Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: That's a mighty big rock sack, sir!!! Just seeing all those pinolite makes me "Snoopy Dance"! (...imagine Peanuts' " theme song here.) 🥾🥾🥾🥾
For the first time ever, Dan, im officially jealous. You could have a 20-pound nugget, and I'd be happy for you but not jealous. But man, that view and to be in those mountains. Yep I'm jealous.
Thanks for taking the time to film, Dan! Thus allowing us to come along. Breathtaking is all I can say. The geology lesson was awesome. I could listen to you talk while seeing it, loved it. 👍 to the family, what a wonderful day in the life
I love rockhounding and prospecting for gold, but forget all of that I'd just love to be up there in the mountains where it's inaccessible except by helicopter and really dedicated people on foot.
I totally agree with the guy when he said pictures doesn't do it justice. It seems to be always that way when you find large mineral deposits. It's like you found the mind of the seven dwarfs off of the original Snow White, and there's some strange magic spell on it that makes it not come out in photos or film.
You never disappoint Dan. Ive loved your videos since the very first one. Glad to see you and your family enjoying your adventures together. I have a very old memory of my great great grandmother making me italian star soup.. on her wall in her kitchen was a picture of the family.. the frame was made from pino. They sell well. You should make some.
I've recently started watching your videos. I don't have mining knowledge, but I have always loved rocks & minerals, & have a couple of jars half full of tumbled stones that my father tumbled when we lived in AZ & some I got from stores offering them. They include agate, tigers eye in at least three colors (red, blue & black), Apache Tears & many others. We even found a geode once with what looked like amethyst inside. I love the beauty that Nature offers all around us, & I respect how carefully you treat the environment when you are out in the heat or cold running a sluice. I've panned a wee bit in the past & actually found a flake once (Yuba River in CA). I've seen the mass damage done in CA by big sluicing operations - there's even a state park commemorating one of the worst, that caused a town downriver (Yuba River) to be flooded during heavy storms. That's why I'm impressed with your care in mining gold, & I love that you love gemstones & minerals - they are beautiful surprises. I had never seen pinolite before this show & it kinda grows on you, doesn't it? so leafy in patterning.
Absolutely gorgeous landscapes to prospect in. I'd love to try carving Pinolite. It looks like it'd take a drill nicely, though with it's variable Moh's hardness, I'd have to be careful the kinds of detailed figures & shapes I'd try carving. I like the tightly-defined black & gold fans in terms of colour. It seems more elegant to me, though the pieces where the crystals start tiny & gradually grow larger in a single stone look amazing, no matter what colour they are. 😊
I’m staring the Purcells and Rockies right now, there’s definitely something to be said about the “magic” make up of the area, further south along the range they also used to pull uranium out. The history here is unreal when you dig deep enough, and there’s still a lot of unexplored potential here if you know where to go. Cheers Dan, love seeing my stomping grounds in your videos, also that creek your on is where I first panned for gold my self when I was wee boy.
I did this back in the 80's in Saline Valley. The Pilot was amazing - he (a Vietnam Veteran) landed the bird on a perch of rocks inside the canyon with less than a foot of clearance from the helicopter blades!
I would love to have some of those weathered chunks of stone, for a pump fed stream and garden pond! While they are not really hard to find, the ones in the video have a lot of character, and they deserve to be centerpieces or at the very least focal points! A but of moss, and some native flora, make the scene perfect!
Thanks Dan nice set of rocks from the ocean and not the top of the world ! I have a layer of Calcite with Granite on one side and limestone on the other side. From the top of Mt. Franklin in El Paso, TX from the 50's.
I go hunting in the Rockies and its pretty cool to see the geology up close, all the different formations and layers and rock types. Ive found ammonites, brachiopods, coral etc and theres fossil fields of marine fossils too but Ive never seen em. I wanted to try gold panning up there but the weather always gets cold and snowy so everything freezes up.
very interesting, Here in The Netherlands you dont have bedrock. What a shame. also no nature like this and no stones etc. Thanks for the vieuw! and lessons.
Dan, you should recommend they use a high pressure air piston to move those bigger rocks instead of the helicopter, provided its legal there. just dig a hole under it, hook it up, and fire away. a little jerry rigged jack oughtta be a lot more efficient than chopper fuel.
When the chopper lifts a bag, can a pilot see how much it weighs? (For safety reasons) Also, did a bag ever rip in mid air, dropping a whole load of stones?
I've seen Pinolite (or a similar mineral around the Mount Larcom district in Near Gladstone Qld. It was also sedimentary rock uplifted by volcanic process. As well as pinolite wasn't uncommon to find bivalve imprints in basalt rock in the same area.
Dan this was a beautiful video of the highland mountains of BC. Have you tried wearing compression socks to assist in your aerial high altitude adventures to shunt more blood to your core? I have POTS after the covid-19 vax messed up my nervous system's ability to regulate my BP & heart rate. I wear compression socks & they do help. It's interesting to see dolomite up that high. That's formed on a seafloor. Geology is so cool. Michigan has cool geology too. The UP of Michigan by far has the most cool geology.
Dan the rock you said you could make a bath tub is a fossil head. Take another look I can see mouth nose and eye. It’s laying on its left side facing down hill. I can’t believe you didn’t see the face.
Yeah i crashed my drone into some tree branches (the mavic pro) and it recovered and came back to me. It had some wood chips on it & the blades were chewed up looking. I replaced the blades and cleaned it up. Good as new. Had that thing since 2019 & it’s a work horse… although, I haven’t had much to film with it, lately
Pinolite slabs would make a beautiful counter, or table top. Probably be a bit hard getting something so big out of there. Smaller pieces in a frame with black epoxy or black concrete would be awesome.
Dan I'm loving this series! Actually, I love all of your videos. I was wondering about the air up there, and you answered my question! #GLOTD are great!
Pinolite.....we all know what that SOUNDS like....and for some reason it reminds me of Guns N Roses and Motley Crue and Bon Jovi and Warrant and Skid Row....... AHA......I know why it reminds me of those bands....C@ÇKRØCK!!!!!! Yeah! Rock on!!!!

