same basic rhythm and consistent all the way through. Seems like a good skill to continue building especially for the casual musician. I can see myself sitting around a campfire or similar setting with my friends and if I’m not playing some basic guitar I could or somebody else could do this and just sing together. That’s as far as I’ve gotten so far but I’m tempted to learn the guitar swing trick too 😂 This was a really cool video concept man.
As a former trumpet player (also French horn) before moving briefly to electric bass then electric guitar, this video made my day. Watching you try and play the trumpet made me giggle! I may never play guitar at a level that even approaches your ability (or any other TH-camr's for that matter), but I'll always have the satisfaction of knowing that my rudimentary trumpet playing skills from high school marching band would win that category. BTW, every newbie trumpet player learns to play "Taps" (because it has the easiest fingering for a newbie) the same as every newbie guitarist (of my era) learned to play "Smoke on the Water".

The guitar flip is considerably easier if you throw it the opposite direction (bottom first) - as shown at 0:12 - though I would throw it using the body and not the neck as throwing it by the neck seems to make the orbit a bit squiffy. It also tends to look a lot smoother bottom-first, and from what I’ve seen, slightly less people seem to break their guitars this way than by trying the “neck first” method. 😂🙌🏻
I have never been able to play the guitar, despite giving it a real go. I've always managed the swingy-instrument-on-a-strap thingy really well though, so I guess we're evenly matched with that instrument.

Hello as a guitarist and, trumpet play yes I can play both states guitar first. I just have to say that for just learning that is an hour it sounded great it is better than some people who have played for longer. You’re great.
I've been a trombone player as well as a guitar player for many years and recently decided to relearn trumpet (I say relearn because I learned it one summer in 6th grade and never picked it up again). Already playing trombone definitely helped a lot. Quick tip for making sound is say "M" and use that embouchure shape to make your lips buzz. Lips should be roughly 50/50 upper and lower lip but er on the side of more upper lip. Also for notes above high concert F (the G on top of the staff in trumpet music) you want to arch your tongue to increase air speed and hit higher partials more easily. Oh one more thing try to use as little pressure on the mouthpiece as possible.
A tip for the trumpet ( From a beginning Band Top student) the way you did it was perfect, aside from rolling your lips in. so what you can do is place the bottom lip below the top lip and create a very narrow slit of air. this should give you a sound that sounds like a mosquito when put on your mouthpiece. ok, the zoom composite at the beginning is pretty slick. i think you're just using native resolution to pan out, but i remember when these shots were difficult for hollywood. well done, eh!
Buzzing your lips and keeping the corners of your mouth tight are the way to go as far as the trumpet goes. Always be mindful of how you're causing higher notes to come out, as that should be accomplished through the speed of the air you're moving and not through pressure. If you see marks on your lips from pressing the mouth piece into your face, you're pressing too hard. Also, start with notes under second line G and play LOTS of long tones, focusing on keeping your tone quality steady. This helps build up stamina and keeps you from developing bad habits. Hope you go back to it at some point, it's a fun instrument! And if you get really invested, I highly recommend investing in "Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet". Great exercises designed to help you improve, it's referred to in a lot of circles as the Trumpet Bible. lol
Now you gotta learn the reverse guitar flip...that way you can throw it back over your shoulder, catch it and then send it back over top, like Cinderella in Shake Me (~ 3:06)
Nobody was better at the guitar flip than Tom Keifer and the late Jeff LeBar of 80's rock band Cinderella. They're synchronization of the guitar flip took it to an all new level of badass.
I think the guitar flip looks way cooler and smoother (not to mention easier possibly) if you sling it in the opposite direction, so you push it down from the headstock area and have it flip around your body and return to front from over your shoulder. The guys in Cinderella always did it this way back in the day and it always looked so seamless. (See their video for "Shake Me" to see them do it a couple times mid-song.)
@@dfarr6518 Trevor doesn't actually exist but rather he is the imaginary musician who encompasses all the awful characteristics of musicians I have met in the past and don't want to actually name. I think his first appearance was in the "Oddly Satisfying things only musicians can appreciate" video.
If your strap screw comes out try filling the hole first with cotton from a cotton ball and then saturate the cotton with super glue. Let it harden and then tap the drill out. I tried this reattaching the striker plate to a door frame. So far it has worked.

Ahahaha yes the screw coming out. I ended up throwing mine across the room in my earlier years. That guitar went through much there was only the neck left of it which I held onto for a long time. Until gremlins stole it or something no idea what happened to it. I love the last bit with the spoon hahaha I have to give that a try next time I get the rust out.

Okay I’m a trumpet player and I ain’t great but I’m just going to tell you that to be able to play a middle c (trumpet is in the key of b flat) within only a couple minutes is actually really good. Like REALLY good. The difference between guitar /woodwinds/percussion and brass is that, like that hamboning thing you did, our body is our instrument. By this I mean we don’t have a string or reed or something like that to vibrate for us to make sound. We do that all on our own by vibrating out lips together and using them to make sound waves. TLDR, great job that’s some great progress and I hope you keep up the great work and continue the playing trumpet!

Flipping the guitar is like working a hula-hoop. You have to add centrifugal force by swinging your body a bit.
Centrifugal force is an apparent force, therefore you cannot add it. You can only sense it's apparent effects.

@@dfarr6518 Trevor doesn't actually exist but rather he is the imaginary musician who encompasses all the awful characteristics of musicians I have met in the past and don't want to actually name. I think his first appearance was in the "Oddly Satisfying things only musicians can appreciate" video.

If your strap screw comes out try filling the hole first with cotton from a cotton ball and then saturate the cotton with super glue. Let it harden and then tap the drill out. I tried this reattaching the striker plate to a door frame. So far it has worked.

Ahahaha yes the screw coming out. I ended up throwing mine across the room in my earlier years. That guitar went through much there was only the neck left of it which I held onto for a long time. Until gremlins stole it or something no idea what happened to it. I love the last bit with the spoon hahaha I have to give that a try next time I get the rust out.
The way you bashed the rotating drumstick out of your hand sending it flying is exactly what I experienced on accident, denting the flawless CAR-finish of my Gretsch 😅

Okay I’m a trumpet player and I ain’t great but I’m just going to tell you that to be able to play a middle c (trumpet is in the key of b flat) within only a couple minutes is actually really good. Like REALLY good. The difference between guitar /woodwinds/percussion and brass is that, like that hamboning thing you did, our body is our instrument. By this I mean we don’t have a string or reed or something like that to vibrate for us to make sound. We do that all on our own by vibrating out lips together and using them to make sound waves. TLDR, great job that’s some great progress and I hope you keep up the great work and continue the playing trumpet!
This makes me wanna finally tackle sweep picking. I might do a Livestream just grinding it for hours.
