Are you seriously so lazy that you did no homework to research the song upon a weak review of forgettable gibberish? You actually said the song distracted you from thoughts of donuts? Isn't that special!
They are in my opinion one of the best bands ever, not just rock or progrock bands, one of the best bands of all time period. They are three extremely talented guys playing their asses off on every song. If you’ve seen them live the play just as well and just as hard live as they do in the studio.
Alex plays the shit out of this. Just to let u know Subdivisions was off Signals 1982 Grace Under Pressure 1984 some songs Distant Early Warning, Red Sector A. Afterimage are a few my favorites Red Sector A is deep great reaction stay safe
I was 18 when I bought Grace Under Pressure in 1984. I still have it, in addition to the audiophile vinyl they released a few years ago. It is a great album. Rush is The band.
I never understood how Lerxst felt the guitar was taking a backseat during the "synth" era of Rush. In my opinion. Signals, GUP and Power Windows showed some of his most creative and dynamic work. I believe the first time I heard it live was the R30 tour and it was one of my favorite songs from the entire show - just spectacular, thematic and such a great mood, even in that very festive setting. Great reaction, Tone.
This song is superb, it is fast, urgent, beautiful, melancholic and sad, all at the same time and the lyrics in the chorus managed to bring a tear to me eye. Alex's solo is amazing, one of his best.
Whenever someone mentions Rush, this is the first song I think of. To me, it is the diamond in the crown of Rush’s catalog. It’s power and message are transcendent, and it is one of the greatest songs ever written. Alex’s solo is amazing, Neil’s drumming is as tight as it gets. But what I find particularly moving in this song is the way Geddy walks down that last “Brother can you spare another war?” line. The emotion in that brings me to tears every time. The Garden, from Clockwork Angels is the only other Rush song that hits me quite like this.
I listen to this album at least twice a month in my car, and this song has only in recent years begun to hit me in the heart. Even as a cold war kid, I didn't have the life experience until the last ten years to be able to feel how heavy this song is.
For me, it may even be my favourite Lifeson album...then I was 16 in 1984, and the 80's have a certain nostalgia for me. The guitar playing is so good throughout the whole album. Solos, power chords, arpeggios all of it.
When it comes to rush after 1982 oh, this is one of my favorite songs! It ranks right up there with red sector a, and to throw it twenty-odd years later the garden. Just an amazing track. Thanks for this reaction brother. Keep going down that rabbit hole
You are, by far, the best RUSH reactor I've seen. Your comments are accurate, informative, and right on point, and your enthusiasm is as infectious as the Delta variant of COVID! Keep up the great work!
Great reaction! Alex is fire on this track, the solo is sick but what Neil is doing just awesome! Check out the version from the live R30 show. R30 is recorded very well and very clean (my favorite live recording of theirs) and Alex's solo on The Spirit of Radio is a jaw dropper!!!
Guitar solo? Have you heard "Freewill"? He RIPS on that song!! By the way, this is one of my favorite songs, Between The Wheels! I love the way Geddy sings this...he just really nails those high notes and the passion and attitude he brings to those lyrics! Incredible Rush song! Thank you! Yes! Grace Under Pressure has tons of great music on it!
@@lewisbernstein4272 sooooo true, I just watch a video of it lately form the R30 show (Between the wheels live), watch at 4 minutes 12 seconds, and focus on bass.... Mind blowing, boom !
@@tonebonetelevision watch the live version from the R30 tour, focus on bass at 4m12s... This song is one of my fav, I've been a Rush fan since Signals, saw them 16 times, "Between the Wheels" is so underated !
I don't believe Rush played this live (much) at the time, but they brought it back for the R30 tour (2004). I remember it was near the top of lists of songs people wished they would play live, and they took notice. (Losing It was up there too, but that didn't happen until they had someone on violin.)
You're totally right about Alex holding back. To me, he was the driving force in the band in the early stages, 1974-1978 in particular. If you listen to 2112 or watch his live La Villa Strangiato perfornces circa 1978, you can see he was the band leader at the time. Give the first side of 2112 (studio) a listen, and you'll gain a whole new appreciation for Alex Lifeson's greatness.
I’m so glad you commented on, “Losing It”! I’ve always felt guilty for loving that song and I’m not an unhappy or unpleasant person. That song is just, ..............Beautiful! Also, I understand that it was 35 years after song was recorded that it was played live. I would have payed Big bucks to see that live. I’m delightfully enjoying your Rush rabbit hole dive! Thanks so much!