These are one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen, and yet never heard of
Thanks for taking the time to film, Dan! Thus allowing us to come along. Breathtaking is all I can say. The geology lesson was awesome. I could listen to you talk while seeing it, loved it. 👍 to the family, what a wonderful day in the life
what an entry, can not be better.
It really is nice stuff , have some of it myself.
I love rockhounding and prospecting for gold, but forget all of that I'd just love to be up there in the mountains where it's inaccessible except by helicopter and really dedicated people on foot.
Imagine a floor tiled in Pinolite.
Looking down drunk would suck
Or in Crocidolite
That's some fancy bilionare kinda thing that I would understand
That's a seriously good idea tho
What about pinolith?
3/4" thick and 6x6 or 12x12 inches square with a polished surface. That has got to be worth something.
Now thats quality family time!
I need a Dan Hurd in my life, but I'll settle for watching for the meantime

Amazing landscape friend interesting video please keep the great videos coming friend from Scotland 😊
i really appreciate the "fun" Dana and Evan add to the channel.
I loved this one. I work on helicopters for a living 😊

You need a second video per week. Can't get enough of you Dan.
he needs to spend time with his family

What a wonderful adventure!
Talk about living life to the fullest 😄👍
The views where especially breathtaking this video 🕊🇬🇧
be safe high mountain is hard on the heart
Interesting that the pinolite outcropping is rounded and shows no breakage.
Your wife’s rock at ten min is best. 🤠
I love your enthusiasm about the Geology of the area as well as collecting specimens. Glad I found your channel to follow your adventures.
I REALLY LIKE how you showed the after product of the cut and polished rock when we are looking at it on the mountain lots of work into that !
I did this back in the 80's in Saline Valley. The Pilot was amazing - he (a Vietnam Veteran) landed the bird on a perch of rocks inside the canyon with less than a foot of clearance from the helicopter blades!
Well, Dan, I was born 74 years ago on this day. Greetings from the BIG SKY.
😁👋👍👍👏👏💕🙏🏻
Thank you Dan for taking us with you. When you went to
Cliff and George's claim. Thank you to both of them for making this possible.❤
I have to admit that I am a little jealous. Thanks for all the videos.
Pinolite? Pino-heavy! Great video Dan! You really got high for this one…😁 I truly enjoy these long videos.
I would love to have some of those weathered chunks of stone, for a pump fed stream and garden pond! While they are not really hard to find, the ones in the video have a lot of character, and they deserve to be centerpieces or at the very least focal points! Dan you're very likeable lad sir I "dig" the energy.. subscribed
First time I have heard a "rock hunter" says; that no more in the bag so the helicopter can lift it out :)
this was just wow!! Love the rocks and the view. How amazing!
Thanks Dan nice set of rocks from the ocean and not the top of the world ! I have a layer of Calcite with Granite on one side and limestone on the other side. From the top of Mt. Franklin in El Paso, TX from the 50's.
Aw! You brought a real rock hound with you 😂. Loved the amazing rocks!
Turbo
Hey i just thought id let you know how much i loved it when you found a rock, and had the pics of it cut, to show right then. 👍
alpine plants are pretty cool indeed
This is one of your many videos I enjoy. Penolite, Helicopter, friends and the best part is with your family! Keep this contents up Dan!
It's amazing what you can see from the air!
Is Pinolite really valuable enough to airlift out of a mountain top in the middle of nowhere or are airlifts dirt-cheap in Canada?
Just goes to show, that gold is not the only thing that is gold. Rock on.

