Awesome list. I've struggled to find book content creators who enjoy the same sort of odd novels as me. But, here on your list I have read or have recently purchased every book. I'm excited to binge your videos.
Happy new year Carolyn! I have loved following your book reviews for a long while now but this video really confirms that I think we have very close taste in books. Also, this made me want to read my Angela Carter book that I own The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories sooner so I can get to Passion of New Eve. I also own and have not read Jonathan Strange and Strange and Mr Norrell and now I really gotta read that one too lol! I would recommend What Dreams May Come by Richard Matheson (adapted into a movie with Robin Williams but it does it 0 justice). It is one of my favorite book. Matheson was a OG horror writer and inspired many including Stephen King. This one is not horror, it's mostly about life and afterlife and it is a love store. I highly recommend.
Lots of atmospheric reads on your list, we love to see it! Started Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell recently because I really loved Piranesi. Happy to hear how much you loved it!
Aww your contagion for reading was really contiguous, loved your content this year xx My favourite book was probably Putney by Sofka Zionvieff or Sympathy by Olivia Sudjic ✨
Piranesi made it onto my favourites list as a reread 😉 I recently got a copy of Jonathan Strange, I must admit that I'm quite intimidated but looking forward to getting to it this year. I really must read some Vandermeer this year! My favourite book of the year was Animal by Lisa Taddeo and if you haven't read it I think you should check it out 😊
So glad you loved Pachinko, it was my favourite book of 2021! I think you would really like ‘Beasts of a Little Land’, I’ve just finished it and already know it’s going to be one I revisit frequently. It’s a historical fiction and reminded me a lot of pachinko. I’d love to hear what you think of it :)
I'm glad I watched this because this was the first positive review of the Doloriad I've seen on booktube and I've been waffling on reading it. If you liked Perdido I hope you check out the follow up to that, The Scar. I like it a bit better than PSS. Feels a bit more 'whole' and isn't quite all over the place. And if you like Jeff Vandermeer and you haven't read it yet, his Ambergris books are very well done.
after seeing everything you’ve enjoyed this year i’m coming here to say if you’re not BEST FRIENDS with sunbeamsjess yet then please start talking lmaoo
I think you would love “our wives under the sea” by Julia Armfield - very creepy, another body book, the writing is amazing. Her short story collect salt slow is also fantastic
Fantastic list! Can't wait to see more of your reviews this year!
I loved “Pachinko.” I own “The Marriage Portrait” and I own the Mantel book. I had just pulled out Mantel’s book to read next. Great minds, right?
I was going to say the same thing. With Mieville, Vandermeer and Mantel 😊

That’s great to hear! I have Beasts of a Little Land on my shelf… will need to pick up soon
I bought some Jeff VanderMeer in late summer because of you and STILL haven't gotten around to reading... perhaps 2023?
Yes, PLEASE.
