Koji Kondo’s teenage son: “You’re so lame dad, you only make music for children’s games and will never be as cool as [insert rockstar here].” Koji furiously picks up his son's electric guitar, and comes up with this on the spot. His son can not believe the glorious music his own father is playing and tears down all the band posters on his wall. His boss, who had been invited over for dinner, overhears Koji playing and immediately calls various Nintendo higher ups. He begs them to revive the SNES CD just to have a high quality recording of Kondo shredding in game. After insisting it should happen despite being repeatedly told it would be a substantial revenue loss for the business, they compromise by adding an enhancement chip capable of handling a MIDI version. You heard me correctly, the Super FX is there just to process Koji rocking out so hard.
Thank God it was compressed on the snes. This restored version would've melted my 9 year old face off. It sucks Koji Kondo never made another metal song like this to my remembrance. He clearly has the knack for it.
I'm a complex man. I see a "The Brickster" video, and I write a multi-volume thesis that inspires a Norwegian research and development team to produce a machine that builds robotic dragonflies obedient to human command, one of which I purchase in order to tell it to click.
Funny fact. This song used to scare the crap out of me as a kid. IT WAS SO INTENSE!!! My little heart couldn’t take it. XD Nowadays it’s one of my favorite songs now on the SNES.
Hearing the Electric Guitar uncompressed is absolutely amazing. And those drums go way harder here than in the real game. I think the compression adds a bit to the background, but other than that this is definitely outstanding.
Not gonna lie, this is one of those tracks where I feel like the in-game compression helps a lot, namely on the guitar parts. The bitcrushing compression makes the guitars sound so much heavier than you'd think the SNES can handle. However, those DRUMS, these super crisp drums in this restoration. That kick drum and that snare go so hard.
God the nostalgia is hitting me right now. All I can hear and see from this image is rocks falling, fireballs, the background of the stage and countless fluttering. What a banger this is
This boss fight theme is my favorite of any ive heard!! It sounds so GOOD both restored and from the game!! I wish more final boss fight themes were this exciting! Yoshi's Island has the perfect soundtrack!
I've commented alot of these restores before and Ill keep parsing them. Soo good thank you 🖤. These restores are the video game ost equivalent of like archeologists and historians unearthing ancient civilizations or finding new dinosaurs. You guys are uncovering history
I'm hearing guitars and cymbals I've never heard before, holy fuck! Funny how growing up I thought I wasn't going to like this game when I first played it. Oh, how I was so naive!
Imagine if they made a total remake of Yoshi’s Island using the original artwork they had with the original tracks restored and edited to sound clearer and smoother. Fun Fact: They actually based off the sprites off of scanned artwork they had to draw. They had to recreate it pixel by pixel apparently. At least we got a cool children’s storybook style for the game. Edit: My comment got unhearted ;(
Amazing work. Thank you for all involved. If you ever take requests in the future, could you please remaster Chemical Plant Zone from Sonic 2? It's my all-time favorite track from the game. The boss theme also hits hard! 😄
Excellent work on finding the original samples, but I've got quite a lot of criticism on this song. tl;dr, it sounds like the samples were not put through the original sequence from the game, but rather the sequence was remade by hand, and it shows. I'll start by saying: As good as it sounds, I believe the percussion is much too loud. I feel that there isn't enough range in between all the instruments. 0:00 - The intro's "Reverb" effect is much more pronounced in the original, and pans much more to the left in this version, when the original had it pan all over the place. 0:23 - The "guitars" are really faint in the mix of everything else. Should be much louder 0:29 - Why aren't my ears getting pierced into blood by the high pitched noise that fades in? I can barely hear it. 0:42 - To the untrained ear, this sounds like a jumbled mess, but this jumbled mess doesn't match the original sequence. 0:47 - 0:50 -This shouldn't have gone unnoticed. In the original, the high note before the following bunch of lower notes alternates from a lower note and a much higher note evenly, and that didn't happen in this video. It's kinda hard to explain with words but you'll understand if you directly compared the two 1:02 - The "keyboard" also sounds like it's being washed out by the rest of the instruments in the mix. Again, my ears are not bleeding from the keyboard. Overall this is very nice, but it wouldn't be correct to call this a restoration with the mistakes at hand. . . . . . While commenting about yoshi's island music, in your video of flower garden, the harmonica's timing seems off compared to the original, it's really noticeable at 0:41. Yoshi's Island Restored - Flower Garden - TH-cam
As other people have said, I think we're missing a lot without the compression these tracks originally had. I think a lot of SNES music is originally composed with the compression of the sounds in mind, and when you take that away it does sound a bit off. I do really really like the drums though, very clean compared to the original version where you can barely hear them
Kondo had no business creating something this heavy

the sony audio chip in the snes was a crazy thing
It sound so different yet exactly the same. It's sort of mind-blowing.
This is a metal song. It would be cool to see it played by a metal band
