It’s been a couple of years but I used to work with an 1178 daily. They absolutely nailed the tone & behavior while adding features… for 1000’s less. I sometimes hear subtle differences between the AS stuff the gear it’s emulating… perhaps due to aging of parts etc. Not this time though… Wow. It’s a sound I know extremely well.
Yea, a "real" compressor from. 20 years ago may sound sound slight different simply due to the age of the components. That's the beauty of analog, every piece has it's own unique sound. no two are the same
The uncompressed tracks "sounded" to have greater characteristics of raw material. So to say the effects processing made it sound better is dependent on the mixing/mastering/production context. Nonetheless, the compression sounded good. I plan to review the related sessions. Thanks!
I was hoping you'd redline, bury the needles into submission and then play with the blend. Distort the input. Push all the ratio buttons in. Record it as you lower it into a vat of liquid nitrogen, then smack it with a sledge hammer.

It would be nice to have separate attack and release for each channel so you could do fast comp into slow comp serial comp for vocals.
The AS78 is made true to the original 1178 which does not have a separate attack & release for each channel
@@MixingMusicAnalog It seems like their updated version is even better than the original 1178 as it adds a wet/dry blend and side chain HPF.
