Howdy Folks! I just wanted to add, that on this day I caught well over 40 crappie! They were all very small (even smaller than those in the video!) I thought it would be boring watching me catch small crappie after crappie, so I only included the better ones in the video. I wanted to add this because I didn't want you to get turned off by this technique thinking I only caught the crappie shown in the video. This is a great technique, and I encourage everyone to give it a shot! Thank you so much for watching and God bless!
Great video as usual...never been crappie fishing so to me it all looks like a lot fun...fishing is fishing, big or small....they are all good'ens if you..LOVE IT....
Great video I have two questions why don't you use a slip cork and why do you never use a curly tail grub? I really enjoy your videos keep up the good work.
Just wondering, are you left or right handed, have seen you throw a cast net left handed and cast a rod right handed? Wonder if 'ole Elmo ever noticed?
Richard is putting out fishing videos that 25 years ago, would have made him a ton of money on TNN or similar channels. Best fishing channel on youtube!
Richard I appreciate you taking your time to show some of the techniques you use , I too have been fishing for the past 50 years and love crappie fishing the best, but I also enjoy bass , catfish shellcrackers, warmouth , bluegill and on and on keep doing wht ya do God bless you and yours.
Couldn’t agree more with your comment about keeping it simple. Fishing for any species has gotten too commercialized. This comes from an old retired fishing tackle rep. Please keep up the good work that you do. God bless you Richard.
I love to buy gear as much as the next guy but Richard's videos, often shown using vintage reels and average rods, makes me rethink whether I truly need some of the stuff I buy. Thanks for keeping things real Richard.
Richard ive been watching ur videos for a few months now and personally love your crappie and catfish videos but ive literally watched every video youve made and uploaded even the first ones but i gotta say the ending of every video is the best it puts a smile on my face vo fishin when ya can because its good frrr ya love it keep makeing the best fishing videos
I'm glad you said that Richard; fishing has become over commercialized. Lure manufacturers want you to think you have to have the latest greatest lure to catch fish or you'll be left behind, but that's just not the case. I've got some old wooden plugs that will catch just as many or possibly even more fish than the latest high tech Super Wobble Lipped plug on the market. Shoot, I've seen some nice Bass caught on deep runner that looked like a peanut(exactly like a peanut with hooks on it).
Good job buddy love it, keep em coming I do alot of creek, 25hp. Boat 16' would like to take a go pro and see what happens I like the spots, large mouth and smallies, we got a breed that's a cross between a large mouth and spot that make a what I call blue creek fish diff. pattern blue color some rough tounge some not.And got the spots mouth. Some red eyed some not crazy.
Amen Mr Gene ! I am in total agreement with you about advertising and marketing making the sport more complicated than it really is . You show in all your videos that it doesn't have to be . That one of the many reasons why I enjoy your videos. Thank you .
I really enjoy the light tackle he uses to catch his fish! And the respect he has for the fish on the catch and release. Simple fishing that’s effective. Great job buddy. ROLL TIDE!!!!!!
Good job with the Cork and jig Mr. Richard Gene. Lot of times when the they are holding at 10 or 11 ft. over some logs - brush etc i will use a slip bobber set at about 9 to 10 ft. and wear them out w/out getting hung up so bad. Great video as usual. Keep em coming.
I use a very similar technique with clients during the summer except I use my dipping rods and pencil corks between 7 - 10 feet down. Takes a novice about 2 minutes to master it. Catches a ton of fish.
I’m a new subscriber to your channel. Thouroughly enjoying it. Appreciate all the details re equipment, weather, technique and “tricks of the trade”. My question- I use 4 lb fluorocarbon line for most of my Crappie fishing. The colored Mr Crappie line must not be a problem or you would’nt use it. Do you use it to see the line easier, or what? Thanks!
Something you would probably enjoy having is a bimini top when you get into a shower or the sun is beating down. Have one on my boat which is a Triton 1653 SS and it can be a life changer when needed. I seldom use, but dang sure like it when needed. Thanks for another great video!
A crappie is a crappie no matter where you find him .... Putting that bait in front of him and presentation will do it every time .... Thanks for all you’ve done ... Take care of that wrist ... Thanks for sharing....FISH ON .!!!
