Life of F1 LIFT Trainee in the UK

- ✨LIFT is Longitudinal Integrated Foundation Training in short, which was piloted in North West in August 2016. Instead of having 6 x 4-month training placements, one of which would have been GP placement in FY2, LIFT trainees have 6 x 4-month clinical training placements but spend 2-days per week at designated GP practice throughout the 2-year training. The GP supervising the trainee will be the Educational Supervisor for the whole two years of training.’ The LIFT aims to produce Foundation School graduates who are more rounded, patient centred doctors, who will have more practical knowledge of care pathways to support the future NHS.
There are many people who could help if you would like to know further about LIFT training such as:
• Training Programme Directors (TPDs) - there are a few of these in each trust responsible for the Foundation Programme and in our experience, they are extremely helpful in escalating and solving issues
• Department Head of Service (for your current job)
• Rota coordinators, their admin support staff and their supervisors
• Guardian of Safe Working (great help for problems with hours, leave, getting GP days in)
• Foundation programme administrators and support staff
• Department of medical education (a team within each trust)
• Freedom to Speak Up Guardians - to raise issues anonymously
• Central LIFT team
• LIFT Trainee Representatives!

Hi Abigail! Couldn't help but notice a fellow Malaysian here too :) I'm Jie Fei, a med student in Scotland. Was wondering if you are applying to the LIFT programme in sheffield? I'm a bit undecided about whether to apply so if you have any insight would love to know more!

Yes, I am applying to the LIFT program in Sheffield even though my aim is to join core surgical training eventually.
It suits my needs as I prefer a bigger city so that my fiancé can find a job easier than small rural areas.
I did go through the rotations in the excel sheet and it fits my choice. Personally, I must do a rotation of medicine, surgery and obs and gyne so that I am well rounded in the event life ever sends me to a rural place. Imagine not knowing how to deliver a baby in a kampung.
Plus, both the FY1 and FY2 are based in Sheffield. I dont want to move or even drive more than 45 minutes to another hospital in my FY2.

@@amgpilot9290 I didn't specifically applied for LIFT, it was part of foundation training. It's worth checking where LIFT trainees mostly work so that you could put that deaneries as your first choice and mention that you want to do LIFT
Hi Priya, how did are you assigned a GP for the LIFT programme? Can you guarantee that it will be close to your hospital?
Hello, I actually applied for foundation training but somehow gotten into Lift training - I was not given a choice to choose. GP place can vary but most of the time it's placed near. Mine is located around 45min via train
