Hey Chris, it's great seeing you getting into rockhounding! Here's a little advice to help you for your next run: Mining hard rock for quartz vugs will be a pain in your posterior, but root systems break down the surrounding rock while preserving and often 'grabbing' around the crystals. That's why you see other people have worked underneath trees (3:23 minutes into the video). Look for trees that have toppled recently, and give the roots a proper shake. Those will be the easiest crystals you ever find. The trench you started out with at the beginning of the video was probably dug because there used to be a tree there that toppled over (you can see it still lying there in the background). At 5:30 in the video you'll see that you have an unworked tree right behind you. That's a great place to dig. At 6:30 you'll see that there's roots all over when you start finding the good stuff. When you hit bedrock, start working the layer between the bedrock and the top soil. If there's lots of roots and uneven gravel size it's good ground so keep going. If there's little roots or too uniform gravel size the place has probably been worked already. Lastly, hammering/chiseling hard rock quartz can be dangerous, so it's wise to bring gloves, safety glasses and some basic medical supplies. I've heard stories of rockhounders getting an artery nicked by flying quartz chips and that's just no fun if you're 3 hours out in the bush.
I second the safety aspects. I had a piece of quartz hit me in the eye, caused a very painful cortical abrasion that luckily caused no lasting damage. Kept me in a dark room for about a week though.
@jasonbourne8452 I was using a pick axe while fixing railroad tracks, and a small piece of rock shot up, hit me right in my left front top tooth, and angled it in a bit. Dropped me too. Was such a shooting pain, lol.
Man.. you’re such a weapon. Been subscribed for ages and love every minute of it. Would kill to get out on a river with you to prospect one day. Would pay for the experience honestly… I’m from Nova Scotia, Canada and your videos inspired me to start prospecting and furthering my knowledge about gold in my local area. Love that you are an advocate for mental health and well being. Had my own hardships, same as many others out there… Getting back out to nature and getting excited again about things (gold, the river) brings me hope. Cheers from NS, Canada -Brian
WOW... So my biggest hiccup with this video is that I live in the black hills of South Dakota, where we have so many quartz that the Creek beds are literally made of quartz beds...so we get a couple of specs of gold for every 20 or so buckets of quartz sand LOL Another great video, so keep it up! If you need quartz and rose quarts for the shop hit me up for sure! I bring football sized specimens for lawn decor every time I go out 😂
Those are beautiful crystals, Chris! 😮🧐 I wonder if you had a spray bottle with water in it it might help? At least you can spray off an area that might be a plate of crystals. I agree that this is a place where you need to get back asap, as you just got the overburden off and was getting into the undisturbed area that held much more promise. Thanks for sharing and can't wait to see the follow up video! Blessings from Alabama ❤️
Chris, For your best crystals Do Not Rub the crystal faces. The dirt has silica in it and will scratch the perfect faces pulling them from virgin ground. Keep them pristine.
Very cool. I've found large clear crystal so clear I was told it was optical quality crystal and it resides less than a mile from my place. It was found on accident when ditching to put in water lines.
Looks like you found a great spot there! You found some nice crystals! The area where I live in Pennsylvania, USA, there is lots of quartz in the area, and some nice crystals.
Chris you would be smart I if You added a pint size pick to You Arsenal of tools half the size of a full size pick . The best probing bar that was a Drive shaft from a 1020 Ford solid carbon steel th point was like a needle it could bust quarts like it was nothing and when diging it had no propblem braking up HardPan . The rod was 1.3/8" round 5ft 6" long . And used it as a staff when hiking back in yes it has weight and your arms will big as your calfs the muscle above your Knees . 👍
Very helpfull I've found a quartz reef on my private property but so far just tiny little clear clusters hopefull that if I stick with it maybe they might get bigger :)
A lot of people over look the ones that are more on the flat side. Personally I like them the most for a necklaces. They lay flat on your chest. It's more comfortable. I will have to message you soon to talk about getting some of those from you. I use hemp and leather as my medium.

Me screaming NO!!!!!! When you said you might ruin that awesome tower of twisted crystal with the two points on top by cutting it shorter. LoL. Here in Washington we have lots of amazing places to dig and find quartz crystals. One of my favorite thing to go rock hounding for!
I may think off clear quartz wrong. My thought is clear is like transparent glass where you can see through it. Then there would be translucent where light passes through but not transparent, smoky quartz and amethyst. The third is opaque where light doesn’t pass through, Quartzite. I enjoy seeing you and Gadz work together. I still think you spell your name wrong.
Wehay can I now call you Mr Christal. The seam looks really promising, I wonder how deep iit goes and more to the "points" just how much over burden you will have move to get to the pay layer, it looks like you are literally following massive quartz which is great for discovering the pieces you want. Maybe if you go deep enough there will be gold too Did you ever find Gadzee?