If you go through Todd Hoffman's tailings up in Fairplay, you would probably become a rich man.
Watching always from 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭
I had a dream last night I was in a gravel pile looking for minerals..and I found a piece of Pinolite... 😂 Thanks Dan!!! 😆😆
Great video by the way ❤
very interesting, Here in The Netherlands you dont have bedrock. What a shame. also no nature like this and no stones etc. Thanks for the vieuw! and lessons.
Dan that would make some sweet countertops if you could find a piece long enough
Dan, you should recommend they use a high pressure air piston to move those bigger rocks instead of the helicopter, provided its legal there. just dig a hole under it, hook it up, and fire away. a little jerry rigged jack oughtta be a lot more efficient than chopper fuel.
Good morning from Southeast South Dakota
I would love to go on an adventure like this with you. It would be a bucket list item for me. Amazing amazing amazing!!!
Wow! Such beautiful rocks and the view up there awesome!
When the chopper lifts a bag, can a pilot see how much it weighs? (For safety reasons)
Also, did a bag ever rip in mid air, dropping a whole load of stones?
The higher the elevation the better the cold
Wow!! What an adventure!! Those rocks are awesome!! Thank you for taking us along!
cool scenery
What an Awesome video! Thnx for sharing Dan. 💥
Go Dan!!! 🎉🎉🎉 What a dream come true!! What beautiful mineral specimens 😮😮😮💕
I've seen Pinolite (or a similar mineral around the Mount Larcom district in Near Gladstone Qld. It was also sedimentary rock uplifted by volcanic process. As well as pinolite wasn't uncommon to find bivalve imprints in basalt rock in the same area.
the kid has now skill and eye for specimen lovely . keep it up kiddo you ll be an expert with a bright futur soon
I hope you find this much ocean picture stone. Good luck
That is definitely ankle break alley. Wow. I am way too clumsy to be up there runnin around.
Wow Thanks Dan! Awesome.
Make sinks and bath tubs out of that, how cool!
Morning Reg Labbe
Very beautiful, I recommend bottle oxygen helps me on trips to Colorado
Wild West, super! How I like it all
FInding valuable minerals in paradise and then plowing under paradise to get them!

I thought snowdon in Wales is impressive
This is over twice as high and way more awsome
Beautiful
Good morning Susan Turcotte
Is the graphite inside the rocks enough that you can burn them, or at least get the graphite parts to burn?
I haven't tried. But why would you want to. ? With a torch ?.
Dan the rock you said you could make a bath tub is a fossil head. Take another look I can see mouth nose and eye. It’s laying on its left side facing down hill. I can’t believe you didn’t see the face.
Those views are absolutely beautiful. Thanks for showing us
I like it but I would love if you found a cluster type. I don’t even know if that’s possible but still
Amaizing
Thanks gor filming 5his on my busy ahaha I turned 40 September 16
Thanks for sharing ❤
16:07 I'm certain that I see ancient beings that were turned into stone long ago on the face of the mountain.
Interesting looking rocks
Great Video,, that stuff is so cool, I see what you are saying, that with make some great tile
That’s some pretty stone
Yeah i crashed my drone into some tree branches (the mavic pro) and it recovered and came back to me.
It had some wood chips on it & the blades were chewed up looking.
I replaced the blades and cleaned it up. Good as new. Had that thing since 2019 & it’s a work horse… although, I haven’t had much to film with it, lately
i will enjoy this Dan.
Lol, that’s roughly the elevation of the house I grew up in. On a mountain top in Tahoe.
can you see the amount of rokcs ready to be sorte, insane
I'm here ready to watch
Wow what fun!
