Context:
This is the Shawano Speedway (Wisconsin) Spectator racing year end finally. They basically have a slow class and fast class. Slow = "4/6 class” fast = "v-8 class”. AWD cars run in the v-8 class. I don’t make the rules...
There is a history of the Black Camaro winning year after year at these event. When I talked to most people about an evo being able to beat said Camaro, they laughed at me thinking it couldn't. And other, relative stock evo's tried in the past and lost. Of course All wheel drive is an advantage. I'm not going to argue that. But i will argue that being all wheel drive is not the ONLY reason the evo won. It takes horsepower, good handling and a decent driver to win. I (Paul - evo driver in this video) am fully aware I'm not the best driver. My main goal was to keep it out of the wall. Here is the evo racing with a good driver = • Spectator Race V8class...
PS- The EVO was driven to the track and driven back home!

@@Big1_ it's literally a vehicle with a rally cross pedigree, and it actually goes beyond just regular 4x4. OP gets it, he's saying it's not special that the Evo wins. I wanted to see the 2nd gen take that things lunch money

This part at 18:32 where they come sliding around the corner was so sick. Sweet rides and props to the drivers!
At 25:58 the Camaro driver gave the Evo driver a thumbs up. That’s sportsmanship right there.
Put the camaro driver in the Evo and he would show you how to drive the Evo properly in the bends

I think he was nervous and scrubbed the launch. He spun pretty hard compared to other races.That Camaro rips! I really think he could have gave him more of run despite the awd advantage.

That second race he knew he had to bring all thr smoke for beating dude in thr camero.. Sweet races.. You could tell the older car had a seasoned veteran driving but the Evo dude was a gifted learner with a car built for dirt.. Great racing right here

if you have been to any dirt track racing at all (not trying to offend) many of them do this not to warm up tires but to actually pick up some dirt especially on a dry slick track.

A comment below said to pick up dirt and it's somewhat true but it's also to try and knock off the dirt. Kinda like in baseball she the batter hits his fleets with the bar to knock the dirt off so he will have better traction. But unless he actually has the tires for this type of RACING then it really doesn't help because the tread gap is so close on a street tire that you might as well be running slicks. Lol
Subaru's and evo's are at home on a dirt track, many rally championships. Thanks for the great video

It's really hard to pull off a better launch in a RWD car compared to an AWD, but I agree. Dude was absolutely killing it

The camaro would not beat the evo ever... that Evo is modded and tuned you can tell by the 2 step Launch control he’d just fly around him on the straight.
@@msengineeringdavid3148 But you forgot to factor in: The DRIVER in each car. In a race, it is not always the highest powered car that wins. Never say Never. Without the standing start advantage of the EVO, the Camaro driver would have had the edge, IMO.

Cool video! Probably should just have an AWD class if there's enough participants though. It's hard to beat an AWD car in a race like this. Just get a good launch and box the other guy out for one lap.

Terry Keith he didn’t make him earn anything... had the driver learn how to slide the corners he can go wide open sideways but he got scared on the back straight and slowed down aggressively because he’s not confident in doing that.

@Dan begs Turbo at one bar pressure equivalent to a v8? lol Some cars have like 200hp with 1 bar pressure. Its all about the size of the engine and turbo, With that said. V8 sucks if they aint turbocharged.

@@Stuntzii1 It's not a v8 class, this is just a for fun event. There was another 4 cylinder and also a v6 there. An actual aluminum stock car with a $40,000 v8 engine built to only go in circles would have lapped that evo. This track also host a division called mighty 4s where only fwd 4 cylinders are allowed. And I doubt that evo is going to be laughing out loud about winning a casual dirt race against some 50+ year old muscle cars having fun on a dirt track.

The evo was good until the last two corners of the track, seemed to let everyone catch up in those turns.

I had an 04 Evo I bought new, if it didn't develop a ton of rust, I would've kept it. I miss car so much. It was truly special. Interior pure shitbox outside of the steering wheel, seats, and shifter, performance was crazy. Most fun car I ever owned in the snow and dirt.

I want to do this so bad! Growing up, my brother, and I would drive our vehicles in our uncle's disced fields when no one was home. My brother driving a 1971 F100 Explorer truck with my cam corder onboard, would chase me in my 1994 Ford Escort GT manual-shift. We wanted to be rally racers. We would make chase scenes in the fields. He was always sticking his head out the window to get the camera in a better viewpoint because of all of the dust. I miss him, and that era of simple living.

The only thing I'm embarrassed about is my lack of driving skills. lol.
Most importantly, the evo follows the rules of the class. If you want close competition with a more level playing field, spectator "run what you brung" racing is not for you. Faster cars at racing events should be a good thing.

Another idiot that doesnt realize there was two all wheel drive cars in this race (one that lost twice), nor does he realize that if the race was over one lap, other than a standing start??? That not even the Evo would of won.

Jason America it's all about horsepower. Sure the awd gets off the line faster but if you got the horsepower to pass him it could easily be done
@@spankthemonkey3437 The AWD goes through and comes out of corners better. I know it didn't have the most Hp out of all the cars. The 3000gt beats pretty much everyone on the hardtop during spectator drags although the 3000gt does have a lot done to it. Small car good handling and decent power equals a win. Good for him
