THIS is why I love davinci resolve masters like you. Cause you share the knowledge for FREE. And you are sharing your content to us. I'm seeing a good man right here. And that is a BIG SUB to your YT channel and a BIG like.
I transitioned to Davinci Resolve thanks to Daniel Batal, a TH-camr I've been following since my Filmora days. However, it was Casey Faris who truly propelled my skills forward. His exceptional ability to break down even the most intricate details, often overlooked by seasoned professionals, has been invaluable for beginners like me. This meticulous approach, particularly in the realm of Davinci Resolve Fusion, has transformed what once seemed like a daunting beast into a tool I can confidently wield. It's clear that Casey possesses a unique teaching style that resonates with learners of all levels.
I have not watched this… but want to say God bless you as you’re sharing this… you are not too fast when teaching and it makes learning easy…. Don’t change. Thank you
something I use a lot when compositing in fusion that I think is useful in this project is the the exposure slider in the viewlut controls of the viewer, you can gain up your viewer to better see things for drawing masks or just understanding the shot without adding a brightness node, sometimes I will have one of my viewer be several stops overexposed just to see edges of windows or buildings in a dark shot and then my other viewer has the normally exposed image, to make correct compositing decisions..
This video was freakin awesome! I love that you show many of the trials that we can have with VFX compositing and tracking etc etc! more of this please!
This video tutorial is awesome. I love the invisible fx. When they don't notice, that's when you know you did a great job. Cheers for this, learned alot
There was a lot to take in, but it really improved my understanding of mattes and masks and how important it is to reuse nodes to save time and keep the effects consistent. Your enthusiasm makes learning this so much fun!
Fantastic deep dive. +1 on the capturing of camera grain! One thing I would have done to improve the backseat shot is removing the sunny part on the side panels. For me it really distracts from the action as it catches my eye while the viewer should be focused on the monster.
Brilliant. This is literally the first video on vfx I ever watched and I suspect I'll be spending many hours rewatching it and your other content. Thanks for making this.
Your short, project driven courses are what got me into this and now I am looking at your paid courses! Really amazing value you provide here free so I thought to myself that the paid courses must be REALLY amazing! 😃 excited to learn more!
Great stuff, Casey! +1 for more advanced tutorials. I would love a deep dive on the uses of fast noise and particle systems. Also 3d tracking: camera, object tracking.
Casey, I have been following you for sometime and I love your content, and humor :) And, I want to say these sort of videos and content that can be downloaded, is fantastic, being able to see and play with something is a game changer.
Great tutorial as always! It would be great if you decided to make a tutorial about particle simulation. Also, I think it would be awesome if you made a future tutorial about importing 3D objects from Blender into Davinci Resolve and integrating them into a real - life scene!!
Very nice workflow explanation. For the last shot with the mirror, I would have flipped the back seats image so the the “sunny (right) side” of the shot match the light on the monster that is coming from the left side. Also a bit of rain in the front windshield when it’s momentarily in focus before racking.
Not much to say but "Thank You Sir". As crystal clear an explanation as crystal clear (not to say invisible), yet detailed, a final effect. I'm looking forward to watching your next lessons and learning from them. Thanks again.
On the rear view mirror shot I really appreciated that you showed the tracking methods that didn't work first. It demonstrates good trouble shooting techniques.