I agree with the whole keep it simple thing and that it's become all about making a buck. Thanks for staying grounded. Your vids are the best. Never missed one since I found your channel. You always make it feel like us viewers are out fishing with an ol' budy.
Another master piece...!!! Thanks Richard u have the best fishin channel on you tube ..And remember go fishin when ya can cuz its goooood fuur..ya cant wait gor some fall crappie vids
Hey Richard! Another great video showing another great technique. I have been fishing that technique for so long I can't honestly remember when I started using it. We always called it "JIG-A-BOBBIN" Thanks again.
I thought you were going to make the video a little different by fishing on a house boat. As far fishing I use what I have I dont care for all the hi tech gadgits they have. Like you said the simpler the better. Keep up the great work on the vids. Waiting on the next one to come out. And remember go fishin cuz its good fer ya. I agree 110%.
Great video Richard thanks again and you are 100 percent write about fishing you can go broke buying fishing equipment it is simple I'm guilty of over spending at times but I really love fishing a lot no I don't have a 20000 dallar boat or higher just a 1990 champion and a flat bottom boat and a 15 horsepower on it love it though God bless you and your family Richard
Mr. Gene, I really enjoy your videos. I am trying but have a long way to go to hope to ever catch fish on a regular basis. I am hoping that you will answer a question for me. You told us that you had set to bobber to about a 5' depth. I am wondering how far below the jig the crappie were. I have found schools in 14 to 18'. How deep would you fish using todays method? Thanks ever so much. Jon
Hay Richard have you tried Stren Crappie Mono it has a small diameter for its strength low memory and I haven't even tried your soaking it in water trick
Headed to lake Sinclair here in Georgia tonight. I ordered me some of those Slab tail jigs and hoping to put some paper lips in the grease. We’re going to try the slab tails under a float around dock lights. Thanks for all your work and stay well my friend.
I will say this I think the good Lord above for blessing this earth with such a great man like you....Richard the Ole fishing machine I truly love you brother you will always be my icon in life.....I hope some day I am just as great as you....love you brother remember your Ole buddy from hartselle al....I will never forget that day we got too see each other I waited all day too meet you and it was well worth ever minute and second and hour I waited on you brother you are a blessing to this earth....don't worry Ole machine God's got a lake for you up there and that's a promise....I love you and your family God bless you all...you need me for anything you let me no I will be there...
really wish you would show in slow motion what kind and how you tie your knot on 4 pound line, I can tie 6lb. and have no problem with knot breaking but when I tie 4lb. I can't get a knot to hold to good. would you do a video on your knot tying please.
Loved your ending...aka Truth Bomb. Just like Hunting, its been commercialized. Have to have this, hunt/fish with this Rifle/RodnReel. Like my Grandfather would say, "Sure a New and Modern Rifle and Cartridge would MAYBE be better. 30-30 isnt the best out there, BUT THE DEER that have been tagged by the 30-30...NEVER NEW THE DIFFERENCE! Like fishing..all those fish caught by your Grand Ma and her home made CANE POLE. How many times has she been skunked? And YOU?...Point made! One CAVEAT though....She did get sprayed by a Skunk while fishing! That was her BAIT!!!! LOL That will never be forgotten....was some funny stuff!
Please put the life jacket on, you fish alone to much and Im older also and would hate to loose such a great and giving person to some stupid accident.
Loved the Video Mr. Richard. I have been watching your videos since you started. You really have a teaching gift, and I have learned many things from you. I have a request. Would you include in your vids how you locate fish on your fish finder. Thank you for what you do. My sons and I have become better fisherman by trying techniques that you introduced to us. God Bless!
Howdy Folks! I just wanted to add, that on this day I caught well over 40 crappie! They were all very small (even smaller than those in the video!) Thanks richard gene! We love your videos and appreciate your wisdom!!
I love to buy gear as much as the next guy but Richard's videos, often shown using vintage reels and average rods, makes me rethink whether I truly need some of the stuff I buy. Thanks for keeping things real Richard.
Michael B. They caught fish long ago so why would it change now? That’s what I think to myself anyway.
Yeah, but it's still fun to buy though. Toys.
Another great video Richard
You're simply the best Richard. Thank you!

What's wrong with the wrist, Richard? Bad case of poison ivy or did you burn/cut yourself? Keep the enjoyable videos coming!
Keep them videos coming, cuz it's good for ya!
