    Just bought a REL S510 to my Pass Labs sytem with Elac concentro S503 and exactly what Kevin say is what i experienced. The room building/presentation is just miles above what i was used to. Ive always been an old fashioned two channel guy and a sub was no go! Then i saw Steve Huff's video on the matter and i thought ok, ill give it a try, and the enhance in musicality and pleasure of listening is incredible!

    I just added a REL T9i to my EVO 400i with Sonus Faber Olympica II and it is nothing short of magical! John explained it well although I believe I let my Sub come in just above and not below the bottom frequency of the SF. This because there is a 6 db loss to the bottom frequency listed by SF. Sound integration between REL and SF is extremely natural, seamless. Highly recommended. Thank you Kevin for your passion!

    I have owned both Rel and Vandersteen subs and they are both good and are both built well and done well. Rel's take more set up, but once you get it right, it's magical, but so is Vandersteen.

    Great video! How to connect one rel sub to a primaluna prologue 4? I am a little puzzle has there is no ground chassis screw for the black wire. I hear stories of people losing volume on one channel if they use the 0ohn terminal. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot!

    won't running the front speakers to full range cause damage to them?

    • @photomusicman9413
      @photomusicman9413 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wondered this for years. I used to own B&W standmounts and tried them full range + sub. Fine for music but not for blurays with heavy soundtracks (Bladerunner 2049 for example). I don't think REL make this very clear in their literature. I now own B&W floor standers that go down to about 34 Hz and REL have confirmed that they are fine to use full range with subs, even though the floorstanders don't go really deep.

    • @berj79
      @berj79 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      which B&W standmounts you owned? i got the S684 s2 which are mini towers. Thanks.

      with the s684 s2 you were having the issues running Full Range with the Rel sub? Thanks.

    • @photomusicman9413
      @photomusicman9413 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would not push the 684s too hard (volume) when playing full range with movies. Saying that, the .1 channel takes care of the explosions and whatever the mixer puts on that channel, but a lot of movie low end frequencies still go to the main L&R speakers and you could be pushing it. It is up to you if you take the chance using the 684s full range. Do you use a 5.1 system and what amp do you use please? I can help you more if we make sure your amp is set correctly to start. Please would you give me details of your setup, thank you. I love REL but they do not make it clear in their literature that not every speaker can be run full-range. If you are in the UK or USA their phone customer support is great.

    I currenty have a single S5 in my dedicated 2-channel room. Can anyone comment on the potential benefit if i add a second and run stereo. Room is 14 x 18ft. Thanks

      @vladimirdorta6692 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The more subwoofers, the better integration in any room. Earl Geddes has studied this at length. You can add 3 more subwoofers (which don't have to be RELs or even expensive ones) and separate them through the room. Geddes gives specific rules for this.

    • @vladimirdorta6692
      @vladimirdorta6692 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If your preamp/receiver has stereo outputs, you would connect one REL to the right channel and the other REL to the left channel, to have real stereo bass. If it only has one .1 channel output, you don't need two RELs.

    • @photomusicman9413
      @photomusicman9413 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vladimir, you are so wrong when you say "If it only has one .1 channel output, you don't need two RELs". If you want two subs and your receiver has only one .1 channel out, you can use a splitter to send the .1 information to both subs. If you want true stereo subs, you have to run your main speakers full range all the time and use the hi-inputs on each sub by taking a speaker output from the l&r on your amp into your subs so that your subs receive the same signal as your l&r fronts. Then adjust the volume of each sub separately along with the correct crossover so they not only go deeper than the main speakers, but fill out the whole sound and are still virtually unnoticeable. That's the only difficult part of setting up an REL correctly.

    • @vladimirdorta6692
      @vladimirdorta6692 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but you're the one who's wrong. I have used REL subwoofers for many years. 2.1 means 2 speakers and 1 subwoofer. If you use a splitter, the only thing you're doing is to add both channels into one subwoofer, so you'll be using two subwoofers abut the bass will still be mono. And what you say about stereo subs is already explained in my post. Jeez!

    • @photomusicman9413
      @photomusicman9413 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too have used REL subs for years and know what I am talking about. This is not a competition of "I know more than you", blah blah blah, but I am correct in what I am saying. Read this carefully, or go to the REL website and see for yourself.
      Have you heard of a 7.2.4 system? I have one. Seven speakers on ear level, four Atmos speakers on the ceiling and two subs.
      My AVR happens to have two sub outputs, which can send an identical .1 signal to TWO subs. If there is only one sub output on the back of an amp then this signal can be split by using a splitter if I want the .1 channel to be sent to two subs, hence 7.2. This will then reinforce the .1 channel on both subs if that is required.
      My surrounds and Atmos speakers are set to crossover at 80Hz crossover on my amp so anything below those frequencies will also be sent to the subs via the sub outputs on the back of the amp.
      I run my main floor standing L&R speakers full range - I do not set a crossover on them. I also run cables from the L&R speaker outputs on the amp to the hi-inputs on my subs using Speaker connectors. This way, the subs receive exactly the same full range signal as my L&R floor standers. I then set the crossover on the subs to the point where my main speakers roll off. This not only deals with the lower frequencies that the main speakers cannot handle but rounds the sound off beautifully in the room. On top of this, the subs still of course receive the .1 discrete channel from sources that have a .1 channel.
      So, less of the sarcastic "jeez" please and accept some advice.

    The T9i only gets down to 28hz... not that low.. how come?

    • @juliaset751
      @juliaset751 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They specify it is 6 dB down at 28 Hz, but that is just a number used for comparison purposes. There is still usable output below that, but lower in loudness. 6 dB down is generally considered half the loudness. Just the meaning of loudness or volume could start as many arguments as politics.

    Kevin Deal should stop with this bullshit pronto, please. Klipsch engineers have proven time and time again they make audiophile class subwoofers. REL is not the king anymore, but rather JL Audio and SVS are the real and true kings of subwoofers.
