I noticed while going through Dublin Airport a quote from former British Prime Minister Tony Blair when he made a formal apology on behalf of the British Government regarding the famine. What I didnt see was one apologizing for the decades of sexual abuse inflicted on Irish Children by the Church and State. Maybe they should put a poster like that up there too for all their victims.
so sorry - may you all find peace and happiness and justice in your future lives. no words can describe how so many Irish people feel today. Your all so brave.
Their voices need to be heard. Such brave and strong people. Ireland needs to do something substantial to recognise the injustice done to them and to all the children who have suffered.
Same here, it turned her into a narcissist that only gave birth to me to punish me. But it brings closure listening to these videos, as I now realise where she learnt to do some of the things that were done to me.
I'm so sorry for all the people that were abused by nuns or priests. They may have got off lightly here, but when they have to face God and his justice, it'll be a different story.
Sheila I spent 14 years in industrial schools with first the nuns and then the brothers. Harsh times. God did not intervene to save me because he doesn't exist
Reading about the Magdalene Laundries, and the abuse of Irish children in Industrial schools where they were used for slave labour reminds me of the epidemic of sexual abuse that happened in Canada's native residential schools. Priests and nuns ran those hellholes too. They beat and raped the native kids, often for speaking in their native languages. The stated aim of these concentration camps for children, which ALL native children were required to attend, far from their families, was to "kill the Indian in the child." The nuns and priests tortured the children for years. The result was that three generations of First Nations families became dysfunctional. Even now, entire native communities wrestle with mental health and substance abuse issues directly related to the abuse they suffered at the hands of "Holy Mother Church." Canada's First Nations peoples are living with the consequences of the family separation, beatings and rape to this very day. This is just one of the reasons I can't bring myself to go to mass anymore.
Karen Coleman, journalist & renowned Irish Broadcaster of 106 'The Wide Angle', has recently written a book called "Haunting Cries". It chronicles the lives of 11 survivors of institutional abuse. The stories are incredibly harrowing. Karen has done a brilliant job capturing the ordinary voices of the most defenceless and voiceless of Irish society. I thoroughly recommend it to those who want to gain some significant insight into life in industrial schools in the past. It's so very unputdownable
@Naomiandre11 when the entire Church, including the highest leadership is either involved or knows about the most heinous abuse of children, YES THE ENTIRE CHURCH IS RESPONSIBLE

