I have been looking at that mount for my 2005 SIlverado and you answered all of my questions and doubts about that mount. I wasn't sure how that connected !! Thanks !! and keep CB ALIVE!
Excellent straight forward video, this took the guess work out of the install. I went to Right Channel Radio and found the complete package for my 06, thanks for the information.
Great video!! Thanks for putting this up. I was in limbo on where to go with a hood channel mount on my 2003 Silverado until I caught your instructional video. I got one and got it in last night. Using it for my 2 meter antenna. Thanks again 👍
Glad it helped - good luck with the installation. Not sure if you saw it or not but I used this method to mount my CB - th-cam.com/video/gXZlMnSMgcU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Z-db6lzERsPIlPpw
Good information on the antenna mount. On another subject; after watching your last video, I ordered one of the Taotronics lamps like you use. WOW!! I absolutely love that thing. Variable light shades and adjustable brightness as well as rotating capabilities makes it my favorite lamp. It's made tying my crappie jigs a LOT easier to see what I'm doing. LOL Thanks for that. I would have never seen those without your video post.
Damn that's a clean install. Nice set-up. I recently got the firering cable and stud with a 4' antenna for my 97 Blazer that's going to hook to a Midland 1001LWX. Made my own custom mount to put on the front fender and everything's gonna look mightly slick when all is said and done. Be safe out there.
Hope it makes for a smoother install. Just changed out my rig for a full size radio and came up with this no drill mount if interested - th-cam.com/video/gXZlMnSMgcU/w-d-xo.html
@@TigerCreekFarm just checked that out. Love the videos. I actually have the president McKinley and a single din mount rodeo installed in the factory double din mount. It’s a pretty sweet set up. Thanks again for the vids I’ll be watching them as you release them!
Just bought and installed one of these mounts on my truck after watching this video. Wondering how it is holding up after you've had it installed for a while. Is it still holding up well? Thanks!
I can honestly say that it has exceeded my expectations. I have not had any problems and it has held up very well. I hit a few tree limbs with it daily and no issues.
How is your transmit and reception now? And your SWRs? Ive got the same truck and set up you do, just deciding which c.b. to pull the trigger on still.
Thank you for the response ...I have bought a Uniden PC78LTX-T....that c.b.world peaked and tuned :)..hopefully I will get good SWRs with the 4 foot Francis hot stick! If not I'll buy a tuneable tip Firestick...thanks again ...
@@TigerCreekFarm everything I priced out is way cheaper than flying jay or the T/A truck stops. What CB do you have? And is it hard to turn the antenna?
I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado z71 I mounted an antenna in the same spot as this video and let me tell you IT SUCKED! Being that close to the cab robbed my receive and transmit big time and my swr sucked! So I just moved it down over the fender about the middle of the hood on the same side and boom! Better swr and I got out and received a lot better. This placement of an antenna makes zero sense to me.
@@TigerCreekFarm be nice to know why everyone thinks this spot is so great. Your antenna should be away from the cab. At least if you want to talk and hear far distances. And my antenna makes a Whistle sound in this spot as well. So annoying

"Character building." That usually translates as "Cussin' required."
Great video!! Thank you,Ron
Thanks this should help me with the gmc sierra
If you do a similar setup I would suggest adding a heavy duty spring - like I went back and did.

Sorry, forgot to mention I.m using the fire ring 9 foot coax..
Do you have a link to the mounting bracket?
These are vehicle/year specific - www.rightchannelradios.com/products/chevy-gmc-hood-mount-2002
@@TigerCreekFarm alright, thank you!
Does this work on the 99-04 silverados, because they too are the same as the 05- early 07s?
The truck I did this on is a 2004.
Thanks.
I got my mount for my astro from the same place. What brand of wire do you use?
Firestik FireRing CB Coax with FME - 9'
@@TigerCreekFarm thanks!
Thought about doing this for hf antenna. Just curious if the coax would take full legal limit of 1500 watts?
Not sure. I would contact the good folks at Right Channel Radios - they would certainly have an answer for you.
Rg58 coax takes about 1800 watts but your alternator on the hand may not cooperate

I have gear wrenches that ratchet for those tight spaces, they are flat not much thicker than a box end.
