If you went to school there, every fall Saturday afternoon brings back those wonderful memories of home football games. The music, memories of fall weather in Columbus, and excitement never leave you. (1988 graduate, Master's degree).
I live in and am from the UK and watching the ohio state marching band really makes me want to go! Being in a marching band myself I can say that Ohio is very impressive but you are missing 1 thing a real drum major who swings a 5ft mace if you don't know what I'm talking about please watch the Royal Marines marching band and you will understand but other than the thumbs up from across the pond can't wait to see more impressive videos :-)
+Ethan McCormack watch more of their field entrances. the "drum major" label is starting to die out over here in US, and its slowing moving its way up to a college level. OSU has one of the most intricate drum majors in the nation and I'm very proud to call this state and this band my home! I come from a tiny little town in nowhere ville southern ohio, but we have had more graduates march with them than any other band our size! T.B.D.B.I.T.L. has a meaning and always will!!
The American band style is very different if you want to see another great band from Ohio search the marching 110here Ohio university's band and yes there's a difference
One of the reasons you like TBDBITL (The Best Damn Band In The Land) may be that, unlike most marching bands here in the U.S., they're a *brass* band. And holy cats, is it competitive! My husband's daughter (she's only 9 years younger than I, so I feel like an idiot calling her "my stepdaughter!") played with TBDBITL for all but her freshman year. She didn't make the cut then, which is far from unusual. Once, she was selected to lead the Ramp Entrance, which is a *huge* deal. If it hadn't been for Lori, I don't think I would have seen the movie *Brassed Off*. Love that movie. And yeah, that 5-ft mace is something! Oh, and +thatoneguy10 is absolutely right. Ohio University's Marching 110 are an amazing band. Their style is quite different from OSU's, of course, since they have woodwinds. And *man*, can they rock out! Have you checked out any of OSU's game-day performances yet? The fans go bonzo when the band marches their classic Script Ohio formation in the pre-game show.
from someone who is just coming up to speed on these guys (because of one damn video I watched on a drum major because I watch drummer videos)......this band is fckn off the scale, the more you learn and watch the more jaw dropping it becomes and you can feel the pride, energy and passion that they infect everyone with.....respect from your northern neighbour and brother.
Richard Cox The sane thing happened to me a few weeks ago! Some video with drum major tryouts from 2016 or 17. Then a video of them singing the Navy Hymn - me being retired Navy - I’ve been hooked ever since. The blood, sweat, and tears these guys (and gals) put into these songs and performances is beyond astounding! They *are* the BDBITL! ⚓️⚓️❤️
I can'r think of another place on the face of the earth I would rather be than at the shoe on game day! If you have never been, lie cheat or steal but find a way to get there!