I'm a pro, but this was gold. Several proficiencies jam packed into one. Practical learning is always best with these things. In most cases, good VFX is no noticeable VFX. But yeah, 15 minutes of extra effort to turn on a hose vs. 2 hours of VFX. 😏
That was great once more. Thank you for your time and effort. The only thing I would do is not to blur the mirror at 2:00:00 because the mirror never has depth of field. So I believe the mirror and the monster reflection should be at the same focus. Just saying. Thanks and waiting for the next tutorial.
This was a really great video, Just like all other videos that I've seen from you ! TQ for such great content 😃, Yes if possible make a video on Rotoscoping.
Setting the Magic Mask Mode to Better instead of faster, gives you much cleaner edges and much better hair cut out also! I find that it does a better job with holes also
This was explained in a way I can undertand. See I have a terminal neurological disease and your way of explaining helped me a lot. Thank you for making this and all your other videos. I'll be following you and be looking for your help while I do my first documentary. I have 2 docs out now. called Fighting MSA Austin Crawford's Story and Driven to Help. Would be amazing if you could watch the first film. Thank you again. Austin Crawford.
I'm about half finished, can we tag you and this video to show others just how much easier it is to follow along and adding some extra "Invisable" and see what you think of how it turns out. Thanks Casey.
Great video and information. We didn't get to see the whole scene, so did the "monster" walk up from the passenger side or drivers? If he is only seen in the mirror, then it doesn't really matter. If you see him on the road beforehand, then inside the car would need to be from the opposite (or mirrored) direction. Great job. I will play with this a lot. It will help me understand how Fusion works.
Great video, easily one of the best videos on fusion I've seen, but I can't help but wonder why not use stabilize instead of steady for your planar tracker, I'm pretty new to davinci resolve so I could just be missing something, would love to know the difference between both options
Thanks for sharing all of this information. Unfortunately after 86 attempts and nearly 4 hours, I have given up on getting the video downloads to actually download without the connection being reset.
I begin by saying Thanks! As I see the load of your informatic system appears as light I have a question: What is the composition of your PC or Mac in such a way I'll buy the same...? 🙆♀
Love the vids. They are “pretty sweet”! Amazing set of details to the rear view mirror shot. Except: images in mirrors have parallax! How would you address that detail? With a static shot the rear seats would be stuck in place in relation to the mirror, however you have the wobbly camera shake so the reflection image should be oppositely moving around, not stuck. It’s super good work, but the details sell, right?🤓
I'm really not trying to be disrespectful, but I did click on this because I swore I saw in the thumbnail it said Casey Farts, (not Faris) and that intrigued me. I thought, "Cool. I get to learn DaVinci effects, and be entertained."
in that first shot, wouldn't it make more sense to use the tracker to stabilize the shot, then composite everything static, then reapply planartransform to everything at the end before the mediaout? the same way we do with noise/grain when compositing CG (denoise source, composite then reapply source grain at end on everything). I find with shaky cam footage that can often give better result, and also simplifies the node tree with just one planar transform.
Yeah not a bad idea! The reason I usually do it this way is it degrades the footage to do the stabilize/restablize thing. Maybe it does just as much doing this way too. Idk.
Thanks Casey learnt heaps. In the scene where the girl stops the car and moves the gear shift, there is no rain on the windscreen (windshield). Just saying...details. Easily fixed by merging another mask to reveal the rain. Just sayin'. Look forward to your next movie.
19:42 i used the planar transform but mask was still moving for the last few seconds. how can i fix it? i tried to retrack but that didn't work. Can anyone help?

