    I haven't driven the Polestar 4, but merely based upon sitting in a preproduction version this is not comparable to a Model 3 at all. The Model 3 is fine, but it's really just very basic with cost savings everywhere. This is a truly premium car - much nicer than my current Audi Q4, which is already much nicer than a Model 3.

  • @judebrown4103
    @judebrown4103 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Well that was disorientating! I know you mentioned that "some" of the outside shots were in Spain but when youre talking about driving on "these roads in Oxfordshire" whilst we're seeing the car on the wrong side of the road was really confusing.😅 Of course the contributory factor and most confusing thing of all was that it was so very sunny in Oxfordshire! 😂🤯
    Good report other than that, as an ex bus driver the lack of rear windiw doesnt bother me. I leave our rvm at my wifes position in our Ioniq 38kWh premium, can't see a thing out of it, just use the side mirrors and the camera for reversing. I can flip on the camera whilst driving if I need to see more.

    (1) Tom mentions the Mercedes EQC as a rival, this would only be a second-hand rival since it has been withdrawn (replaced by EQE SUV).
    (2) This is indeed too wide for many types of British or Continental roads, at 2008mm (without mirrors) it is one inch wider than the maximum width for driving through the Rotherhithe Tunnel and you will not enjoy 6ft 6in width restriction post on many suburban side roads! It was designed for Chinese and American roads, so beware UK and Continental buyers. I should say that the same is true of some of the other large EVs (Kia EV9, BMW iX, Lotus Eletre, Zeekr 001 in the future).

    I have leather in my 12 year old Mercedes and it's like new. I don't think the plastic alternative lasts anywhere near so long and I assume it's all made from oil anyway which involves drilling etc so may not be a totally green alternative (maybe they just save a load of money but still charge a lot for it?). I don't know why people would even buy these cars, at least around my way. Most of the parking spaces are too small for these fat lumps. I watched someone park at my local coop yesterday in a BMW SUV I think it was, and he ended up with his wheel over the next bay line, got out, looked at it, shook his head and then walked off. Tbf it was a combo of bad parking, smallish space and big car, but I for one won't be buying one. I know that some people do need big cars, I'm not saying that they should be banned or anything. But when you look at modern kei cars or even cars like the honda jazz or a small mpv you realise just how poorly designed most of these suvs are. I would bet that over half of the people that buy them don't actually need them.

    For me, this is a missed opportunity. First and foremost, it looks great inside and out (apart from 1 bit) and differentiates it from a Volvo and the interface for the driver is brilliant. But I feel that it was rushed towards the end. The rear isnt great. If your going to ditch a rear screen, make it look like it never needed it. The camera location for the rear is just ugly, it could have been concealed in the badge especially with camera technology today. The cost is too high, competitior the Model Y, anyone laughing here? I think so and with that car you can look out the back and it has has 25% more rear cargo space. Beats the model Y in the looks department by miles. Also Tesla has the most efficient battery technology out there combined with extremely efficient motors. I'm not a Tesla fan boy for the inside and out but you have to give credit where it's due. Good luck to Polestar, they sold the 2 like crazy despite its ICE underpinnings and that was their first model. Lets see how the future goes for them.

    Camera rear view mirrors are totally useless for people who need glasses for reading, I wear Varifocals and use the mid range for reading the instruments that's totally natural as you automatically look through the correct area of the lens, however with the camera rear view you have to physically move your head up bring that lens area into play, so not only do you have to refocus but now you have to move your head. So I wont be buying any car that totally relies on this.

    • @modernschoolatlas
      @modernschoolatlas 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great point. I've got bi-focals where the bottom of the lens is focused for short distance (reading the instruments) and the upper part of the lens is for distance (seeing out), so again the only way I will be able to view that mirror is by tilting my head all the way back. Totally unacceptable. Polestar can scratch a large number of middle-aged potential buyers off their list.

  • @ootje7076
    @ootje7076 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Sorry but one of the reviewers remarks about the rearview mirror is just bonkers. The view is a little flat and you have to refocus when looking forward…. 😂🤯. Sorry but that’s also applicable on any mirror. A mirror is flat, no stereoscopic 3D view and it’s always closer than the outside. So why is this a remark for this system with a camera and not in any other review with a oldskool plain mirror?

    • @markh4903
      @markh4903 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No the reviewer is correct, mirrors work differently to an LCD screen. With a mirror the light comes from the objects so from a distance. With an LCD screen the light is coming from the flat screen. So your eyes have to focus closely to be able to see what's on the LCD screen which they don't with a mirror.

    • @ootje7076
      @ootje7076 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@markh4903 I'm sure it doesn't work that way. Your eyes perceive light (stereoscopic) and it's no difference for your eyes or your Brain if the light is emitted from a LCD-screen or is reflected from a (flat) mirror as focusing is concerned. You still have to focus on the rectangle and back through the windshield and soforth. The difference is that the LCD won't give you a parallax effect like a mirror does because the light will hit the mirror from a different angle as you wil move your head and a LCD display has a static representation of reality.

    Why would ANYONE buy a Chinese Polestar (any model) compared to a Peugeot, Citroën, BMW, Porsche or Tesla? Having driven a couple of Polestar, I find their interiors lacking in appeal or quality. I wouldn't be interested in anything Chinese until it proves to be brilliantly priced and there is nothing close to it for value. Until then, every single Chinese purchase is forcing someone in Europe or America out of a job.

      Interesting. I think the interior quality of the Polestar 2 is a real strong point. Absolutely rock solid, and nice feel to the materials. It is built in China using Chinese money but has a Scandinavian engineering and design team. A bit like JLR using Indian money to create a British car. I think we’ll find many European brands will go the same way over the next few decades so we’d better get used to it.

      Polestar is not Chinese. Polestar is Swedish. The parent company is Chinese, not the brand Polestar which is a Volvo offshoot and used to be the sports tuner for Volvo. It was started in 1996 as a Swedish racing company.

      @benjaminsmith2287 Here we go again Ben... a Saab were Swedish and never part of a bigger parent company...! Wake up and smell the coffee mate! Lotus, MG, Polestar.... the list goes on and on. Chinese cars, Chinese parts and Chinese owners. With a couple of foreign employees to make it look like something else.
      I have no issue with China. I lived and worked there for many years. However, I am not buying their products unless they offer some value for money and quality for the price. MG sells cheap nasty cars.... if I feel like buying a cheap nasty car then why not get an MG. They have a good warranty. But Polestar sells expensive, poor value for money BEVs.... No thank you! Lotus on the other hand, actually has good fit and finish. They just need to polish a few gremlins in the software and handling.

      Until the EU and US stop their protectionism Tariffs, we will never get the value for money the Chinese offer with their cars. Considering quite a few of the other brand models are built their, inc' Tesla, I find your comment about quality laughable!

      @S4MM7ify I find that, for a Chinese brand, Lotus shows what can be done. Quality fit and finish. OK, still has a few software gremlins..
      But definitely a quality interior.... heading towards Bentley standards! But I really struggled with Polestar interiors when some models are BMW priced and not BMW quality.... Strange coming from me as I've never been a BMW fan in the past. Genesis have similar prices to Polestar but better interiors. So quality is out there, it can be done. I do agree with you.... Polestars do not squeak and rattle. But then again neither does a Renault or Citroën BEV.