Probably my favourite solo, he seems to drag Neil along with him (I think it's more apparent on the Snakes & Arrows concert version) rather than Neil laying the beat and Alex fitting a solo in (not that they do that anyway) but this really highlights a deep inter-play and composition between the 2 of them. It really highlights how in-sync they are, and once I heard this I started recognising it in pretty much all of Alex's solos there on in.
Grace Under Pressure is one of my favorite Rush albums and this is one of my favorite songs. Distant Early Warning and Red Sector A are also amazing songs.
This song was a reaction to the news of the day, ( Cold War, Contras , etc), and how people just sit and watch on 📺. The song from this album that you have already heard was Kid Gloves, check out Losing It from Signals, beautiful and heartbreaking.
My history with Rush started from GUP album....and it was a shock to see this album was ranked top 1 or 2 in US at that time without any single hits at that time. Alex guitar sound was so unique and I have been loving it so much. Nothing like any other guitar sound in other rush albums. As an album, GUP, Power Window, Roll the bones, Presto are my favorite albums.
The Chorus and Instrumental on this song flow SO well and I think you are right that Neil's signature Ride Cymbal work is the key to that. At a live show, Alex's guitar would growl so menacingly it would fill the amphitheater on this song. He is a master at using those effects to full advantage!
Another classic and alex amazing solo that fits the song. Played this to death before going out drinking etc back in the mid 80s in my GUP tour shirt brought to me from the states.
the reason why you're getting stressed out is the time signature. It's alternating between one bar of 4/4 and one bar of 15/16. 15/16 is just one 16th note short of the standard 4/4, so it feels like the next meaure is starting slightly sooner than you think it should. It makes it feel like the song is moving on before you want it to, just like the lyrics describe the world moving on even if you're not ready for it to. It is nothing short of pure genious songwriting.
´I know nothing ´! That is harsh, you know good music man! And yes, I remember when this song came out and I was listening to it, I was stressed too, at 14 years old! But that is the point of the song. This album has great solos and is under appropriated. Thanks man, great review, I watched it a few times.
A great comment about Alex , Eddy Vanhalen was asked what is is it like to be one of th3 greatest Guitarists in the world , his reply was I do not know ask Alex Liefson
Grace Under Pressure was their first album not produced with Terry Brown , They got Steve Lillywhite to produce but he pulled out at the last minute ,they ended up with Supertramp associate Peter Henderson.
Further to my previous point, a natural next option to me would be "The Weapon". Lyrical version is absolutely fine but you will feel compelled to watch it live (at which point, add "Count Floyd" to your search)
Fun fact. There are only 2 songs on Grace Under Pressure that mention the title of the song- Kid Gloves and The Enemy Within (mentioned only twice during the song). 😉
One of my all-time favs!!! Alex plays his ass off on that solo.
Alex Lifeson is the G.O.A.T🐐🎸
Hey Sal, what solo does Alex NOT play his ass off in??? hahahaha
Alex is one of the greatest players ever, my idol
Arguably his best guitar solo...among his finest.👍
Play it again, Lerxst! :D
The most technically proficient band in the world. There has never been a band that has come close to this level of talent.
Thank you Rush fans for bringing this era of Rush greatness to my receptors! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
losing it, is a Rush song
So many lyrically deep songs to choose from. Far Cry will floor you. Well-done!

TONS of tension--release--tension--release in this song. One of their best.

Alex is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. He did so much to make Rush what it was.
This is one of the best Rush songs that doesn't get enough attention.
It's my second fav Rush song after The Camera eye
You are a true Rush fan... all Rush fans have to rewind and hear parts again!!
My #1
Followed by middle town dreams
Alex is a one of a kind
Alex Lifeson is a Guitar 🎸 god #1
Same and 3 Analog kid
Middletown Dreams is so good... as is Emotion Detector. Both very underrated.

Despite this being another synth heavy album, Alex is a monster on this record.
Agree completely. Kid Gloves is one of the best solos of his career imo.

The riff alone absolutely amasing
The Afterimage another great tune from Grace Under Pressure. Dedication to the late great Neil Peart Rest In Peace Brother.
I think it was the Snakes and Arrows tour where they played this - it was one of the last tours I saw them on any way. It is a stone cold masterpiece
I saw that show!!
Played it on R30, Snakes and then R40

Yes, and the slower tempo also in this particular song.

RUSH by far a stand alone band, untouchable. Phenomenal music and hugely talented.
