    A victim of circumstances . Grandpa said: the seed company agronomist observed: Healthy corn plant, grain was matured at 15%, yield very good. The plant deterioration process began with the roots. Wet weather. The last wind put it down. A November nightmare. Thankful for great family help. It was finished!

    Congratulations on finishing up your Corn Harvest. I'm sure after fighting so much mud this year it is a relief to be done.

      @@aTrippyFarmer What reason do you run such small corn heads on such a powerful combine? Is it to move faster through the fields?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pickelsvonbrine the corn head only determines throughput if the crop does not have enough volume. The 8 row heads can keep a 780 full with our corn yields.

    You need to go to a janitorial supply store and get you a 5 gallon bucket of BH38. Squirt that on with a jug sprayer and mud just falls off with the power washer! Cool video......

      Everything thats painted and needs to be cleaned needs a "Griot's Garage" Foam Cannon and Soap, for a true "touchless wash" and you'll never have to touch it again.

  • @chrissyfrancis8952

    How do you plan how much of what you’ll plant for the next year’s crops? I’ve been dying to know, but so far, no one’s answered. Is it based on set contracts, then whatever’s extra you sell? Obviously, I’m not a farmer, have no clue…you can roll your eyes, I can’t see it.😉But really want to know. Love learning the logistics, esp now with fertilizer’s obscene cost, can you plant more legumes?

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be as simple or as complicated as you want it to be. We keep everything on a corn-soybean rotation. The next crop is always the opposite. This is the best way for us to raise row crops without incredible disease and insect pressure. We are relatively simple people. However, there are operations that look at the economics with a fined-tooth comb. They analyze futures prices, cost of production numbers, and other external factors to decide if they want to plant more of one certain crop, which typically is corn on corn, but I do see soybean on soybean occasionally. Corn and soybeans are our most profitable crops, so it is an easy choice to grow one of the two. Other areas might consider small grains, specialty produce, or even pastureland depending on the economics of the farm.

    • @chrissyfrancis8952
      @chrissyfrancis8952 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aTrippyFarmer thank you! I knew you’d explain it. I did know that you rotate crops & yes, this year many farmers planted corn on corn bc corn prices were high. So,you contract a certain % ahead of times then store & sell the rest when prices are high?

    May want to go to LSW tires. Traction is just as good, maybe even better than tracks. Also a lot easier to clean than tracks, and cheaper than tracks. LSW tires are more fuel efficient than tracks. Takes less horsepower to run LSW tires than tracks. As a heads up,.....those bogie wheels will probably start falling apart, and will cost big bucks to repair or replace them. LSW tires don't need no stinkin' bogie wheels.

    • @aTrippyFarmer
      @aTrippyFarmer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The horsepower is probably a big selling point. The tracks noticeably waste some power compared to tires. I have seen an increasing number of LSW tires on combines around here!
