I've never seen something look so good and so shit at the same time
That's exactly my thoughts while watching. Technically great but utterly soulless beautiful trash that could have come out of any (de)generative AI garbage can.
That's probably because real life is pretty ugly, as games get more realistic they also get bland and boring, lol. I kinda like it thooo
@@Aldoistaken you're on to something. You just got it exactly upside down. Real life is beautiful even when it is ugly. That is because it never looks fake. This is the exact opposite of that. It tries to be beautiful and real and ends up looking more fake than if it hadn't tried so hard. Kind of a case of the uncanny valley. This is what happens when you focus on technology but don't have talented artists who breathe "life" into the level-design. That is why I mentioned (de)generative AI. It has that soulless look that you get when you have a machine puke out designs based on randomness and probabilities instead of having a human put a part of their soul into your product. We will see more of this going forward and it will take a while until enough people are appalled enough so that this isn't profitable anymore but I'm sure until then this kind of half asset-flip half tech demo stuff is going to be all the rage. But maybe I'm just ripe for another coffee and way too negative about this.
@@Aldoistaken I actually think the graphics are fine, theyre pretty damn realistic. My issue is with how soulless and shallow the gameplay and movement is.
The dude's face could at least have some expression... He looks so stoic ironically for a game advertising realism
The contrast between the graphics and the animations is too large to go unnoticed. that's why it feels so odd and janky
I agree.
feels like someone just cranked up the textures, added some good lighting, started the render and went on vacation.
Exactly. And to be picky, the whole cargo ship it feels like sailing on a silky road rather than on an agitated sea. But creating animtaions where the character actually open the doors or climb the stairs realistically? I've see on twominutespapers Ai recreating lifelike characters, moving as a real human being would do (I think created by Nvidia devs), so i hope not far from now, we will be able to play real Next-Gen titles not only with photorealistic lighting system but also gameplay/animations.
believe it or not, janky makes it more realistic.. human body doesnt move as smooth as you think.. look at assasin creed or horizon zero down, those main characters move so smooth like a snake making it look so unrealistic.. hence why realistic game like the military simulator, Arma 3 having a janky movement on the character..
I don't think you can read properly. This is a work in progress game. Still in Alpha stage.. Stop being lame about the game
Feels like emphasis is on the graphics rather than gameplay. Gameplay seems pretty standard
Sounds like every AAA games.
being an alpha I'm not surprised about the lacking of refinements in sounds, AI and overall interactivity, but yeah the gameplay seems like Rainbow Six Vegas in 2024, gosh..

The textures, reflections, and detail/resolution are on point. The character movement mechanics are standard. And the ocean along with the ceiling glass breaking seems unpolished.
really? wouldnt have guessed that, when watching a gameplay alpha haha had to write a snarky response to such a comment bc obviously its unpolished, thats why its an alpha. This is obviously to show the RT effects and graphical fidelity, nothing else. If the game still looks unpolished after they announced the specific release date, alpha's and beta's are a thing of the past, THEN there is reason to worry about anything being unpolished. But not when they show a short ray tracing demo, with the game in an alpha state, frankly. Dont you think so?

Soulless tech demo for RTX 5xxx marketing
Graphics great, but the details are strange. How large is this ship? The gallery and labs seem to go on forever. Combat makes the whole screen shake, but being on a ship on in the middle of the ocean doesn't. Enemies in the lab don't even register a door opening next to them. They're not, if the bitrate of the recording is high enough.
@@XirlioTLLXHRmost of the time they are
To think gameplay must be so much worse...
@@XirlioTLLXHR what? the graphics are ALWAYS better than on YT. Even a 4k video on TH-cam is compressed quite a lot, actually. Seeing it in real life is effectively always a very noticeable step up! TH-cam, Twitch, Netflix, Amazon Prime and all other video or streaming hosts will compress data or files/and your livestream. They always compress it. Its basically never uncompressed footage. to my knowledge (didnt google anything to confirm its the only one) only Sony with its Sony or Bravia Core is offering actual compression free video streaming when using their highest setting/most expensive offering, thats why you need 115mbit/s internet to stream it.
If resolution is graphics to you... even then not so much

Its the way the camera is angled
So this is basically a standard 3rd person shooter game built around the graphics, nothing else lol. It looks like they took Ghost Recon from 2013 and put photorealism over it
You are judging an alpha version
do not leave this type of comments if you don't understand what is alpha!
What do you expect from an alpha?
Personally i would expect way less than that
I would expect to see a lot of blackouts (or whatever its called) and working (but still unbalanced) mechanics
Doubt the game play will change drastically. Doesn't look the least bit interesting or unique but lets see.
@@HANAKINskywoker Actual good gameplay mechanics? That is what alpha is for, finalising gameplay mechanics. Beta is for bug-fixing and polish. Core loops are already done in alpha. The gameplay will not change for release from what we see in the video above other than fixing bugs, glitches, and tightening up some of the mechanics and controls.

