Hi, Carolyn! came to your channel through a sunny book nook booktube:) i know this is almost a year old video but I wanted to say I love your book selections! I totally relate to what you say about Freshwater! When I read it a few years ago, I remember I really loved it although it was not like "fun!" kind of enjoyment. It dit not specifically mention what the protagonist was going through was mental illness but I felt I could see it as a mental health challenges (not necessarily clinically diagnosed) back then. Now, I am taking a seminar of psychopathology at college and when we touched on culture X psychopathology, I remember this book and spirituality part among some of the people with diverse cultural background is so rarely seriously taken into consideration in mental health field though it should not like that. a few years later I read the book, I have a different or more expanded articulation of the book, which is super cool! Thank you so much for inspiring me to reread the book! Also I have been pausing Hidden Vally reading for a while! I should resume it! so excited! I will definitely look into other books you recommend in this video (and others too!) happy to discover your channel!

Big move! New name! Top 10 video! This is a momentous upload for you 😂 I know it’s just an honourable mention but I’m happy to see Small Things Like These. I’ve been hearing sooo many good things about it. Need to pick it up. And including the quotes was such a great touch! Big fan 😊

I read Borne because you recommended it so highly and it is one of my favourites of this year too! I am kinda shocked to not see a Moshfegh on your favourites list haha. My Year of Rest and Relaxation has to be my number one. Also since you loved the vegetarian, I think you should read more of Kang‘s work. I‘ve read ever translation available to me this year and my favourite of hers is only translated to German, but I hope it will be translated to English too because that one was incredible! I hope you keep up the great recommendations, coz our reading taste is so similar and you‘ve quickly become one of my favourite booktubers! So glad Grace recommended you :)

Honestly shocked Moshfegh isn’t on my list too hahah. Competition was fierce but I truly loved My Year of Rest and Relaxation. I’m so glad you loved Borne! Grateful to Grace for sending you over here ❤️ thank you for your support!!

Convinced me to read Borne! (And Lent after seeing it in your other vid too!) I really liked the SR trilogy, which I noticed you have stacked out of order on the shelf in the back lol. Curious if that was on purpose

i loved Piranesi too! I just read in the distance by Hernan Diaz and honestly if U liked Piranesi (particularly like the whole guileless boy/man's interrogatory relationship with his Environment with science/spiritual overtones and very atmospheric writing) I would say give it a go !!
