    Varosha (Greek: Βαρώσια [locally [vaˈɾoʃa]]; Turkish: Maraş or Kapalı Maraş[2][3]) is an abandoned southern quarter of the Cypriot city of Famagusta. Prior to the Turkish- Greec conflict of Cyprus in 1974, it was the modern tourist area of the city. Its inhabitants fled during the conflict, when it came under Turkish control, and it has remained abandoned and under the occupation of the Turkish Armed Forces ever since. As of 2018, the quarter continues to be uninhabited and is described as a ghost town. Entry is forbidden to the public.

    You destroyed half the island. You took a whole city, Varosia, kicked out the inhabitants of this town by force, and you talk about rescue?? Have you noticed there are no doors or windows on any of the hotels??? What happened to them?? Who took them??? The rescuers????? You really have a chick to say that they came in a peace mission. And don`t use EOKA as an excuse. You had TMT and terrorists on your side. As for Enosis, Makarios said many times that Enosis is not possible and it cannot happen under the present circumstances. Don`t try to justify an act of aggression, looting, and barbarism. Turkey is still here. Varosia is still closed. WHY.....?????

      Elias, that Has happened to Cyprus by Turkey is incomprehensible.
      As in my previous reply , Turkey as a nation you should be utterly ashamed & shame also on the international community for allowing this to occur..... but long with this blame we must also add the International community for allowing it to occur & even 44 years later for not putting the pressure on turkey to withdraw.

      @@askannav2094 The real shame is what the Greeks did, they were the real aggressors here and there should be no denying this.

      @@higherprojections, OK I'd be happy for you to explain your comment. Yes the Greeks ( Greece) was aggressive in trying to assassinate the elected Cypriot President Makarios & replace him with there Junta puppet Sampson, but this was over in a few days.
      What Turkey has done to Cyprus, as witnessed in the destruction, occupation & changing of the demographics of Cyprus, is not to the benefit of any Cypriot citizen.
      So yes i would like to hear, your opinion.

    At minute 3.58 there is clearly people (Lots) enjoying themselves on the beach which is in the no go zone... Nice to see the Turkish military enjoying themselves using property that doesn't belong to them...

    Turkey has made the 1974 July Intervention on the basis of London and Zurich Agreements since it is a guaranteur country like Greece and the UK. Because the above-mentioned countries have restrained to act together with Turkey in 1974, Turkey has made this legal intervention as Archbishop Makarios explained at the UN Security Council meeting after he left Cyprus. As a result of the legal intervention, the lives of innocent people regardless of their ethnic and national origin have been saved. Please remember the civil war after Bloody-handed Nicos Sampson coup de'ta rebel against the official President makarios, and killing and butchering so many Greek and Greek Cypriots each other.

      I dont know a single person who can translate 'intervention' the butchering of innocent people and the illegal occupation of the country. Stop ignoring the facts and realise and accept that your country has been ethnic-cleansing minorities the last 600-700 years and is responsible for at least four genocides. This is history written, it is not science fiction and 'intervention' , we are talking about hundreds/thousands of human lives !

    What happened 45-50 years before is called "past". The people should focus on the future for a solution. Otherwise both sides keep on blaming each other.
    - It was your mistake...
    - No, your fault!! And etc...
    My point of view is the problem of Varosha will be solved in less than 8-9 years. I am not saying that it is going to be fair, but it will be solved inşallah. Cyprus is a good island, I've seen it so many times alone and with my family(Turkish Republic Northern Cyprus of course) And I saw Varosha as well. The south is growing-developing and so does the north side. I believe that in the near future it will be solved. With my respects...

    Let me clear it for some people. Greek Cypriots killed thousands of Turkish Cypriot and British people for Hellenism(Enosis). Turkey not occupied, Turkey rescued. Get some knowledge and search EOKA and enosis.

      You are a brainwashed dump
      Turkish cypriots are in a state of being like North Korea.
      Completely abandoned, isolated and unrecognised.
      This is what Turkey gave to its people on this island.
      If they took half of Cyprus for good, they would take advantage of what existed and develope it further instead of letting everything being destroyed by time, like bombed Syrian cities
      But no, all you wanted was to get your hands filthy with Greek blood once again

    • @olskoolbandito
      @olskoolbandito 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haluk Özyılmaz let me be clear ..the majority. Of the population voted for enosis in the 1930s...its called democracy..(which Turkey obviously is not..)..EOKA fought against the British for independence...TMT (who were Turkish fascist wanting PARTION of the island) killed many Turkish Cypriots and blamed it on the Greek Cypriots to incite hatred and reprisals....yes, EOKA B ..were right wing and killed both Greek and Turkish Cypriots who didn't accept Enosis..many GC did not agree with EOKA B....under Guarantor powers Turkey did indeed have a right to intervene and restore the Republic of Cyprus constitution after the coup from right wing Generals from Greece overthrew Makarios in 1974...Turkey DID NOT have the right to ethnically cleanse the North of the island from the Greek Cypriots...nor murder or rape woman and young girls...and the partition the island..its the Turkish version of "ENOSIS" which the Turks faught against..(hypocrisy at its absolute best..)..and then Occupy 38% of the island...GET YOUR HISTORY RIGHT BEFORE COMMENTING...
      Turkey is s thuggish nation...they don't care about the Turkish Cypriots...if she did care she would have stepped to resolve the Cyprus problem years ago..(and don't quote me the pro Turkish Annan plan...GC would never accept this US ..UK..Turkish devised plan...)

    • @metehanturkyilmaz5707
      @metehanturkyilmaz5707 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haluk Özyılmaz , From my point of view, in the near future(probably less than 9 years) the problem of Varosha will be solved. Fair or not it is going to be solved. By the way it is not a good idea recording Varosha from the air. It is a kind of military zone for UN and Turkish Army...

    • @olskoolbandito
      @olskoolbandito 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Frstly it's only amilitary base due to a invasion by Turkey...North (invaded part of Cyprus)..will always be at stalemate until the TC (not the illegal settlers brought in by Turkey...war crime in itself) stand up to Turkey...and demand a solution that involves demilitarization of the island...not an air base for Turkey....Turkey cares not for the TC....gas and oil have suddenly changed things on the island....USA and Israel have interests...
