Having worked at Ford in Canada previously, I have to say this Chinese made Ford is built much better than most of the Ford's we used to sell that came from North American factories, and the build quality is close to Japanese or Korean quality, but... The thing is loaded with features and is a lot cheaper than it's Japanese and Korean rivals, what's more, the design is more like the Korean built, European styled cars from Kia & Hyundai. The Territory looks a lot like a Range Rover Evoque. The interior is fantastic, with a panoramic sunroof, 360 camera, leather everywhere, heated and cooled seats, ADAS, etc, and it handles pretty well for a crossover. So far, it's been flawless. Some of the Chinese vehicles from BYD, Chery and Greely are very stylish and the interiors are incredible for the price. Doug is a contrarian, and he makes7 good arguments. Jaguar (JaGUar?) needs attention if it wants to become competitive. An electric XJ220? That doesn't sound half bad. Is it gonna take the same path as Cadillac? Only time will tell The XTerra was a great point, and even now it would be a good idea imo, only if it follows from the 1st gen steps. The Suzuki Jimmy would be and actual blast in the US.
Everyone would have started talking about Jaguar again if their newest ad campaign showcased their cool history while presenting new concept electrified versions of each. Maybe they could have even got Clarkson to do the narration and say his signature "Jaaaaag" line. Bringing in a well loved automotive icon and paying respect and homage to their history while simultaneously inviting in the future. A limited production electric E-Type, S-Type electric SUV (kind of like the Mustang Mach-E), and a Maybach competitor electric XJ. This company would have been so back. Now they have done a scorched earth campaign on their entire lineage and are starting a new generic post-modern car company from scratch to compete with well established brands. They'll be bankrupt and gone by the end of the decade.
If you didn't know what Jaguar was, you'd think that commercial and logo was advertising some luxury homeopathic makeup line. Sure they'll reveal a concept car the next day, but production cars almost never look like the concept, if they go to production at all.
Personally I think it's genius, and not just because I'm a Jag-man, but I can't even remember any time a car company has gotten so much free press, ever.
For the rebranding of Jaguar: excellent job, if the goal was to make people talk about it. But unlike other industries, such as fashion, you're not selling an insubstantial dream. We are talking about cars, and as expensive as an apartment in some versions. You can tell marketing fairy tales as much as you want, but if it's bad to drive or falls apart after 6 months, you're done. Advertising campaigns about portraying a brand as revolutionary, completely different from all others, require you to keep your promise. Do they really have a winning card, something never seen before? We will see. In the meantime they gave us a high Trash moment; it looks like the trailer for Zoolander 3 made with AI.
"Copy nothing" meanwhile they did a super corporate-feeling "artsy" commercial and dumbed down their logo to be absolutely soulless like every other company did like 15 years ago
The Jaguar ad is weird, yes, but the whole world seems to be talking about it. Jaguar's lack of relevance is manifest in that everyone complaining about it seems to mourn the fact that they don't make the E-Type (or here in this discussion the XJ220) or interiors with walnut any more. Jaguar's future surely isn't looking backwards unless it want to turn into Morgan or something niche. That ad smacks of desperation, along with bad grammar.

They should have brought Jag under Land Rover and spent marketing on rebranding the whole group as LRJ - combined service and dealers. nobody outside car people know they are owned by the same tata parent company and rightfully so. Jag could have been the prem sport car arm of the group. Wasted opportunities. Plenty of examples they could have modeled their approach on.
Doug is a contrarian, and he makes7 good arguments. Jaguar (JaGUar?) needs attention if it wants to become competitive. An electric XJ220? That doesn't sound half bad. Is it gonna take the same path as Cadillac? Only time will tell
The XTerra was a great point, and even now it would be a good idea imo, only if it follows from the 1st gen steps. The Suzuki Jimmy would be and actual blast in the US.
The actual cars in the Jaguar commercial:
Everyone complaining about Jaguar was NOT buying a Jaguar... so...... 🤷🏽♂️
@@kkjoe1911 well, if they weren't purchasing Jags before, they're definitely not now.
Jag is going elektrick and the new logo fits it more
1:06:18 WHAT ABOUT ASPARK THE OWL 😞😞😞
The Atlas is the Terramont in other markets.
in defense of teh Brasil auto maker, they only made an RS version of the Renault Sandero (Dacia), a hot hatch
I remember and not long ago: It was a certain brand of non alcohol beer...
Didn't work for them!
Convertible f type was next toy on list. You couldn't give me one currently.
Filippo is the type of guy to go by Phil and kinda like it.
Why does the crew think Ferrari cares about used car values? As a business, it's a lot better to sell 1,000 cars at $500k rather than 100 cars at $1m.
That Jag advert should be titled... RuPauls Jag Race!! Shantay Away!! 😂😂😂
Brilliant!
Doug is the type of guy to accept a shaving product sponsorship after he stops using shaving products
12:57 do we have Ai Doug doing ad reads? Genius if so!
Wow another company going "up market" what a crazy concept from jaguar (literally every single manufacturer has tried to go up market)
And they all failed because they had cars in their ads instead men in dresses 😂
Kennan is the type of guy to wash his hands after taking a shower
David Coverdale drove Jaguar in a lotbof Whitsnake videos.
Why is nobody asking this about the commercial - WHERE'S THE CAR?!?!