@zarth987 is correct. It is not a throwing animation. The high-tech sphere floats up by itself.
the reloading sound seems recorded in the bathroom.
This is just slightly off photoreal, but in a way that you'd expect from a CGI movie or a Blur Studios cutscene. Absolutely insane that this is running in realtime.
If the gameplay is this boring the graphics won't help.
is it just me or the sea is moving in slow mo?
Yeah this is the first thing that catched my attention. Looks so weird.
thats how sea/ocean works? its big and movement is slow, many games add super fast animation making it look weird
The strange thing to me is how the boat doesn't seems to move. Just the water around it.
Outdoors looks odd. Character is on a ship at sea and it looks like there is no wind. Water on deck is static, hair is static etc. It looks goofy
way too many people defending this for being a "work in progress" or, "in alpha".
clearly the developers thought it was good enough to show the public, in turn they'll get rightfully criticized for it.

I don't see anything technologically new here, level and textures are very beautiful, but in terms of graphics this demo is quite weak. Almost all lighting is static, there is no direct light. There are almost no shadows. Reflections are blurry, similar to regular screen space reflection. Ocean in same World of Warships looks much better. Particles look pretentious, at level of first Crysis game. Something like this is quite possible to make without RTX and DLSS on old versions Unreal Engine.
That ship is seriously large on the inside.
The museum / art gallery area isn't on the ship. The door on the ship was a "portal" to a totally different place.
@@forasago its amazing how many people don't pay attention, and its not just video games, humans are complete trash at it.
It’s a Turkish game. And probably the highest produced one so far. And as a Turkish person, I want to support it. But all of these “oh it has insane graphics” discussions are getting really old. Maybe it has the highest tech features available on the industry with the UE5 stuff, but the gameplay and overall animations feels very bland to me. If this is just a tech demo, then it’s fine but so far I am not hyped at all
Damn... the contrast between the extremely modern graphics and the ridiculously dated gameplay and animations, is super jarring
It's always better to attribute more budget into the feeling of the game instead of the looks.
The thing is, looks are extremely cheap these days. Thanks to Lumen, Nanite, photogrammetry and raytracing, it does a lot of the work for the designers. Lots of photorealism at a very low cost in terms of both time and money. But you still bring up a good point insofar that the focus should be on the gameplay rather than just the looks.
Not sure the map layout makes any sense with a giant musuem being inside an industrial ship but ok, really nice graphics.
It's a portal -- the game is like a mix of Metal Gear and Matrix Reloaded with the keymaker.
We’re not gonna talk about the iconic statues that had their uh… parts removed? 👀
Does anyone feel like the ocean waves never moved at all? it felt like a static background,tf?
The sea was too slow, but this is Alpha and anything is subject to change.
Yeah the ocean had major uncanny valley vibes because the water wasn't moving according to the weather conditions -- the water should have been slightly wavy around the ship due to the ship's movement, and more calm further out. Also, based on the way the waves were moving, the boat should have been rocking a lot more.
All the assets are too clean, which makes them look unreal. Increasing reflections isn’t helping much to make it look more realistic.
Funny how even YT compression is not able to hide the temporal blur in motion
The developer is called Motion Blur.
Most unreal engine 4 and 5 always looks blurry and has inbuilt TAA which looks awful. Many things looks blurry also alot texture in unreal looks plastic to me.
As someone who worked aboard cargo ships, I have to say that this here is the most accurate depiction of one that I have seen so far. It made me very nostalgic

Interesting combination of stunning graphics and awful movement and animations. Did they made by different groups?
Its looks really good. But the lack of physics is really a big shame, CoD Modern Warfare first mission on the ship is a great example to compare this to. They managed to nail the waves and ship movement on water so well despite the limitations of the time.

its literally MGS2 through and through .. i'm impressed with the atmosphere and quality
Atmosphere is definitely intriguing, but it still feels very disparate. The NPCs don't really seem to be part of the game world, just there as set dressing. They really need to hunker down on NPC behaviourism so they feel more natural instead of uncanny in how they behave.
Judging from the reflections, this game utilizes ray reconstruction. In the first scene reflections have very crisp detail, while also keeping the detail in the floors normal maps.
In Cyberpunk (which is Nvidia's favorite demonstration game) ray reconstruction makes these details muddy and it's always a trade off. Yet in this unreleased UE5 game they look perfect.
Makes me wonder why and how it has been 10 whole months since they announced ray reconstruction but it's still not available to devs in the UE5 DLSS Plugin...
In this demo it is dlss 3.0 and there is no ray reconstruction
how does this guy run at 0.1 m/s, is he running on a moving treadmill

It looks amazing!!! There are great visuals that are exciting. Although the animation diversity is high, there are minor problems in some animations. I think there is a timing and spacing problem, especially in the part where the soldiers break the ceiling glass. (Also, the animations of the two soldiers on the left are the same) Even in this short gameplay, I saw that the main character could take different actions, which was very exciting.
