My favorite trick for when someone pops in for coffee is to say: Oh, you're just in time. I was about to make scones and coffee! The scones are in the oven before the coffee is ready, so before you know it 15 minutes for baking and oh, so yummy! Keep dried fruit on hand and you are all set. (my favorite is dried cherries.) it doesn't matter if you can't bake or if your recipe isn't the best, it always tastes good, fresh made! ❤🌅🌵

HINT!!! You mentioned in one of your Q&A videos how vanilla extract effects colors in icings. You may have heard of them but if not, I'll share this with you. The Watkins Store, or Watkins 1868 Gourmet Seasonings, Gourmet Spices - is online. My Mom (who is now passed) and myself have never bought extracts or spices, etc. from a grocery store. I've been using Watkins since I was married in 1966. Mom never bought any items which Watkins sold, from a grocery store. They just do not compare to Watkins Products. My HINT to you is Watkins sells CLEAR pure vanilla extract, as well as most any pure extracts you want and they are fabulous for baking. Anytime I make white cakes, or anything I don't want colored I always keep their clear vanilla extract on hand. Thought this might help you! Love is sent your way - - I love you and your channel. My quick desert is that I keep a pound cake in the freezer. When a guest pops in I slice it frozen, top with frozen berries and sweetened whipped cream. By the time coffee is ready, the cake is totally defrosted. If the cake looks a little dry, I make a simple syrup, add lemon juice (or your favorite liquor) after I take it off the heat and brush or drizzle the syrup over the cake to moisten then add the berry whip cream mixture. Yummy! Oh, you can always drizzle chocolate sauce over the top for the extra ordinary touch! ❤🌅🌵

I love your mother! Now I know where you get your good nature and enthusiasm. So funny you mentioned Arethusa Farms. I grew up in Litchfield and they use to deliver milk to our house and put in the in milk box on the porch. The milk was in bottles and in the winter, the milk would freeze some an push the paper lid up with the frozen milk. Also, this will tell you how times have changed and I guess how old I am (53 if you must know) but we would drive down to the farm and you went into this little room and they had reach in freezers with quarts of ice cream in them. They had Vanilla, Chocolate and Coffee flavors. You would take your ice cream, add up the total and they had a little cash box on a shelf and you would put your money in it and take whatever change you were due. There wasn't a soul in site. My how times have changed.

Don't forget to decorate with chocolate curls. I also use a 8" deep pie pan so that there's a thicker filling per slice. It's a holiday, so be generous! So yummy! Make two as everyone takes a slice! ❤🌅🌵

Good tip for boxed cake.. I do the same, skip the oil and substitute butter.. Also I add some melted chocolate if its chocolate cake and add a few drops of vanilla for vanilla cake.. Makes quite a difference and takes away the boxed taste

One evening I ordered it but the waiter returned to tell me that chef said he didn't have all the ingredients and it was too difficult to make anyhow. I was dumbfounded then the maitre d', whom I knew, came over to tell me that the Austrian chef had left and was replaced with an American who was trying to economize and to "simplify" the menu. Sad.The restaurant, which had been a fixture for over a century is now just a shadow of its former glory.

Granite aggressively drags anything you put onto it back to room temperature very quickly compared to most other work surfaces. Great for cooling down cookies, not great if you place a bag of ice down for 30 seconds. Could that be culprit? If so, I might have a solution. I have a built-in dishwasher, and when it's running, the countertop it's installed under gets very warm. Still not as warm as cake fresh from the oven, but it might give you a little more flexibility if you could start a load just as the cake goes into the oven, or even a little before that.
My children went to private school. We would be able to make cupcakes for their birthdays. It was so funny to me because I hate box cake but I had to make about 50 cupcakes because my children would give them to their whole class and all the staff. So I used box cake but I always made homemade butter cream icing in crazy colors. So every year the kids would ask “hey Mrs Gregor can you make your cupcakes? “ it was their favorite and they all loved them. So elevate the box with homemade icing and you’ll be a hit🤩
