    A friend of mine wasn’t in true foster care, but should have been because of the level of abuse (every kind) and neglect that she endured by both parents and her kinship placement. Apparently, CPS in our state has a policy to erase all files 3 years after a case has been been closed. By the time she was an adult and could ask to see her file to understand why she was kept in that home, they were long gone and she was so hurt that they would erase her history like that.
    Thank you for advocating to keep these files or at least see them. This clearly isn’t directly transferable to cases like hers, but having access to any sort of records is so important so those who have survived childhood abuse/neglect.
