- I bought this old digital camera for $10, and I think it looks like film. In todays video, I’m going to review the Olympus C-3000, and talk about why it reminds me so much of film. Old digital camera photography is a great way to express new creativity, and the right digicam can create some really interesting aesthetics.

As someone who upgraded my digital camera every 9 months in the early 2000's, I find the current digicam trend pretty funny. Back in the old days, people would argue about how many megapixels you needed to have the same resolution as 35mm film. If you want to try a really unique digital camera, pick up an Olympus E-10 or E-20. It used a split prism viewfinder so you could see through the lens, but without the mirror of an SLR. The raw files can still be opened in Adobe Raw / Lightroom.
Brother. The point of digicams is portability. I'm not gonna carry a big ass camera unless I'm taking advantage of the lens quality
I bought this camera when it came out for 750$. It was pretty good back in the days with a constant 2.8 aperture at all the zoom range. I gave it to my mother a few years ago. Still working fine!
You empathize what I'm feeling right now and brings back the old soul. I'm currently looking for old digital camera and can't wait to have fun with it, I'm glad I watched this :))
Just came across this vid, i have one these i bought way back when, been stuck in a drawer for years , last month stuck some batteries in it and it still worked so went for a walk with it, been out with it a few times since, like you say its so much fun
This is a great channel! Thinking of getting this! Thanks for this
Great shots! And yes, the memory card - called an MMC card - was common back then, so was Compact Flash. I was about to throw mine away but decided to hang on to it after watching your video. I was actually looking for a 2nd hand street cam with street cred. The other "old" digital camera I used back in 2001 was a Fujifilm Finepix 6800Z . Took excellent pics )of produce in Cameron Highlands (Malaysia).
Hey man, great video and great production quality :)
Looks like I'm going to be on the look-out for one of these. This looks super fun to shoot with!
Best is subjective. I think grain and soft pictures are awesome. Shooting several old ones now including my c4000 zoom.
Thank u for such a great video. Love your work.
I got a old sony dsc s85 and I love it. It has a fast lens f2.0-2.5 and takes great pics for 4.1mp
Really enjoyed this. Well done.
I have an array of retro digital cameras. I love the images they produce, their colour science etc. They're more fun to use thsn my DSLR or mirrorless cameras!
Great video. I still own my Olympus C 4000. Got to find the card now. KB
Another great video! My personal take is that the sweetspot is 5-7 MP camera's from 2004-2006, I feel they are a bit more capable. I've got many older Fuji Finepix and Panasonic LX camera's, but do like Olympus (C-770) straight out of camera. Love hoarding cheap digicams, having my eyes on a Olympus Camedia C-5500 at the moment.
Fun is so important and a big stress relief!
cool photos, you make me feel old though talking about this camera I was your age when it came out haha :)
Hello
I agree with you :-). I have a tiny collection of those older Digicams and it is a lot of fun making landscape photo walks with them. May favorites ons are the Panasonic Lumix LS3 and the Samsung ES15.
With greetings from lower Bavaria.
nice video! I have the C5050z and it's a bit quircky but the files that come out it, especially the TIFFs are incredible.
Yep...I still have the Olympus C5050z too...my first real expensive digital camera...
Just bought one this morning for $5 had no idea it doesn't use SD card. Searching for the correct media card now.
I shoot with an old 5€ cam that is more than 15 years old. The pictures have a distinct look. The lag of dynamic range and the grain are uniqe! Good video!
Cool video! I've never seen that camera before, it's probably a bit rare. However, I see it's got a CCD sensor, many old DSLRs have that too, and CF or SD storage, a bit higher resolution, and standard lenses, not 10$, but still cheap, for instance Pentax K10D, Nikon D40 or Konica Minolta D5/D7.
Hi! Do you use a smartmedia reader? If so, what brand do you use?
Wait until you get a Sigma dp Merrill with Foveon sensor into your hands.
You will be blown away by it's film like qualities, from how the camera itself is built to how sensor actually works.
Hey bro could you possibly do a video explaining the functions and the stuff in the menu mean and do?
great review
What did you use to record yourself ?
T brought one for $10 too, on sunday at the fleamarket oakland ca.
it looks like old digital.
Is that a good or bad thing? I just ordered one so I don’t know if I made a stupid purchase
It is
@@hit.the_north That doesn't answer anything... "Is it good or bad" - "yes"
@@Titanarchy i Just purchased mine, how was your experience?
I've had the C4000 for a few months now and it's a joy to use
It was a very expensive camera as it was new. And even the digital cameras that cost 5000€ today will cost only a tiny fraction of this in 20 years.
But yes it is fun to shoot with old cameras if you do not have to deliver a specific resolution. I still love shooting my GH2 or my Sigma Merrills…
Great video
I have this exact camera, where can I find the card reader?
Good video tho. Helped justify my purchase
It's cool, I like it, I may get one and I don't want to detract from your video, but I reckon you can actually get better shots on film than on that.
Just got one on eBay!
Where can I get the adaptor
Small sensor compacts like this are awesome but 6mp is the lowest you should go if you ever print
I printed off it back in the day when I bought it and ive just printed off it now, like a painting you dont look too close at a photo print
could you do a 100$ recommendation for a digital camera
Anyone know where to buy the specific card reader?
Yes! Sometimes you don't need to spend any money if your parents have an old digital cameras laying around, but even so, spending $20 on a digital camera is nothing compared to film cameras lol. And they really do capture some stunning pictures with so much character!
I don't know. You can get a Praktica fairly cheap
Are these raw shots?
I have the same camera but my computer cant read the smartmedia card even though I have a specific reader for it. If anyone can point me in the right direction of how to transfer the photos from the Olympus camera to my computer I would be so very thankful.
One word. Fujifilm X-E1.
Me too my friend
I have this camera and i dont know how to transfer the photos to my computer 😂
Can anyone show me a reader for this camera?
i hate expensive stuff . it is after all a box of electronics will will at some point dies . you get get epic images using a very affordable cheap camera
Thought he was gonna ask if I knew my Lord and savior.
...but... is it fun?
I have the C4000, and yes it is very fun lol
in germany its not just 10 dollars haha more like 30 40€
Hmm yeah I don’t see the film look just looks still looks digital
You’re young af
Lmao guy didn’t even show a single picture taken with this in the video.
Eh? He shows several images from the camera. For example, at 3:04
@@skevosmavros yeah, 3 photos for 10 secs, in 5:04 video. nice. thanks.
@@4Sandrix More images would have been better, but your initial claim was that he "didn't even show a single picture", but there are images at:
0:34
0:59
3:04
(yes, I scrubbed through the video looking for them - the things I do to procrastinate never cease to amaze me). If you press pause on each image and stare at it for 30 seconds, that will increase their runtime and make you happy. 😀👍
@@skevosmavros Do you know that being technically right 90% of the time does not actually make you right but just shows how limited your IQ is? Just curious if you ever thought about that? If not, it's never too late to start.
@@4Sandrix A better response would have been along the lines of "Oops, my bad, I was wrong, he did show a few images. I also agree with you that more images would have been better". See? Not so hard.
Or you could disparage the IQ of the person who spotted your mistake. Your call.
🙄
Digital image look the same. Analog film cameras & lenses has a distinct personality.
Digital camera images definitely *don't* all look the same.
It's already a bit of a cliche to buy a $10 digital compact camera... yawnnn.... move on. Next trend
And who gives a single crap if it's cliche? Are you really doing this shit just to be popular and don't want to look bad? Makes 0 sense.
Go touch some grass
Want. Its just the memory card that throws me off, like finding what pc takes that floppy disk 💾
Hey man, great video and great production quality :)
