Great video Mark . I'm going to ditch my CB for a GMRS radio and then just get a hand held CB for those who are not on GMRS . Take care sir and catch you on your next video. I wish you guys lived in Utah still so we could meet up and do some off roading.
I say go for it. We keep a CB in the Jeep because we have a lot of friends who still run it. However, I cant say we will be adding a CB in the 4runner most likely GMRS or Ham. I think the units are just nicer all around. CB has a special place in my heart, but I think its less practical in todays times when compared to the new GMRS MicroMobile units.
If you take the cap off at the beginning, you'll get nowhere with the tunable tip model. This is because the SWR changes a fair bit with the Firestik when you put it back on. Rotate the whole lot with the end cap in place.
This has not been the case on my specific setups, but SWR is high sensitive and variable for each vehicle. So this sounds like good advice to me! Thank you!
@@EmbarkWithMark I have my antenna on the hood fender on my Chevy Silverado. Seems to work pretty good. I also use a Stryker a10 mag mount and that also works very well. Nice 1.1 swr on my stryker
Your honesty is very welcomed, thank you for the video.
Thank you! I really appreciate these types of comments. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Dang man! I didn't know there was so much to CB's! Thanks for doing this! Saving all these in a playlist for when I get one!
“Don’t do it in front of your house”. AKA I’m going off road for awhile! 😃Thanks for the info Mark!
Exactly! Any excuse, lol! Glad you found the video helpful.

if you wanted to change the swr without cutting the wire ( you dont cut the fiberglass) you move the mount up or down
True, I could move the mount up/down. I think most do not have that option.
Never the less, good idea!
Thanks for the education ! ✌️🇬🇧
Any time!
How was/is your ground plane on that mount ?
It's alright, not the best honestly. Jeeps don't really have a great area to mount. But this works well enough.

Or you could move your antenna to another place on the truck and your swr will drop to 1.1
Maybe. There’s not to many places on Jeeps. With a fiberglass top and all, but yea 1:1 is ideal.

I have a question, sir. When I try tuning my cb I cal it to set on fwd. Then switch it to ref it stay in the red what I'm I doing wrong
You may have a short in the cable going to the antenna, or the CB antenna doesn’t have a good ground to the body.
Do I need that tool if my CB has a screen? It’s tells me that same info.
The SWR meter on your radio should be good enough. I would use it.
@@EmbarkWithMark oh okay thanks, wish you had shown how to trim the antenna lol I can’t find videos on it. I’d have to cut too much
@@Jr-eu9ex you just cut it down a little bit. Go slow.
I should have shown it, but my antenna just didn’t need it.
@@EmbarkWithMark yeah it would not make sense for you to cut it so no worries and would you say cut about 1/4 inch every time? Or less?
I’d go less than that. If you can maybe 1/16 or an 1/8 at the most.
SWR of 1.5 is a 3% loss.
This I did not know. Thank you!