@dabuzebruvaz What was said on here is only part of how Nuns treated children. I was with them for the first eighteen years of my life having been born with Spina Bifida (a disabled child).
I found out this yr my GGGram was interned to Kuper Island & survived to be the oldest Native to die on Vancouver Island in 1931 at 104. She was married to my Grandfather Captain James Douglas Warren who opened up the Trade Routes for the HBC around Vancouver Island to the Haida Gwaii. I grew up Metis Coast Salish Penaluket lucky with my white no during the 60's scoop in Port Alberni with the last two Chief's Judith Sayers, Les Sam's & many boarded out student's. And was told about the Priest's, Nun, & Black Pete the Boilerman & baby's being thrown in. This is 🇨🇦 Canada shameful past & TRUTH & RECONCILIATION is the only way not Trudeau who goes across Canada for a holiday on a Day he called says how the Government & Crown still diss First People & we are the GGGranchildren they didn't kill.
To Ms phthisicy, Abuse goes on everywhere. Ireland is NOT exclusive. The Boys of St. Vincent's highlighted abuse by christian brothers of young boys and this was based in the. U.S. I suggest that perhaps you should view this sometime.
While evil does hide everywhere, we only invite it to become stronger by inventing higher ground for which it might hide from the flood waters known as common sense and human decency. For me it's simply common sense that when people do such deplorable and horrible things to people (especially children) they should be punished no matter who they are. But we invent so many ways these people can protect themselves, we create systems in which they can hide, and we wonder how they get away with it.
People have always used religion as a pretense to abuse others.Sometimes I feel like we are better off without religion. If only we could try being more humane,we could change the world.
We've had the same thing happen here, and we've spoken out about it. If you don't believe me then just look up Priest Sex Abuse Scandal in America. Sinead was booed for different reasons, mainly to do with her political stances. Americans tend to be far more conservative than Europeans. And as far as not criticizing Ireland goes, do Americans really have the right to lecture your country on its internal matters?
It's atrocious but I'm pretty sure there will be no monument or standing apology of any kind. That would be going too far for the conservative politicians holding power right now.
Very sad. My heart goes out to all victims of abuse. Very sad that certain horrible "holy people" have given religion a bad rep. I wish people would give Catholicism a chance, realizing that these horrible people are NOT behaving how JESUS would want them to, and are not following what the Church wants either. God is LOVE and love does not hurt others and abuse children. Shame that so many people associated with God's own Church have turned against Him and hurt others in His name
@c0ncerta I dont need to find anything out "one day" Ive found out now. Ive been through enough to know Gods real thankyou. When you meet him, you shall found out. And you sure as heck cannot say no one told you, cause plenty people did. And I'm not the idiotic one here.
Easy for you to say my friend. Do you have even the slightest idea of what these people went through? When they first spoke out people rather believed that a piece of tasteless bread was literally the body of a human who may have existed 2000 years ago than believe the truth about these horrendous crimes. Rather naive and misguided to say the least wouldn't you say? But feel free to believe what you want, just don't expect me to take it seriously.
I am well aware, that people take religion and it is a man made creation most of the time. Humans use God as a way of achieving their own will, not the Lords. But I dont believe in religion. I believe in God.
What in the love and honour of Jaysus type of country were we living in. Where was anybody to put a stop to this. A free reign was given to those who would ill treat children for their sadistic pleasure. A shameful chapter in the biography of of this Island of ours. Nothing to be proud of whatsoever! 😢
God bless your soul. I honestly truly dont know what youve been through that makes you doubt Gods existence but thats NOT my problem, take it up with God if you like. And I can clearly see I have more intelligence then you.
Hello Karen Coleman, why are you as an experiences journalist putting the video camera in a position where we can hardly see the woman being interviewed behind the moving head of a man in the foreground? If this subject is as important to you as you say it is, you should have made the woman justice and placed the camera near her so that we could see her, right? Your videos looks like videos from a 3rd generation analogue edit. Why, Karen are you giving us this miserable quality? Thank you.
It was 10 years ago. In a radio studio. Not a film studio like in rte. The video was also about the man on the left Michael o brien who also suffered victim abuse. Also the man in the foreground.. It was recorded for radio. Not tv.
This is why institutions of any type should be open to inspections by independent agencies. I am so sorry for the innocent children.

It is years of this type of denial that allow things like this to still happen.
this is the reason i am not apart of the roman catholic church
Their voices need to be heard. Such brave and strong people. Ireland needs to do something substantial to recognise the injustice done to them and to all the children who have suffered.
Nothing in the world will give them peace. At least give them some comfort that the molestors will be punished severely for thier crimes......
It makes sense why my mother and I had no relationship... She was dropped here...
Same here, it turned her into a narcissist that only gave birth to me to punish me. But it brings closure listening to these videos, as I now realise where she learnt to do some of the things that were done to me.

Where were these children's parents ?
in my case they were dead
Gardai and the courts ordered these people to the homes. Parents could do nothing, if they tried. They were basically jailed

They presented to the world they were doing a service when the reality is the had child labour & the brutality & taking children out of there hands
That's an extremely broad generalization.

I feel sick listening to this. Religion corrupts. If you believe in god then fine but religion? Not a good idea.
People who didn't even noticed the name of TH-camr

They would be classed as Nunces in the UK.

@Aidan8086 they already know they will not enter heaven so make sure no one else enters heaven by filling the children with hate and fear.

Its such a cop out to blame religion when theres bad in all they know their abuse isnt right its heartless and power mad!
Never heard the saying ' Good people will do good things , bad people will do bad things , it takes religion for good people to do bad things ' .
