    I've seen a lot of people REALLY overcomplicate this stove. You made a perfect little stove, and perfectly easy to make! Thanks for the video mate!

    Looking forward to your vid on camp with home made gear. Using gear we made ourselves was how we did it back in the 50'S. Everything we did was just using what we made or re-purposed. I still do it today. Much cheaper and usually as good or better than store bought.

    You should put together. A complete ! DIY survival kit. Made from just ( RECYCLED ) materials. Showing how people can make a Bushcraft Survival KIT. And I mean the knife pack the stove. Everything. That way people SEE THAT THERES NO NEED TO BUY THERE GEAR. Just need some imagination.
    This would be a good series of videos. I think it would be a BIG HIT !
    BUT YOU GOT TO MAKE IT ALL ! . . . BUT YOU GET A LOT OF SUBSCRIBERS THEN. Then take out the kit & show people that can survive with it. That would be a whole another series. That would be ongoing. HOW ABOUT IT ?

    I have made several of these and have increased the size to a tuna can and a small sweetcorn can. The principal is the same, the burn is the same but the tuna can gives a little more stability.

    I made a larger version using a nut can instead of a cat food xan and a soup can instead of a tomato paste can, first use was during a power outage when I cooked my dinner on it while sitting on my deck

      Nah, this stove is what "Los Gringos" call "Fancy Feast" stove - named after de cat can food used as "fuel tank", the pot support is the same tomato past can. For the wick they use Carbon Felt mat used by welders, available in every Walmart.

    As far as stoves go the best and most reliable one i've ever had is a trangia, bought it back in the 90..if not late 80s..and it still works as well. Until you run out of meths, but even for a 3/4 nighter it ain't an issue for me taking enough meths. Weighs nowt and packs away into it's own pans, what more could you want?
    But a little burner stove like this is so simple and it works. And it costs nowt...nice.

    All you did was to make a Fancy fest ( Cat food can ) stove. As far as finding a stove for emergency use when on the trial and your breaks down. Find a empty can about the size of a standard Tuna Fish can. Pour alcohol in it ( after you clean it ) and you have a stove. A pot holder for it can be as simple as three metal tent steaks.

    Meth we call methanol in the United States. The hole must be for ventilation? Could the inside can be shorter as long as it is taller than the outside can?

    • @kokopelau6954
      @kokopelau6954 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to trangia I believe 1 in to 1 and 1/4 in the absolute best and the burn videos I've seen agree with that you can boil water in about 3 to 4 minutes with the cat can stove the higher you are off the flame the longer it takes, and the closer you are to the bottom can the more smoke you get

  • @ruthlward3240
    @ruthlward3240 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would of suggested that you wear gloves while packing in that insulation.

    • @kokopelau6954
      @kokopelau6954 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need gloves, just use carbon felt. You can buy it at Walmart as a welder's mat

  • @johnlisoski7658
    @johnlisoski7658 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't the methanol absorb into the insulation? Doesn't the insulation burn?

    • @greencraft4783
      @greencraft4783  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No it doesn't, just the fuel burns.

  • @thomasmusso1147
    @thomasmusso1147 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for that 👍. Have made a couple of these myself.
    Used inside an IKEA Hobo Stove or a folding Bushbox LF .. makes for a very stable Pot Stand / Support (especially when the Pot (such as a 'requisitioned' and suitably modified SS Tea Caddy) fits down inside the Wood Burners). One then also has the Wood Burner alternative as Plan B/A.
    With the IKEA Hobo Stove, Tea Caddy Pot, this Cat Can Stove, some Tent Pegs / Modified Meat Skewers / SS Bicycle Spokes to act as adjustable Pot Height Supports and a piece of Tin Can cut 180° vertically, holes drilled therein to suit and placed inside the IKEA (as an adjustable wind screen) .. quite a neat, compact little set to take out here.
    Your idea for an Outing using only Home-Made Gear 👍. Please do .. am looking forward to it 😊.
    Take care ..

    Instead of buying the food product cans you can buy an alcohol stove from a store for the same price.....

    • @greencraft4783
      @greencraft4783  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I bought the food....not the cans, they are a waste item (trash) that most would throw away, that is the point

    • @kokopelau6954
      @kokopelau6954 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      From my point of view the cost of the stove was zero. The cans were trash the scissors they already had on hand and the insulation was trash. No money out of pocket. If you want to spend money buy carbon felt instead of using insulation.