Yes I would like to see a video on making particles. Thank you Casey for a great tutorial!
More advanced stuff like this please! 🥺
I agree. This was awesome. This type of tutorial is for Fusion is really needed.
Yes please. How about Adding 3D characters in your scene with moving cameras?
100% agreed
This is definitely one of the absolute best videos about VFX on YT! Thanks a mil, Casey!
I have not watched this… but want to say God bless you as you’re sharing this… you are not too fast when teaching and it makes learning easy…. Don’t change. Thank you
Amazing stuff, Casey! ❤️

I said I'm not going to watch until the end, way too long, but finally I watched it all over and i did find it very interesting !
Fantastic deep dive.
+1 on the capturing of camera grain!

Wonderful Casey. Thanks and well done!!!!
just finished this 'lesson'. I've learned so much in it. Thank you SOOO much. :))
Took me all Saturday to watch this through, but I can think of few more enjoyable ways to spend the day. Thanks so much for all you do, Casey.
This was fun! I really got a lot out of it, broke the barriers in my head on how fusion works and fun doing it. Thanks
Brilliant. This is literally the first video on vfx I ever watched and I suspect I'll be spending many hours rewatching it and your other content. Thanks for making this.
I started using Fusion & Resolve because of your great videos like this. Thanks a lot.

Landscape artist of the year, here you come! It is so relaxing to watch people paint. Thank you for sharing. 😁👍
Great stuff, Casey! +1 for more advanced tutorials. I would love a deep dive on the uses of fast noise and particle systems. Also 3d tracking: camera, object tracking.
Please, this has been amazing, I would love to see more 3D/VFX and Davinci videos, maybe an update to the Blender/Davinci workflow?
Casey, I have been following you for sometime and I love your content, and humor :) And, I want to say these sort of videos and content that can be downloaded, is fantastic, being able to see and play with something is a game changer.

Lot and lots of learning in a single video, Thank u Casey!! Definitely Need video on particle system
I just found out when you own a davinci studio license it unlocks fusion studio . That's nice and it has more futures than the built in davinci fusion
Excellent!!
Thanks for sharing and for the test footage!
This was so good - thanks Casey
Thank You Casey. Wonderful stuff

wow i am so happy i found this channel
Neat video grain reducer saved me on a payed project like 15 years ago. But at that time I was using the Adobe After effects version. It's amazing.
Thank you! As a newer user to Fusion, this is amazingly helpful
Hey man i really love your videos thank you for you doing these very much appreciated.
Wooww this is amazing! I loved it!
This was a really great video, Just like all other videos that I've seen from you ! TQ for such great content 😃, Yes if possible make a video on Rotoscoping.
On the Casey Faris YT page, you can search keyword topics for videos. I believe there are some rotoscoping videos that will come up in that search.
Setting the Magic Mask Mode to Better instead of faster, gives you much cleaner edges and much better hair cut out also! I find that it does a better job with holes also
God vid using a hand full of nodes on a variety of similar composites. Keep some newspaper handy to avoid boot splatter Ol'boy.
you can btw click on the node you wanna preview and press 1 or 2 to get them in their respective windows
Wooow, thats pretty damm amazing!!!, you legend, Thanks heaps!
Thank you for this Casey ❤
This is a great crash course!

Loved it ❤❤
Why was it not raining on the front windscreen of the car 1:05:53
Great tutorial, Casey! Many thanks. Yes - a tutorial illustrating making your own grain from actual camera footage would be useful. Cheers!
this is delightful. absolutley love it.
Came for the comedy, ended up learning a few things along the way. Thanks again, Casey! :D
Now u are giving me motivation to make short films 😅
This is soooo good! Thank you so much!!! I learned a lot from this!
And please make a video about making particles it will be usefull for me.
Another Banger 🔥🔥
Thank you Casey, you are an inspiration!
Absolutely amazing
Thank you so much for sharing

fabulous stuff Casey, thanks.
More real-life examples for the actual usage of the nodes helps a lot!
Incredible stuff. I can't thank you enough
KEEP THIS SHIT UP MY DUDE!!! I learned Fusion basically in 2 weeks because of you!
J'ai cliqué sur la cloche mais il faut nous poster des tutos similaires car c'est le meilleur tutoriel sur Davinci resolve 🙂 شكرا حبيبي
This was so much fun! Thanks.
Thank you for sharing 🎉

Thanks. I laughed at “ELEMENTS OF INVISIBLE VFX, VFX, VFX” segments every time 😂
Such a great Thing!!!

Just watched the actual film post, it’s fixed there! Nice. Secret sauce? Tnx!
wish i could like this video more than once

Thanks
Please please do a particles video!

Thanks Casey, I'm just starting with Resolve just curious how long did it take you to become the master you are at this?
Thanks Casey learnt heaps. In the scene where the girl stops the car and moves the gear shift, there is no rain on the windscreen (windshield). Just saying...details. Easily fixed by merging another mask to reveal the rain. Just sayin'. Look forward to your next movie.
