- "Half Loop" brings us a whole new look at the cyclical life our characters live. As above so below, in far fewer ways than our heroes understand. There is a disconnect, and thanks to Petey, Mark is finally on the path to understand why Severance can be so bad for you. Irving meets Burt for the first time, and Ms. Casey shortly after. The Wellness Room seems to have more good than bad. Optics and Design may be targeting our Severed boys and girls, more than anyone else!

It's been wonderful to revisit the series through these vids. My speculation on the monitors
(1) The setup in the break room might be a crude version of the monitor technology used at MDR: a machine to excite emotions.
(2) The pinwheel shape of MDR desks: We don't see this arrangement elsewhere. Beams pointing out from each monitor would not interfere.
(3) Maybe MDR workers concentrate on numbers but are actually learning to process and balance correlated "fields" of emotion beamed from the display.
(4) Information compression is a unifying principle in human learning, perception, and cognition. "compression = intelligence" is a longstanding conversation in computer science
(5) Watertowers are everywhere. An emotion sensing or broadcasting network? I think we see emotions doing weird things on the outside too - like Mark's unprecedented malace at the protestors.
(6) My big guess is Lumon is building a new, panopticon-like system of surveillance and control where innies manage outies.
Couldn't wait for your ep2 so rewatched entire series after ep1... but still fresh enough to be worth watching. Keep it up.

I’m about midway through season 1 of MR Robot and have watched severance 3 times through and will be checking out all of Hax’s videos on it just like Westworld I hope it opens a new door (STS) to the show. I don’t think I would’ve enjoyed Westworld near as much as I did without Hax’s breakdowns. Thank you sir

This video is a pretty good example of severance, whereby a previous version of yourself wrote a script, and you read the script not knowing why or how you wrote it at the time, you're merely going through the motions, and it seems quite similar to how people have to learn how to walk, talk etc. after having a stroke for example.
I live 10-15 minutes from Bell Works so this show feels even eerier to me. I'm there about thrice a month (it's beautiful and family friendly) and have seen old cars and props and such when they were filming season 2.

All the Lumon branded products doesn't necessarily mean they also produce these for public consumption. They might just be for this Severed office complex, the way movies replace logos. For an innie seeing different brands might be confusing at best, if not outright undermining the cult-like office culture. Eveything is Lumon so it seems like Lumon is all that exists, the overwhelming presence of the logo is just like the pictures of Kier. their whole world is Lumon and nothing but Lumon.
Good catch about Helly's chip maybe not inserted correctly!! What do we know about the procedure really? Only what Lumon says. Who says the chip doesn't affect *more* than just memory? Maybe it mellows emotions (the way lobotomy was supposed to). Helly is the only one with violent outburts. Following certain cues might activate features (thats why Mark deviating from the script matters). And importantly, what if it affects *perception* and the data refiners screens don't show numbers, but thats what they see? One part of their brain sees the real image and responds with the appropriate emotion, but the innie par that is "awake" only comprehends it as numbers. This fits in with the questions of what is reality, what does existence mean, if reality gets filtered through your brain and is subjective
