    I had the pleasure of meeting Arthur in the early 70s. He was a true genius. The man
    was the greatest exercise genius that ever lived. it is staggering that his machines
    and principles have mostly fallen away. It is almost like discovering the car and losing
    that knowledge and going back to the horse and buggy.

    I've come to realize that the barbell squat is NOT the magical exercise that it's been made out to be and as AJ correctly pointed out very dangerous! A leg press is a squat make no mistake because the action at the knees/hips/ankles is exactly the same the primary difference being the location of the load. So the question is, why place a loaded barbell across the back/shoulders when the objective is to train the thighs?!

    Idk if Arthur was right about saying the people who say you have to train specific ways for certain results/things are wrong.
    When I just trained one way and would play a specific sport, I could tell I needed to modify my training for my sport. For example, I did weight training for baseball but it didn’t help with fast movements, so I had to do agility training for those faster movements and I had to even throw in plyometrics so I didn’t have ligament/tendon issues.

      I think what he meant was more along the lines of suggesting certain exercises right off the bat, such as exercises powerlifters do. It is a dangerous sport, like any, but more so physically damaging to oneself solely. Personally, I think he wanted coaches or other people to train with more decisiveness and common sense.. I do appreciate you sharing personal experience, it does make me think about it from both sides

    His methods worked for bodybuilding and building muscle. It is a hard workout. However, his methods are not going to bill athletes. You will not see one football team do this workout. But the man was a genius

    • @STGStrengthandPower
      @STGStrengthandPower  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is untrue. His methods were implemented by many teams over decades. Starting with the Dolphins in the 70's, the Redskins and Bengals in the 80's and most recently with Dan Riley and Mark Asanovich's teams.

    • @jonklein7130
      @jonklein7130 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am talking about now. Look at weight rooms of colleges and pros. They are doing free weights lifting on their feet. Look at special forces. No machines. They are doing body weight or free weight. They need to be strong, have strong stabilizing muscles, and be athletes. Nautilus is not for that. That being said, you could gain a lot of muscles by following Arthur Jones techniques.

    • @STGStrengthandPower
      @STGStrengthandPower  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @jonklein7130 again this is untrue. I was given a tour of the Steelers weight room right before covid and they utilize lots of machines. The bills just bought a gluteator and plantaris from Dynavec and the last HIT conferences I attended the strength coaches from the vikings was there. Also what stabilizer muscles do you think get worked better with free weights or calisthenics over machines?

    • @jonklein7130
      @jonklein7130 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@STGStrengthandPower certainly you are not saying machines work stabilizing muscles. They are on plain movements. You are sitting. The machine does the work. You are not on your feet. Free weights and kettlebell exercises work your core. They are full body movements. I am not saying Arthur Jones methods do not build muscles for bodybuilding, but I am it is not near as functional as free weights, body weight or kettlebells.

    • @STGStrengthandPower
      @STGStrengthandPower  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @jonklein7130 one of the main "Stabilizer" muscles in a bench press is the lats. If you wish to use a free weight over a machine or make yourself less stable on purposes to activate it then go ahead. However better and safer results will come from training the lats directly in a stable biomechanically correct fashion.
