A lot of people don't know that Van damme and Michel Qissi (Tong Po) Were actually best friends growing up in Belgium, as kids they dreamed about moving to America and being movie stars, once they arrived in America they had so many set backs, they missed their flight, ran out of money, they would steal food to survive, they would clean toilets and gyms for accommodation, they were declined for numerous small movie roles, but they persevered for 6 years and never gave up. For me that's what makes the scene so much more beautiful, knowing how they got there.
True, they were best childhood friends. Not many people also know, that the actor playing Tong Po also played in Bloodsport movie as Suan Paredes (the one that got his knee smashed by Chong Li).
