    I have the Presonus StudioLive (32S) controller/mixer. Hoping the mixer faders in READ mode will follow the automation that was written during write mode. I think they will, but will need to test it...

    I completely get everything you’re doing and I do this and everything works perfectly put away on the last two notes of my lead guitar soul split walked in right. Everything works fine when I play back. It’s just mute to delay to turn it off and then when I make a mix, bring it down to listen to it, there’s no delay on the soul wonder tracker but everything is working in my studio one and I want to turn on and off and do what it supposed to do but when I miss it down, there’s no delay on the solo. What am I missing you here?

    So I have a good handle on using automation but how do you write it on the mixdown. I write the automation in the project just won't work on the mixdown?

    • @TimTalksAudio
      @TimTalksAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Are you saying that your exported mix doesn't have your automation moves in it? If this is the case, my first guess would be to make sure that all your channels (and maybe some plugins if you have plugin automation going on) are set to the green "Read" mode.

    • @onethree2807
      @onethree2807 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimTalksAudio thanks for your help I've tried that options and for some with the automation of izotope vinyl won't export on the mixdown. Even when the plug is on read and channel as well... I've found a work around in another TH-cam vid. In this video but if there is an easier way to just export that would be great

    • @TimTalksAudio
      @TimTalksAudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That is certainly a great workaround. Are you also having issues with vinyl or is it another plugin that you’re having problems with? Vinyl is an older plugin from Izotope so there could be some bugs with it and studio one.

    Hello! My automation doesn't move along with my tracks/region when I move my tracks which leaves the automation out of sync from where I want them. So how do I get my automation to move along to my tracks if I select all and move all my tracks forward (112 tracks) too many tracks
    with automation other wise I would do it manually

    bro why u automating the mixer ?

    • @TimTalksAudio
      @TimTalksAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Why not? As a mixing engineer, it's our job to use what ever tools may bring us closer to the sound we want! It's very common to automate all kinds of things within a single song!

    • @traveler263
      @traveler263 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimTalksAudio I thought the general consensus was to use a tool/utility on the chain and automate volume on that so you can still use the mixer as a mixer

    • @TimTalksAudio
      @TimTalksAudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@traveler263 there’s a lot of ways to control all sorts of parameters! Automation is there to repeat these processes as we need in whatever way works best for that individual!

    • @traveler263
      @traveler263 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimTalksAudio right, just that I was talking about the best practice of using a gain in the chain for volume automation, so that the mixer can still be controlled as a mixer. it's simply a well known best practice that seems to work best for most individuals so many recommend it, which in turn, can make a video on automation using fader automation as an example, look like a gordon ramsay video teaching how to make filet mignon but using all frozen ingredients

    OK, I learned a couple of things about automation, but!!! If you are going to teach something, clear out all of your massive quantaties of JUNK on your screen (presumably trying to show what a sophisticated sound engineer you are) and put a SINGLE, BIG recording line with a single big mix channel on the screen instead. That way what you are trying to show will be larger than a nickel in a screen full of stuff! Another thing: find a recording of something like a voice or a piano that is playing a simple melody (twinkle twinkle little star for all I care), but something that everyone KNOWS what it should sound like and can tell if on section of the music is too loud, too soft, etc. Do not use drums! (You didn’t in this one, thank you.). Drums only make sense in reference to the other components of the music. Remember this video is INTRODUCING people to the concepts. KISS - keep it simple stupid! LOL. Thanks

      Thanks for the feedback! Firstly, I'm glad to hear that you did learn somethings after watching this video. Second, I understand what you mean by keeping the contents of the session to a minimum when demonstrating. I will keep that in mind for future content. Thank you again for watching and for the feedback.
